About 4 or 5 years ago, my friend and I played this game online. I think we were the only 2 people online, because we were in a public domain where anyone can join us... but no one else showed up. So we decided to play the campaign coop on Elite just as a 2-man team. Hardest game ever. We beat the first level after numerous tries, which was pure luck the 1 time we beat it because somehow the enemies next to the hostage room started to die on their own (suicide?). Quickly we seized the opportunity and without planning I threw the flashbang in and my friend just happened to run in at the right time through the other door and took out the guys in the hostage room. After the mission we joked that it was the mummies' curse that killed the guys next to the hostage room and gave us the win. We never beat mission 2. I think it's impossible with only 2 players. Sometimes they would kill the hostages before we even entered the ship even if we took out the guys outside quietly. We would just be moving quietly no where near the hostage room, when suddenly we hear 4 shotgun blasts followed by "mission failure, the hostages were killed". We would joke that the hostages said something annoying to their captors and got themselves shot. The times when we actually rescued the hostages, the tangos would blow up the ship. Since it was just 2 of us, we could not snipe the detonator-holding tango outside without getting the hostages killed, and we could not take out the detonator guy after rescuing the hostages. These enemies too. Give them a pistol and they can snipe you from across the map on elite. Great game though.
For me the online experience was as follows. Entering room. "Are you from a nordic country?" Me typing: No But I have good intern-- *you were kicked out of the room*
We all lived this. Incredible game! I don’t think anything matches this in terms of storyline and tactical planning. I’m going to give Ready or Not a try!

Well except in Balkans it is a faithful even if rough description of world in 2001, but we must add Lybia and Sub saharian Africa if they would make an update of this tough but brilliant game in 2016
It did kind of, when this game came out, before 9/11, NATO had it's guard down after the Cold War, nowadays both Russians (like Maxim Kutkin in the game) have allied with the Shiah Muslims that at times side with Sunni Extremists (Like Same Vezizarde) and both are still a threat to the West.

I loved how a bullet hole would show up wherever you shot them, especially when it was right in the forehead! There was also one awesome death animation where the tango would put his hand wherever you shot him and then see the blood and look up stunned. If it was in the center of his back, he would try to reach it, but couldn't.
