This scene is actually hilarious lol. The restaurant scene is genius, they switch seats, they catch the audience off guard (given that they don't show the earlier scene in the yankee stadium with the real steinbrenner) - then when they switch seats, Elaine starts wailing her arms around and talking real fast like steinbrenner does while the real steinbrenner seats there in silence. They should've used this!

I wish they had shown it orginally, but I can also see that although the real Steinbrenner did a good job, his energy wasn't as comedic - but the parodox is still there. And that final restaurant scene... Funny as Hell!
While I can completely understand why the Steinbrenner scenes were never used (I get that he wasn't an actor, and comedy is all about timing), what saddens me is the fact that, as a result of not using "The Boss's" scenes, one of Laney's greatest performances on the show (that final scene is gold, Jerry, GOLD!), never saw the light of day as well. This was actually a deleted scene from Seinfeld when George Costanza was working with the New York Yankees. Larry David was not pleased with the real Steinbrenner's performance in this scene compared to his own interpretation of him that he's used to doing that he had to cut it. Nonetheless, still a good piece of Seinfeld history.
@@whompronnie I never bought Larry David's explanation. Buck Showalter was way worse than Steinbrenner and they used his clip. It's forgotten now, but at the time, there was some talk that George may have violated confidentiality by blabbing details of his appearance on the nationally syndicated "The Fabulous Sports Babe" radio show before the episode aired. If true, that would be a reason why they cut him, because if artistic considerations were the key, JL-D's rant alone would have justified keeping George in.
