    Excellent presentation. I really like that your not trying to come across as a bench rest shooter, or PRS or even a hunter, just a bloke laying on his guts hitting stuff he can barely see for no reason other than his own enjoyment, your gear selection and setups reflect that. You actually made a really good point and have actually helped me make a decision about my next scope purchase. Thanks guys

    Hi Mark, UK shooter here. Your knowledge is phenomenal and I value your opinions. Based off your videos I’ll be investing in a NF scope to mount on the 6.5creedmoor. Keep up the awesome work. Hands down the most informative and non biased RUclips shooting platform.

      MarkandSam AfterWork anytime guys. Have you ever considered running shooting breaks to Australia? Us British shooters can only dream of shooting beyond 1200yards.

      Well, not our property and very happy that we get to use for us, but not suited to more than that, so not something we could do where we are, but who knows in the future, Cheers and all the best.

    I love the Nightforce 12-42x56. Windage and elevation repeat and return, spot on every single time. Aim point never changes with magnification or parallax adjustments. 23 years and still hasn’t shaken it’s guts loose. It’s out lived 3 barrels. I have no idea what the new ones are like.

    Thank you Mark great video , I have been experimenting with the Athlon range of scopes for F class up to 900 yards for a couple of matches and have found the Argos 8-34x56 an extremely reliable unit the glass is very clear for the price around $1100 perfect tracking and the settings are repeatable every time , I will be giving try in competition year it will be interesting to see how it performs

    Great videos. As a relatively newbie to HV shooting here in the UK, I am learning a lot from you both so please keep them coming. I wish we had the distances you are shooting at, but the most I have found here is 1200yards/1100metres. Thanks again.

    Very well said, sir. Excellent video!You nailed it on the head with the general trend towards more and more mag and that atmospheric conditions become the limit. Most of the elite military sniper systems that are setting world records well over 2,500yds are using something in the 5-25x range. If more mag was of any benefit you can bet they’d have more. Let us also not forget that GySgt. Hathcock used an 8x Unertl to set a record 2,500yd KIA back in ‘67. 40x can be helpful if you want to measure your groups on paper at 100yds but that’s about the only range and application where such mag makes sense. My, (ahem), “long range” rifle is a .223 Rem 700 with a 1:9”. Factory 75gr match loads can only take me about 800-1000yd max (the farthest I can shoot in the wooded part of New England I’m in) so anything more than my Leupold 3-9x wouldn't benefit me. Most of my rifles are used for hunting so I try to make sure I have a low end mag no higher than 4x, preferably 2x or 3x for the low end with a high end between 9x to 12x so I can shoot long-ish ranges when I am able to. Many hunters “over scope” and put a 6-20x on a deer rifle but such a scope is useless for shots less than 100 yards. But this is all an entirely different rifle/scope application: not ELR.
    It sounds like you’ve researched extensively and made very informed optics choices. And I would certainly hope any reputable company would give you a little support kick-back for the high praise and extensive press you’ve given them. Doesn’t taint your credibility on the matter at all with me and it also shows Nightforce’s dedication and loyalty. Thanks for the talk. Cheers.

    Mark I want to thank you for putting quality honest info out for people. If I'd have discovered your channel sooner id have saved a fortune. I have 5 sightron siii's 6-24-50. Moa 2 sfp, and absolutely love them, for 680$ on some websites it's a steal. Sightron installed zero stops for me on all of them for 150$ each. I have 1 atacr and love it. Keep the good info coming. Cheers! As a thank you for honest reviews and shared knowledge I contributed to your channel.

    I love my NF scope! Mine was made in Australia. Started reading about them in Precision Shooting magazine. One of my shooting mentors is Keith Highfield of Sydney. He’s in the Australian Benchrest Hall of fame. I have been to Australia and fell in love with your country. I’m from Montana and we are into long range shooting here though most of us frown on shooting game at extreme range. I really enjoy your videos.

    I have never shot with the nf attacker but I have looked through a buddies and adjusted around on it. Well that scope has ruined me for buying anything else😁. I fell in love with NF after that. The Attacker is a masterpiece of what a scope should be. Flawless turrets, nice glass , and it's durable. That buddy of mine put that on his custom 50bmg and it is rock solid and would suit any magnum rifle. And I agree, less magnification is more. I think that getting that wider fov is essential to reading how the flight path is behaving. And I know that I am commenting on an older upload. I couldn't resist 😂. Great video!

    I can see a similar system to mirrorless cameras. They are now good enough for photography so I'm sure it would be enough for shooting. The optic and screen can then be separate and not have to be inline.

    Mark you might look at the Revic PMR 428 Smart Rifle Scope. It doesn't have as much elevation as you were mentioning but it has some of the others such as a HUD. An interesting read about future possibilities in optics at any rate.

    Living in Alabama my ELR is basically 500 yds it’s hard with mountainous terrain and tree heavy terrain to find many places where 500 yds is even possible.....what are your scope preferences for up to 500 yds.....brand wise and reticle wise

    • @markandsamafterwork
      @markandsamafterwork  6 лет назад +2

      There are many choices, and FFP would be fine for that distance, so your biggest problem is so many to choose from, Cheers

    • @bretlawson3983
      @bretlawson3983 6 лет назад

      What part of Bama are you in? I am in the Muscle Shoals area and can easily find 1000 to 1500 yards. Find some farmers, help them out when you can and good shooting spots open up in the spring and fall.

    • @astang1072
      @astang1072 6 лет назад

      For 600 yards or less, any quality 2-7 or 3-9 will get you there. 4-12 is probably the most I’d want. Unless you’re trying to print a ragged hole at 400, higher mag won’t help any. Like Mark said, you have far too many good options. Probably can’t get a bad one.

    Hey,
    I'm hunting and I will be more often in the alps (austria) where long range shots are needed.
    For that reason, could you do a video about triggercontrol and flinching?
    Would be great to see how you deal with it and how you train.
    Greetings from germany

    • @markandsamafterwork
      @markandsamafterwork  6 лет назад +2

      Thanks man, I will have to put some thought into that for a video, main fix is trigger time and use a calibre the you are comfortable with, (bigger is not better when it comes to a flinch), Cheers

    • @Hilla085
      @Hilla085 6 лет назад

      MarkandSam AfterWork thanks for answering. I guess that would be a great video, since you work very detailed on everything.
      Hunting large game on distance requires a fast and powerful projectile to make sure everything you hit is dead before it can hear the shot. Thats my main approach when it comes to shooting animals.
      I'm shooting 300win mag, .257 wby mag, 7mm rem mag, 375h&h.
      Everything without mbrake...
      I consider myself as a good shooter :), but there is always room for a tiny flinch after some time on the range... i do train to get rid of it e.g. Dryfire at home, but it would be great to here something from someone who i consider as professional.
      Questions for the upcoming video that might be intereseting (for me):
      What do mean by trigger time?
      Where to put your fingertip on the trigger?
      How to get consistant?
      Training tips on how to avoid/get rid of flinching?
      Sightcontrol?
      Thanks and best regards

    • @markandsamafterwork
      @markandsamafterwork  6 лет назад +4

      Thanks Man, I will keep all that in mind, for you without a brake on hunting weight rifles, you want to at least have descent but pads on those rifles. But I will use that to help construct a video on this subject, Cheers

    Just found your channel, great stuff mate! I am considering getting my first rifle and getting into elr. Heard you talk in another video about picking a caliber that allows you to learn to make adjustments. I am on a budget and can get a package deal on a howa 1500 in a grs berserker for a good price. Seeing as I need alot of rounds downrange to learn from scratch, price plays a role here aswell. Was thinking about getting the rifle in a 223. I would like in time to be able to reach out at 1km. Do you have any thoughts? Keep the great content coming!

    Display elev/windage adjustments 'inside' the scope. Don't need any knobs on the outside.
    Press the 'up arrow' and the scope responds. 'Windage' arrow and the scope responds.
    You won't have to pull off the target to make changes.
    Interesting.
    Somebody's gonna come out with it pretty quick.

    Hey mark was just watching this video again some gold here. I was actually looking at the sightron s3 6-24 myself as like you found in my research it ticks all the boxes for a lot cheaper than the atacr. Just wondering how you found the glass quality for ELR? I know in this video you said that the glass just has to be clear enough to do the job and it's not bird watching etc. how did you find the sightron s3 in general for ELR and Did you upgrade to the atacr mainly for the extra elevation or did the sightron have issues? Thanks mark

    Hensoldt carries each of their model in Ffp and 2fp. For some reason the 2FPs have more elevation and field of view than FFP. Do you know a reason for that? (I have their 4-16x56 in ffp. The 2FPs 3-12x56 has 40 mrad and the 4-16x56 has 30 mrad. Then it goes down to 20 mrad for their more powerful scopes. mws-reps.com/documents/2012HensoldtProducts.pdf )

      Lots going on with scope engineering, not always obvious why they do what they do, but not uncommon for low power scopes to have more adjustment, there is simply more room when using less power. Cheers

    Whats your thoughts on barrel length Mark? Looking at a 20" 223 1/9 twist. Want to use it for target shooting as well as vermin control using 68grain + bullets. Don't want to loose too much velocity for the target shooting side, It will be fitted with a moderator also. Cheers

      Hi, well it would work for both. but IMO you have too much of a compromise to build a rifle to do both jobs, although the two rifles set ups can do the other job, a good target rifle is not right for hunting and a good hunting rifle is not as good for target work, Cheers
