    This might be the best explanation of lights, lumens, distance, etc... I've seen. So many people try to talk about wattage which you know has nothing to do with anything except the amount of energy the bulb uses, not what it produces. The best part is you put it all in simple English for everyone to understand.

    I have watched quite of few videos about lights for seed starting. Yours was simple and right to the point. I actually get a lot more out of it than the others. It was a lot less technical , easier to understand. Thanks for the information

    As everyone else has said your video is by far the best on this! I think the coverage and speed at which they grow with LED is deffinately the way to go for me. Thank you so much! :)

    Here in Ontario Canada, I have to go to the next city to get the warm fluorescent Tobe t8 light bulb, so I don't think I have a choice but to go with LED. Thanks for the video!

    • @DorothyStainbrook
      @DorothyStainbrook  2 года назад

      Yes, and the warm and cool fluorescent shop lights that I used to use are harder and harder to find. I actually think the plants themselves liked the fluorescent lights better than the LED but they aren’t as energy efficient for sure.

      You are so welcome! I use a timer also….it really helps doesn’t it? If you leave the lights on all the time without letting them rest a bit, they don’t really like it and turn yellow.

      I also grow heirlooms and I grow seedlings in 2 different rooms. In one room I have an old T-12 system which I have 1 grow bulb which is pink/red. Because the lighting doesnt cover the whole tray although Ive grown seedlings ok, Im still considering dthe LED system.

    I live in Costa Rica, I have a bad back so no longer do I garden outside. I have 12 LED Barrina single grow lights coming plus seeds I can't get here. I will be setting up in a spare room to grow vegitables. You have given me more information on getting seedlings started than any other site I have seen. Thank you for your help. I will also go to your web site and learn more.

    If you think about it the cost of LED's is definitely less than standard bulbs especially considering they grow plants faster. Faster growth = less amount of time the lights need to be used. So, how did they work out for you? I use T5 bulbs in my lights.

    • @DorothyStainbrook
      @DorothyStainbrook  Год назад +1

      They worked out well. I had to adjust the height so they weren’t as close to the plants however. They seemed to be a little harsh on the tender seedlings when they were close.

      This is my first stab at using them, so I don’t have a lot of background knowledge like that. I just picked some up at Walmart in an attempt to do a comparison to my old shoplights. The only real thing I know about costs is the LED take less energy, they last much longer and they cost me $18 and change at the store which wasn’t much more than my old shoplights.

    I would love to get the very same light system, but sadly have checked and not even one WM out of 6 in my area has it. I ended up going with a wraparound. Not what I wanted but will give it a try.

    • @DorothyStainbrook
      @DorothyStainbrook  5 месяцев назад

      Yes, the videos on youtube stay on forever, and so many of them are going to be pretty old. I think I bought mine 4-5 years ago and I haven't checked prices since then. Hopefully your wraparound will bring you success!

    Light is made by God and is a Science. Good job. I would add that the intensity of light, or lumens is also based on the size of space you are in, the area. You did mention that.

  • @yes350yes

    Ive seen this light shown on multiple vids on you tube sad thing is the vids are 2-3 yrs old and can no longer find them, although these vids keep running as if they did. In my area in the mid-west the same light cant be found and for that price. I tried at 6 different outlets. WM dont have this options here.

    Since my old flourecsernt system went out and you cant find replacements for it , I had to go to the same unit you show here . I for one hate the change in light sysems being that many of my tomato seedlings under the lights turning yellow. Guessing I had the light too close and for too long.

      Yes, I agree. The fluorescent lights were much better and easier on the plants. It helps to turn the lights off and give them a little less time under the lights.
