3:33 instead of rebooting and stuff, you could also just create a new virtual desktop with win+tab and move the task manager over to it and do whatever you need to do.
Quick tip for all of you people out there with apps/games that freeze frequently; I suggest you always keep a notepad open with unsaved changes. This way, when you press Ctrl + Alt + Delete, you can select restart and it will close the program, but then give you tells you you have unsaved changes in Notepad, at which time you can click cancel and the program will have been closed and you didn't have to shut down your pc. I hope this helps some of you guys as it did me. :D
Great tips! Especially the toggle for "This PC" view option in Explorer. So, thank you for that. Another area in Windows 10 that everyone reading this may want to examine immediately, is your "Manage your credentials" panel, in User Accounts. Especially if you are concerned about a recently odd, or suspicious, behavior in your file permissions. For example, like suddenly not being able to escalate a file permission level to admin, so you can make a change. Click on Start, scroll down and click on "Windows System" folder, click on "Control Panel", click on "User Accounts", click on "Credential Manager", then "Windows Credentials." By default (when Windows 10 is newly installed), all three of these credential areas are empty. You should see "No Windows credentials", "No certificates", and "No generic credentials", for each type. If you DO see added credentials listed here, especially under generic, your system has likely been accessed, and compromised via a remote network session (from the Internet). Imo, any generic credentials should be deleted immediately. Windows and Certificates should be investigated, and deemed valid before deletion. But its likely they are shady as well.
Thanks for the great tips, I used about 7 of them. I've always been annoyed by not having a full path or even File Extensions appearing in Explorer and it's also comforting to get Command Prompt back. Well Done!
This video is a life saver. Whenever I'm looking for something recently downloaded in the recent folder or when looking for something by is specific name nothing ever comes up! Now I can find files easily. Who would of thought Windows by default would not search for files on your computer in the search options.
For all non- english users out there using english language but non- english keyboard: Go to Time & Language > Language > Keyboard > Language bar options > Change Key Sequence, and change both options to not assigned. This will prevent you from accidentally switching your keyboard language to english(since the english keyboard often lacks certain keys). You can still switch language by using the taskbar.
Regarding the power options being switched to "High Performance," that can sometimes cause CPUs to always run at their boost clocks rather than adjusting clock speed and voltage to the CPU load. I'm not sure about newer GPUs, but I've seen it happen on my GTX 1060 as well.
Thanks ThioJoe! I graduated from IT School as Network Manager and my old school tries to remove my Microsoft Office I paid for at the school (full price) Because of your video’s they can’t try anything no more. I’m saved! 😁
heres a helpful tip, sometimes the always on top feature doesn't always work, when that happens you can hold *win + tab* * New Desktop* then when you done hold *ctrl + win + right arrow/left arrow*
I love the multiple copy and paste tip, I use copy and past at least 100 times each day at work. Now I will "paste" as much, and reduce the "copy" by about 75%
Thank you for the "always on top" setting in the task manager. I'm a gamer and sometimes my games freeze up, and the only thing I can do is hit the power button and dive for the mouse and click cancel before the computer turns off.
The always on top setting in the task manager is useful. However, there are other ways: 1.) Control+alt+delete may work and select the task manager and it may minimise the full screen app that's crashing. Then end the task in the task manager. 2.) Close instances of the task manager on your main desktop and then click the windows key+tab and you can create a new desktop where you can launch the task manager and close the misbehaving application. Then by holding win+tab you can end the second desktop instance. 3.) Get a second screen, move the task manager onto it and when it launches it should be on that screen( I hear the cry of: why it is forcing all background apps behind the failing app). 4.)You can still select the task manager with alt+tab and if you've set the names filter. You can use the "Down arrow" and press "delete" which will end the process. However, you are shooting in the dark. If you press the alt+ tab and hold "alt" down after the active processes window shows up you can see where you highlighted with the arrows(I think it resets when trying to see through this method). So, you'll hit it eventually. Good luck and hope this helps someone 🤙
Fantastic guide, I actually not only followed these suggestions, but also wrote them down in a text file so I could quickly enable everything in case of fresh Windows install!
My tip: I use a lot of different currency symbols on a laptop with no right-hand number pad (so I can't use alt+number to enter symbols) Use the Windows+V multiple clipboard to pin a small list of currency symbols This means they are always there, even after rebooting, so you can paste them in whenever you need them
Hey TheoJoe..I noticed that your vids come in so much clearer than other vids on RUclips..I'm watching in 720p60 but for some reason your vids in particular always play so crisp..Is this something you did or..?
@@SwastikSwarupDas Actually it is much more simpler than that. For every single videos that being uploaded to RUclips (as of this comment in December 2019) The RUclips server will attempt to "Re-Encode" it to their own Algorithm, and they use VP8, VP9, in some few cases still using H264, AAC, Opus, Vorbis. Even if this doesn't make sense to you, The Encoder will attempt to Analyze every-single-pixels color in every single frame depending on how high the FPS was uploaded. Now, with VP8 and VP9, it has the algorithm which can simplify how the "Colors" are being stored, delivered, and viewed. To make it simple, if you constantly using a "Still Camera" recording yourself talking, the only pixels that constantly "Working" are your face, like in this video, while the Background, the room, the wall, assuming all has constant Lighting, the Pixels of that area are "FROZEN" so RUclips server can save up more Storage data. That's what makes videos like this looking "Crisp" Because the Pixels are borrowing the Neighboring bitrate to make it crystal clear. Of course all my explanation here doesn't apply to videos with constantly moving colors/cameras
Good stuff. I'm on my Chromebook right now, but I've bookmarked it for the next time I'm on my Windows machine! Liked and saved to watch (again) later.
WARNING! On power settings you said to enable maximum performance. i'd say that thats not what you should do if you care about your systems lifespam... if your cpu works at 100% even when not needed etc at desktop idling or something, you allow the cpu to run at full speed etc 5.0 ghz speed meaning it uses more volt. increasing the volt increases the temp of your cpu. which decreases your cpus life. so that setting should only be changed if you are gaming or want your pc to run at full speed for some specific reason.
Quick Access can actually be super convenient for recent files if you’re constantly importing/exporting files in creative applications. I used to hate it until recently!
Here are some tips for you Windows+Shift+S allows you to take a screenshot of all or part of your screen by drawing a shape around what you wanna screenshot. This will copy it to the clipboard, great if you wanna Ctrl+V the image to someone in an email, discord, or anywhere else that allows sending photos. Combine this with the "Clipboard history" Option and you can pin as many pictures as you want. This will allow you to effectively have a little gallery where you can send pictures from anywhere, to anywhere. Windows+D shows desktop, press again to re-open the minimized windows Windows+C opens cortana Windows+E is a personal favorite; this opens the file manager. Another favorite is Windows+I (i); this opens settings Windows+A opens your action center AKA the notification panel Windows+L instantly locks the PC Windows+W opens a little prompt in the bottom right. From there you can either do a fullscreen snip or open MS Whiteboard. Windows+Q // Windows+S opens search *CTRL+Z WORKS* in more situations than you might think. Ever accidentally erase a bunch of text on a youtube comment? Ctrl+Z has your back Get quick with key combinations. One of my favorites is "Ctrl+A, Ctrl+X" to instantly delete and copy all the text in what i'm writing so i can write something else, send it, then continue writing what i was. Thanks for this, was really helpful, applied some settings from your video However, the power plan setting is a bit different for AMD Ryzen processors, Ryzen 3rd gen uses custom power plans becuase the processor can switch very quickly between loads in 1-2ms, the standard High-performance plan has a response time of 15ms, even custom plans are available for 3rd gen Ryzen
Something Thio forgot to mention is that when Microsoft releases a major update, they reset things and you may have to go back into these settings to change them back again. You can usually spot these major updates when your Windows 10 Wallpaper resets to the default Background when you first got computer.
Oh thiojoe you are the best in tech and you always know more. You have inspired me to create my own RUclips channel. King Sharif Tech. I will always learn from you
You can also add Quick Access commends to the top bar by right clicking on items in the ribbon. I've added Properties, New Folder, Command Prompt (Admin), Powershell (admin). Can also start apps at the current path by type in the navigation/path bar: cmd for Command Line, powershell and wt for the new Windows Terminal.
You can configure, through the power settings, your computer to shut off automatically when you press the power button. This is handy when dealing with a browser hijacker that makes it impossible to click out of the browser or get to your start button. Just press your power button and it does a normal shutdown. A normal shutdown will properly close your browser and any other program running and resets everything upon startup. Doing a hard reboot just makes everything go back to where it was before you hard booted it. You go around in circles.
@3:33 Actually, there's a workaround to this issue. You can press [Win] + [Tab] and even if the (e.g.) game fullscreen hangs it will still allow You to perform this action. What to Do if You Don’t See the Ultimate Performance Plan On some systems, you might not see the Ultimate Performance plan in your settings app. If you don’t, you can add it with a quick Command Prompt or PowerShell command. The command is the same for either shell, so use whichever one you want. You’ll need to open the Command Prompt or PowerShell with administrative privileges. For Command Prompt, hit Start, type “cmd” into the search box, right-click the Command Prompt result, and choose “Run As Administrator.” For PowerShell, hit Windows+X and choose the “Windows PowerShell (Admin) option.” At the prompt, type (or copy and paste) the following command and then hit Enter: powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61

I personally changed touchpad settings , with 3 fingers up or down I can changing volume , its soo useful, you know you dont need use FN+ up down , you need 2 hands for it , but with touchpad 3 fingers you can change volume ,just with 1 hand .
In [Task manager > Performance] you can double click the little graphs on the left to make task manager small. Combine that with the "always show on top" option and leave it in a corner of the screen :)
The Power Scheme options tip need to come with a warning that the CPU turbo boost will possibly be always on when set to "High Performance" or "Ultimate Performance". "Ultimate Performance" is available by default under Windows 10 Workstation but is hidden on other versions, you need to open a command prompt (or power shell) as Administrator and type "powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61" to show it. It is also supposed to minimise micro-latancy issues when activated..
Powershell is objectively better. Honestly you owe it to yourself to take a class if you don’t understand why. I do get that some are not familiar enough to want to learn, but I think those are the people would benefit most from learning. Great video though!
Hi Thio, big question. I use an ultra book and did not get any warning when system goes off because of less battery. It does shutdown without warning before. In earlier windows version does exist this feature. Can you help?
These videos are great. I use windows Vista and 7. Being pretty savvy with those programs, but we bought a laptop for my wife and of course it had Windows 10. I was lost. Its not even easy to system restore that I need to do for her. Anyway I just found out the 10 sends all you keystrokes to Microsoft. Not that it makes any difference to her I still think its privacy issue. Well as luck will have I was watch this this morning at 5.30 am you told us how to disable it. As soon as I get off here I will fix her computer if I need to. Thank you so much.
Is there a way to set these settings using (local) group policy? I don't know if these settings are reset with updates. Defining a (local) group policy allows me to reset all these settings with one command (I think). Thanks.
Thanks Mr. Joe for always helping us, is it possible to upgrade your laptop's graphics card, mine is intel HD graphics 3000 but i want to upgrade it to 4000.
Joe, can you tell me how change edge to my default browser? And, is there a way to get on this video on a piece of paper or some way I can see what you tell us to do and be able to see you ,at the same time. And, I don't know how to make my computer faster, Im afraid if I try this I will mess it up .big time
Fun fact, if you rename 'This PC' to anything else from the desktop (I haven't tried it in other places) the system will rename every reference to update with the name you have set. Essentially you can still have the 'My Computer' instead of 'This PC'
I made some of these changes and since then, the "search this PC" function in the the file upload and file explorer window has been completely screwed up.
You don't have to force restart your computer when not being able to exiting a frozen full screen application. You can simply create a new desktop with the inbuilt windows feature and open the task manager on the new desktop to close the application.

It is also supposed to minimise micro-latancy issues when activated..
worth to do on high perfomance ? is bad for the PC ? i just dont want Loud and hight TEMP pc
@@COSMOS335 - well, your CPU will not throttle down so more heat = higher fan speed = increased noise.
Powershell is objectively better. Honestly you owe it to yourself to take a class if you don’t understand why. I do get that some are not familiar enough to want to learn, but I think those are the people would benefit most from learning. Great video though!
cool video tech talk joe
Alternatively you can press Ctrl + Win + d to open a new desktop to then close a broken game (for example) with task maneger.
Hi Thio, big question. I use an ultra book and did not get any warning when system goes off because of less battery. It does shutdown without warning before. In earlier windows version does exist this feature. Can you help?
always helpful thanks for your effort
Thanks again JOE helpful
as i'm a dum user learning
thank you for these two videos...
You can also just type CMD and hit enter in PowerShell to change to CMD and then powershell to go back.
Well done with both videos!
Thank you for your videos! They are tons of help
Thanks a lot Joe. Saved many future pains. Awesome video
What a great video !!! solved many of my problems
Love you videos there are always educative
Good job TJ!
Is there a way to set these settings using (local) group policy? I don't know if these settings are reset with updates. Defining a (local) group policy allows me to reset all these settings with one command (I think). Thanks.
All well & good, but will it triple my internet speed (for free) ??
Thanks Mr. Joe for always helping us, is it possible to upgrade your laptop's graphics card, mine is intel HD graphics 3000 but i want to upgrade it to 4000.
Three videos I’ve watched already 👊

Joe Africa would be so confusing
Fun fact, if you rename 'This PC' to anything else from the desktop (I haven't tried it in other places) the system will rename every reference to update with the name you have set.
Essentially you can still have the 'My Computer' instead of 'This PC'
Wow, Explorer opening to Quick Access has infuriated me for years, and I've been right past that setting without noticing it. Thanks!
That Task Manager setting is a life saver. Especially in GTA V when it crashes.
I made some of these changes and since then, the "search this PC" function in the the file upload and file explorer window has been completely screwed up.
Very good. Thanks a bazillion.
You don't have to force restart your computer when not being able to exiting a frozen full screen application. You can simply create a new desktop with the inbuilt windows feature and open the task manager on the new desktop to close the application.
ThioJoe... thanks again... U hve really educated me on windows, and I hve a feeling ur not done yet...
I use Ditto for my clipboard as it has way more features such as editing and grouping clips. And it's free.
Thanks for telling the Tricks
Thank you very much for your tutorial. Kind regards
What about the exploit protection in the App and Browser control? Thinking face emoji
