Fun fact - we have a hint as to when Rem was eaten… the Blank Note. Remember Subaru can’t really write yet, so he had Rem write it. The intention to send was there but because the writer was erased, the note was now blank. So by then Rem was gone

You know, I've seen a lot of really big brain predictions from anime-onlies as this season was airing (shoutout to hollow, chrill, mini, snappy, and more recently lightning), but these are some of the most incredibly insightful analysis and predictions I've ever seen. It can’tbecan’tbecan’tbe. What the hell is this, I don’t get it. Why do I have to go through this. Who do you take me for. I am the Sin Archbishop “Greed” Regulus Corneas. The most satisfied existence in the world! The most indisputably asserted, an existence without any wavering aspects! It’s supposed to be like that, so why do I have to go through this?! Don’t mess around, this is no joke. Each and every one of them, what’s wrong with them that they accept such nonsensical absurdities as if they are a matter of course. That man, that woman, and that knight too, just because I showed a little mercy are getting too ahead of themselves, if I had been serious from the beginning then I could have had torn them apart in bits and pieces, but aren’t they misunderstanding their own power? That you can shamelessly make misunderstandings, that are from my point of view, hilariously wrong, is why I hate getting involved with others! Obnoxious, annoying, irritating, infuriating, vexing, dirty, unsightly scum. I’ve always always been doing well, for years, decades, centuries, this way for all that time, I have been faithfully serving as a Sin Archbishop more than anyone. When I was first chosen as a sin archbishop and received this witch factor, I killed them all, the father who despite his poor earnings was plagued with bad drinking habits, the mother who prattled on endlessly complaining day and night, and the greedy brothers who used to ravenously eye the portion that rightfully belonged to me, were all killed by me, the villagers who looked at me like I’m an idiot too, the people of the town who pushed me and my house into that hopeless village too, the inept heads of the country who carelessly abandoned the village and the town to that state in the first place too, I tore them all apart into bits and pieces, and when everything was gone I finally noticed a way I could live! I don’t need anything. Everything is just annoying. I am already satisfied. It’s not like I didn’t have it, I just didn’t need it. Unlike the intrusive scum, I’ve never needed anything. Despite that, giving me something, doesn’t that mean that from outside, from your point of view, that you looked at me and thought that I was a pitiful lacking existence. Everyone who wants to impose unneeded things on me should be killed, so only those who will leave the satisfied me alone should be allowed into this world. No matter who, just talking about their selfish nonsense, those shits. Who has the right to pity me. Who has the right to pity me and drive me to despair. As if I would let them. I don’t need anything and neither did I ask for anything. If they continue to live when I die, I’ll be over. If they are dead while I live would only mean my continuation. Love and affection only makes it so that people cannot be independent. A person is independent in the first place. Out of concern for those who operate under such delusions, to be looked down by others is foolish and so I found companionship by gathering well looking women, and in order to not be betrayed I ask for only virgins, what more do you want of me. Don’t skip such a selfish act. Infringing on me to this extent, but you still ask whether you can infringe upon me even more? To think you’ve hit this point! To think your thoughts could be so twisted! Inflicting all this upon me, what more could you even ask of me. Just what do I have to do to not be pitied. The most pitiful person in the world, or whatever! There is no way anything said by that a lady plagued with such vulgar “Greed” who wants to to connect with one she li~kes is justified!

Some interesting things to note (no spoilers):
Petelgeuse's name refers to the second brightest star in the constellation of Orion, Betelgeuse (yes it's written with a P, the anime mistranslated it).
Regulus Corneas' name refers to the brightest star in the Leo constellation, and "Regulus" mean "Little king" in latin.
Batenkaitos is the name of Zeta Ceti (a star in the Cetus constellation, sometimes called 'the Whale' in English) derived from the Arabic بطن قيطس (batn qaytus) "belly of the sea monster".
There are a lot of other names taken from astronomy, but I'll let you search for them ;)
Subaru and Aldebaran
The author has stated the misspelling of Petelgeuse is intentional and has a reason yet to be revealed
Considering it was written like that in English even before the anime, pretty sure its intentional, plus it’s not pronounced the same as the star by the dub or sub.
And the dub has shown they’ll properly pronounce words based off real things that Japanese people can’t properly pronounce (the sub pronunciation of Echidna is far from accurate, while dub uses the correct version instead of copying the sub).

Just while watching I noticed you had the questions of how the Sin Archbishops know who the candidates are. I wanted to point out that who the candidates are is public knowledge; there was an episode earlier just after Subaru had his fiasco in the royal court that the common folk were all gathered around posters of the 5 candidates when the green haired merchant asked why anyone would support Emilia as a candidate. However, I think the more intriguing question is WHY the Sin Archbishops are so interested and just how involved are they with all that is going on there.

Great reaction and analysis like always!! By the way in the light novel, this wasn't showed in the anime but before Subaru goes to Rem's room again , Subaru and Wilhelm have a discussion. Wilhelm shows Subaru a old wound that he got from Theresia's Divine protection of the Death God , which makes the wound look worse the closer the victim is to the one who carries the blessing.
Now the interesting part is that Wilhelm's wound was bleeding and that's the real reason why Wilhelm wanted to keep the alliance between Subaru and Crusch, so that he finds the truth and what's going on by trying go after the Witch Cult.
So yeah just wanted to tell you this , since I think it's important for Wilhelm's character

Note that even if the save point hadn't been updated, Subaru probably wouldn't manage to get to Rem in time.
He was in the middle of planning the strike against Sloth, after they had met up with Julius - which happened some time after Crush & Rem took of.
Rem wrote the letter, and it was the gluttony power that turned it blank - which means that Rem's name+memories already had been taken in the earlier stages of the operation.
Thank god that Subaru didn't have to try like 100+ times before concluding that he wouldn't make it in time no matter what he did...
Even if he could make it in time, none of them could take on Greed and Gluttony. Just way too much
@@xenowarrior282 Well, we haven't really seen the extent of their abilities yet, so that cannot be a given for anime-onlys.. However, if Subaru managed to get there in time, then he has RBD to work with.. So long as he is killed, he could get knowledge about their powers and come up with strategies, and if he thinks that they cannot beat Reg/Ley then the win-condition would probably change to getting away safely.
Although it is quite scary to think about what would happen if Gluttony gets to him - then he might not die and instead become a shell like Rem..

@@fili0938 True, but if you have read the web novel you should also know that he is suprisingly easy to take advantage of. It would probably take Subaru a few loops to figure that out though.

Subaru accepted suicide so fast , this truly shows how fucked up his mind is
and what hit me way more than Emilia offering help for Subaru was her saying "does it matter that I don't know her, YOU'RE hurting so bad because of this and that makes me want to help." is the strongest moment in this episode as it raises Emilia up to be the person she's going to be eventually as she can't remember Rem but she knows Subaru and doesn't want to see him hurting this badly.
"You are amazing, Emilia-tan - Really? I think you are much more amazing than me."
Is one of my favorite quotes of this season, mostly of what comes much... much later this season :) Try to remember it well for the payoff

There was so much good predicting in this (of which I will not say) I can't even-
There's an argument to be made for several things with a bit you spoke about here, a theory argues that when Subaru was dropped into this world, all the Royal Selection Candidates were within the immediate area and could have met Subaru, his interaction with them then would have had him join their faction and go from there, that he wound up with Emilia was happenstance.
But that "why does he love her?" it was initially because of a young mans crush, but that's on a beautiful girl in front of him and a girl who saved his life too, each of the Royal Selection Candidates are heroic and would've done the same as well as being beautiful themselves, so he'd have been a slavish follower of whoever, that it got more than that with Emilia was of her personality he got to know over being at the mansion.
Gueuse was in charge of testing Emilia like he said but when the Whale died i guess the big echo informed the gluttony archbishop and they send Regulus and Lye to be sure and check what happened. Didn’t Lye mentioned that the Whale was his pet or something ? I might be wrong tho bruh

@@psyculturists Hi buddy. I recently found two examples of people who said in the comment section of some Re Zero videos that this anime actually put them in more depression. They were complaining on the fact that Re Zero's psychological impact on the viewer is much more negative than postive. I need to know if that is the case because I don't want a person to watch Re Zero if he/she is already depressed. Does it increase the depression level of the viewer because he can relate to Subaru or motivates him instead. Please give your suggestion. Do you really think that Re Zero will have negative impacts on the viewers way of thinking?
@@AnimeFan-vo1hc I think at that point any media that may have dark themes may affect those individuals not necessarily just because it’s Re Zero would it or should it affect them in a particular way. I think of re zero like comfort food when you’ve had a bad day but everyone’s experience with it will be different. Like I find Re Zero to be frustratingly motivational others will probably just find it dark. What Id suggest is having your friends watch the first 2-3 episodes and choose if it’s for them. Li don’t think re zero has negative impacts but more like the negative world thinking and schemas that one may have affects their enjoyment of certain shows

Love your insight, I think it's really interesting to consider the way you breakdown characters and predict their actions not just from a psychological standpoint but also that of a writing one, in order to identify what it is that makes a character believable to us.
I'm assuming you're going to be mostly pre-occupied on this channel reacting to Re: Zero Season 2, however if you do ever want to cover another series then I *strongly* recommend Neon Genesis Evangelion. I swear everyone in that show suffers from some kind of personality disorder, but part of what I love about it is that eventually it gives you full context as to why these people act the way they do, and in the backdrop of a world that can be utterly annihilated any second, I think it would certainly make for a compelling character study.
Personally I would love to see your take on the main character Shinji, mostly because I was able to see a lot of myself in him and it would be very helpful for me especially to have a clearer idea of what exactly his issues are.
Either way, keep up the great work! It brings me a lot of joy seeing people who really know their stuff talk about their field of expertise.

What’s kinda fucked up abt what Regulus does is that not only are these army men injured, they’re also older and retired. They could hav easily continued to live normal, everyday lives where they relax in their retirement, but since they decided to do the right thing they have been killed and erased from existence. The ppl they lived with in retirement, their families and what not, won’t even know they’re gone.
I know some ppl like Gluttony’s character but I just can’t like them. Death is one thing. Erasing ones whole life is another.

What's fascinating is how ruthlessly effective Tappei is with the idea of losing one's "name". Lye's power consists of two sides that each of which would already be painful on their own, but used together are far more cruel to Subaru, and to us. If she lost her memories, she might not know who she is but at least we could take comfort in knowing that she could recover with the help of Ram and the others. If she lost just her name she'd be forgotten but at least she could still be the supportive sweetheart to Subaru. She lost both, and as a result she's not even conscious. Subaru is the only one who truly knows what's been lost. And this is Rem, the person he's depended on most for support lately. He has to essentially grieve for losing the one he's grown closest to, and he is all alone in it.

So no spoilers, but what Subaru was trying to tell Emilia about Rem at the beginning was that he wants Rem as his second wife and tried to figure out if Emilia is against it. He promised that to Rem during episode 21 of season 1, but it's cut content so I thought I should mention.
Correction.
Subaru doesn't necessarily "want" Rem as his second wife. He said he would only take Rem as his second wife IF Emilia was ok with it
