I am the proud owner of a BDA .45 from 1978. Perhaps the most interesting factoid about these unique pistols is that one was used by Don Johnson in the pilot of Miami Vice- they must have found enough Bren Ten magazines in time for the second episode.
I think they were talking about the company. JM Browning designed the 1911 for Colt. The Browning Firearms company, which was formed after JM Browning's death, was essentially an importer for (for the most part) FN Herstal.
Didn't mention yet the other BDA, the Hi Power derived BDA. When I started getting into guns these guns were still being sold. I always thought these BDAs looked better, were more logical and more useful, than their Hi Power predecessor :)
