Nice instructional video. Is there a different source to plug the black wire into other than directly to the battery so the trailer is only getting power when the accessory or ignition is on? My fear would be running the battery down if a trailer with a running fridge is connected for a long time without the vehicle running. Thanks!
If you are running anything inside a trailer, you will just need to unplug the vehicle from the trailer. This will only allow the accessories to run off of the trailer battery. www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/etrailer/ETBC7.html
@@edwardbrown561 If I were to do it all over again I wouldn't tap in under the dash. I installed a Redarc Tow Pro Elite and I could have installed the controller in the back where the Toyota trailer wiring is and only run the controller cable up to the dash through the grommet under the driver's side floorpan. I'd then run one power line from the battery through a breaker to the controller. Tapping into the brake wire under the dash is a pain, and with the Redarc controller it's not really necessary (I know now).
You will need to connect the reverse light wire to a wire that is activated when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. This wire can be found under the driver's side dash panel. The best way to find it would be to use a light tester and test the wires while shifting into reverse. www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Draw-Tite/40376.html www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/etrailer/ETBC7.html
You will need to test the wires in the pigtail harness in order to find the correct brake signal to then slice the brake signal wire to for your brake controller. We recommend using a circuit tester to do so. www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Draw-Tite/40376.html www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/etrailer/ETBC7.html

which wire is the brake signal wire ? Have a 2016 highlander and there are 2 thick green wires......
This didn’t help at all! You didn’t show the hard parts! Fishing thru the engine bay and getting the brake light switch unplugged.

It would be possible to run a heavy duty relay for when the cab is hot but you'd have to know a bit about your Toyota to know where to get that source
What was the color of the wire of the pigtail that u found 🤔
On my 2019 Highlander V6 LE AWD there were 7 wires. 1 was thicker than the others and was colored green. That was the brake light signal.
@@distractedmonkeydesign thanks a lot
@Charles Bechtel thank you, it's hard to test when plugged in lol, let's see if my 2wd 19 is the same. Thank you!

Wheres the best place to connect to the reverse wire? Seems everyone skips it. I would like to use it

Would this work on a 2020+ gen 4 Highlander? Does it interfere electronically with Toyota safety sense?
