if u want to beat top asian you have to play like a perfect robot or do very smart tricks (JO-W style). Truls is capable of it but comparing to JOW, Truls is often too monotonous (e.g. chop-block as opening). many sets Truls only missed few lucky points to finish the job (e.g. against Lin he could win 3/0 if he was lucky enough). I hope he can find smart balance in his play later.

Give Truls a break; he’s actually playing very well. Xiang Peng and Lin Shidong are some of the biggest names in junior Chinese table tennis right now. Xiang Peng is also getting away with first degree murder during service as well.
I think Truls is doing a very good job. He has to get used to the conditions and him going there is a step in the right direction. I think he didn't go there expecting to destroy the chinese, he is there to learn. He does indeed have to become more consistent, learning from the chinese is the best thing he can do.
Xiang Peng's serve is on the edge of being illegal. the ball is very close to his chest. But Xiang Peng wasn't hiding the ball, instead, he was hiding his racket behind his body. When he serve, he turns suddenly and his racket shows up right before the contact. Truls should be able to see the contact at the last moment from his angel. He just didn't have enough time to judge the spin and speed.😅
you can't capture really really well if the ball isn't hiding because the fps of the camera aren't enough. One "trick" to know if someone is serving illegal in pro is watching if the other player made big mistakes in the reception, you can see xu xin vs yoshimura, timo boll vs yoshimura, and others. A pro can't confuse topspin with backspin and vice versa, one thing is missing 1 reception, but 3, 4, 5, 10 times it's clearly that the player is serving illegal :D

Heck he uses the exact same serve in all of the different international tournaments I've seen him play and it's never been a problem to the opposing players and the umpires. Xiang Peng though doesn't get as much exposure to international play compared to Truls so I can't say I've seen a lpt of his games. In this game particularly though, his serve looks to be illegal.
yinhe produces verry good rubbers and they are very cheap. if you are a new player you can buy yinher mercury 2, because it's slow but spinny, if you are an advanced player you should buy like moon version or moon speed
I can't tell for sure, but I feel like most of XP serves are illegal. Seems like it's common in China as WCQ does the same (it's rarer for him but he still consciously does it). Hope there'll be a rule tackling this issue someday, either allowing it, or making it completely illegal and sanctioned every time.
Truls Must learn to make an attack block and not return the ball to the opposing player but to the other free side! He must train the mind to do it at the speed of the battle. This is the best way for him to have winners points !!!🤛👍
This happens in my table tennis club often someone figure it out your weakness es and spreads them out. Neither you work on them or everyone it’s gonna be beating you by attacking your flaws.

Pero es muy carente de demasiadas cosas tospin, no sabe responder saques, etc. Es un jugador que si sobresale pero a la hora de la hora no da realmente.

I watched some of his serves in the 1st and 3rd set picture by picture and Peng was clearly hiding the ball.
