  • In search of a way to get more people into outdoor swimming, I gathered a few friends to try out the Finnish sauna tradition of steam, cool, repeat at The Saltwater Sauna on Sandbanks Beach. Some are outdoor swimmers, some aren't but we took to it with gusto! We sizzled, chatted, glowed and swam in the sea. What a fantastic experience! #bluemind #wellbeing #outdoorswimming
    I booked a 65-minute session www.thesaltwat... so we could have a chance to relax and get the whole experience. Thank you to Kristy, Cloe, Beth and Ade for joining me.

    There's nothing better than a sauna with direct access to the sea or a lake. I've been to saunas frequently since my childhood and I've always loved getting really hot and then walk out into the cold air, breathe and then cool down with cold water or snow. But the one time I had the opportunity to cool down by sea swimming was the best by far. And that is a lovely little sauna with a superb view through the window: it would look like a painting, if people weren't moving.
    What struck me as odd though, is that you were all wearing swim wear in the sauna. Where I'm from you go in naked or wrapped in a towel (hamam towels are probably best). The heat in the sauna ruins the fabric of swim suits in the long run. You should also be careful with watches for the same reason.

    • @EverydayAthleteRach
      @EverydayAthleteRach  Год назад +1

      The rules on this sauna are that swimwear is required. That os fairly normal in the UK. I can see that the heat would affect the fabric and watches too. My gopro certainly didn't like it in there - it overheated and switched off, came back to life after cooling off though! I really enjoyed hte experience and I'll be looking out for other opportunities in the future.

    Hi Rachel how are you? That looks like fun and a good laugh. Were you all totally barefoot due to it being a 'regular' beach or because with booties you wouldn't have felt the full effects of sauna than beach? It's a shame really Ade's shorts matched one of the other lady's cossies as I loved how you were otherwise all wearing a different colour cossie. Symbolic to me of how the best teams/clubs are those where everyone is their own individual with a common interest or aim! You all seem so close knit which warmed my heart this Vs Day ♥️

    WoW… this looks like such a treat!! I’ve done saunas before, but they usually leave me feeling dizzy and a bit drained. I think the fluctuating temperatures of 🔥& 🧊 would feel amazing. I also thought that the view of the beach from inside the sauna was very aesthetically pleasing, and I think it would make me feel quite relaxed. This would definitely be something I would frequently do with my friends if I had the opportunity to do so. Thanks for sharing this great experience with us Rachel. Ⓜary❄
