- This tutorial will show you how to crochet a children’s shell stitch dress.
This dress can be made in 5 sizes from size 6 - 12 months to 7 - 9 years. This tutorial follows the pattern for size 6 - 12 months. Detailed instructions for all sizes are included in the written pattern.
For this dress you will need a 5mm crochet hook and DK weight yarn. I used Drops Merino Extra Fine yarn.

For those who need to know...I bought the pattern. First size is 6-12 mos. (chain 62 to start)..Next size is 1-3 years. (Chain 74 to start). Next size is 3-5 years. (Chain 74 to start). Next size is 5-7 years (chain 86 to start). Largest size is 7-9 years. (Chain 86 to start).
Do you know how many grams is used for 1-3 years please

Thank you for the great video and the instructions. I love your channel and your patterns. But with this dress I cannot agree with the sizing of 6-12months. There is a huge difference between a baby of 6 months and a baby of 12 months. I made the dress for my 8 month old baby and unfortunately it didn't fit. It was too small and I had to make it bigger.
But nevertheless thank you for the video.

Would it be possible for u to tell me the width of the yoke. Mine ( using the 5mm hook) is looking tooooo big for a 6-12 mth baby ???
According to the written pattern the distance underarm to underarm is 25mm for the 6 to 12month size. I am not a very experienced crocheter. I am trying to understand whether I crochet too loose or too tight. I just finished a cardigan for me and that designer's pattern called for a 3.75mm hook. I had to go UP to a 4.5 to get gauge swatch to kinda meet size although i probably should have gone to a 5, I wasn't sufficiently accurate measuring the swatch. I learned I can't do it in my lap, have to do it on a nice flat surface. The sweater fit, thank goodness, but only because I made one size larger than I should have needed to. In this case the designer calls for a 5mm hook. I worked the first 5 back rows multiple times before I determined that I needed to go DOWN to get the proper size using a 3.75mm hook! So still I don't know if I crochet loose or tight...but I know enough now to always check the gauge with a swatch first! Hope it works for your little one. I think I will try to do a little sweater next to go with the dress.
What kind of hook are you using? Is it Clover? I truly enjoy your tutorials. You are extremely thorough so people know exactly what to do. You also have a super sweet voice to listen to. Very clear and calming. Thank you for teaching me this patterns and many others before this.

Yes, I ordered it per the link. It was $4.28 US. Best written pattern I have seen in my short crochet tenure. Wish all of them were as easy to follow.

@@sukumuko you’re welcome. It’s an adorable dress, but the pattern could be better. She doesn’t tell you how much yarn is needed for each size. There are other problems too.
The written pattern for all the sizes of the dress according to ages are not free. We have to pay a certain amount to be able to make an access for the pattern. Can you make them available for us for free?
I'm really sorry to say: I made one followed these steps, to be honest I worked hard to follow the instructions.
it's just for suggestion: don't be to much repeating explanation. It's better once but clear. The audience/ viewer can rewind easily since it's a video.
