Euro learner laws really should allow a few more BHP . I had this Honda, yes they could have got it to 14.7 BHP instead of 13.1 BHP, but that wouldn't have made too much difference. I think learner bikes should be allowed about 20 BHP maybe with an electronically limited top speed of about 75MPH for the UK , 130 Km/H for the rest of Europe. Then the 70MPH UK roads or 120 Km/H European roads become possible to safely use. The problem I found was getting up to 70MPH , it took ages. Over taking slow lorries was dangerous, not enough power to get past with the draft off the lorries.
Hi you have probably already answered this comment, but there are a lot of comments, do you know how this bike compares to the gsx s125, cannot choose between the two. I only do a little bit of dual carriageway riding from time to time, mostly riding in and around London streets. I've gotten too fat for my trusty cbf125 which had 11hp new and probably about 10 now, and i'm about 16 stone, so i'm starting to lean in the direction of the more powerful Suzuki, but the Honda feels and looks more premium, choices choices lol. Anything you could add would be great, any sort of comparison, Gearbox smoothness? throttle response smoothness, w/e comes to mind.
The CB125R rides like a mature (bigger) bike. Really good bike to ride on. Downside is that it is not that fast on the freeway. The GSX-S125 rides like a moped with extra power. The plus side is that it is faster than the CB125R. You are correct that the Honda feels and looks more premium... both gearboxes are smooth, throttle responses about the same. If you don't ride freeways that much, go for the CB125R. If you are planning to take a lot of freeways on your daily route, go for the GSX-S125. The Suzuki engine has more power, but the Honda just rides more like a big bike. I would like to see the Suzuki engine in the Honda CB125R. That might make it the best naked A1 bike available.
@@MotoSnax Thanks for the quick detailed reply. When you say the gsx rides like a moped, how do you mean? I only ask because when i worked for dominos, we had honda vision 125s (scooter/moped) and they felt a lot more agile than my cbf, which felt beneficial, their power delivery sucked though. Going to test ride the cb125r on sunday, see if it carries my 100kg self with ease or not. If going from 10hp to 13hp isnt noticable in real world conditions then ill have to test the suzuki and if neither then I may start looking at the cb300r. The 300 would solve any weight issue lol
The CBF and GSX-S are about the same as how you ride them. The CB125R feels like a mature motorcycle, the CBF and GSX-S125 just aren't really motorcycles. They feel like you are riding a moped. Not a bad thing, but you want to ride a motorcycle. But if you are allowed to ride 300cc's also, forget the CB125R, buy the CB300R.
@@MotoSnax If I bought the 300 for riding around London, I would never get it past 60/70mph. I mean the acceleration would be good for overtaking pesky busses. A lot of extra cost on insurance and fuel. And whenever I get road rage I'll go too fast because the engine will allow it. These are the reasons I don't ride bigger than 125. If I'm honest my ideal bike would have about 20bhp. But yeah I think I get what you mean about the differences between the Suzuki and the Honda. You've been really informative and helpful and I apologise for the late reply. All the best man.
Finally... top speed vid... thanx! Anyway cbr 125r is still fast a bit ✌🏼😎👍🏼 Is your bike stock? Try upgrading the exhaust and I assure you that there is a bit of power or performance.
The bike is stock, but the 2 valves also don't help for top speed. The exhaust should be swapped from front to back and then it still would struggle more than 4 valve engines.
Can you please tell me how much you weight. Just around because if you're just around 60 kilos an other guy with 80 kilos has not a chance to top this speed.
I was looking for video like this. Love your work! I try to find comparison between this honda with 13hp and new one with 15hp. Do u think its huge difference and is 13hp worth it?
Thanks! I think it might be a bit more powerful in the top end. If it is a huge difference? I really don't know. I'm sure the one with 4 valves (15 hp model) is better and I would go for that.
I can see your rev indicator starts flashing way later than what it does on mine. Have you changed the settings, and can this change the performance? Mine is only ridden 900 km so maybe it changes past 1k after it’s broken in? And do the performance get better after it’s broken in? Haha, lots of questions😅
I think you can change where it starts to blink. Check the manual. Maybe you cannot change it before you reach 1000 km. This was the demo of the importer, not sure if has better performance after the break in. Don't think so.
I only managed to get 68 MPH ( 109 Km/H ) out of my one on the Honda display. As you showed a GPS phone speedo shows the Honda display is optimistic. I had a voice GPS speedo telling me the speed in my ear. It said about 65MPH ( 105 Km/H ) when the speedo was saying 68MPH ( 109 Km/H) It looks like your GPS speedo is saying the Honda clock is about 9 to 10 Km/H optimistic which means the 131 you had on the clock was really about 121 Km/H (75 MPH )
@@Jafmanz They might state that. I couldn't get that. On my 2018 one it was real hard to get it over 65 MPH ! Okay I weighed about 95 Kg at the time, and I didn't lay down on the tank, so someone slimmer, laying on the tank might get higher.
hmm, mine has now 700km but i barely hit 100km/h on the dash... it goes fine untill 80-85, but then the revs aren't getting up that hard and it slowly goes to 95-100km/h. Any idea's? Does the engine still needs to break in at 700km? It is fully stock.
prolly a dumb question but i own the same exact motorcycle and it starts blinking white when i go past 7000 rpm and im afraid it wil be destroyed. does this hurt the bike?
That blinking light is the shift light, indicating when you need to shift. When new it starts lower but you can change when it starts to blink (rpm). Check the manual.
@@vzbz04 Depends on how long.. Red line starts at 11k rpm, so under that it should be fine but the engine will be stressed more at constantly 9k rpm than at 6k rpm of course. Then again, it is a Honda engine, they are good. Most important thing is maintenance.
A few months ago i was looking for my first bike, this one was on my mind too but i decided to buy an older aprilia rs. Best decision ever. The CB is awesome doe, i love the look of it, really cool indeed!
It should go faster than that. But sometimes with head wind I wasn't able to go faster than 107km/h or so. That is also why I have shown multiple top speeds. The highest was in the best conditions.
MotoSnax Oh ok, yeah i reached 105kmh with head wind today, but i can feelt it, that it wants more than that. I think i have to wait until the next 500km.
Try it with tail wind. :) If it reaches 105 with head wind, it should reach about 120 km/h or so. The 132 km/h was in perfect conditions and slightly downhill (2%). We don't have real hills or mountains over here.
As you can see in the video the speeds are different. Sometimes slow, sometimes faster. At least try to ride with wind in the back when going for the top speed.
The most expensive ones... Suzuki GSX-R125, Suzuki GSX-S125, Yamaha MT-125, Yamaha YZF-R125.. probably the new Kawasaki's too, but those I will try this year. CB125R feels like the most mature bike though. It feels like a bigger bike, steers like that, it just lacks power on the highway. But on urban roads, CB125R is a very good pick!
If the bike is geared too high it could be a solution. It will give slightly higher revs when cruising but at the same time eliminate the need for switching between 5’th and 6’th to reach topspeed. I used this myself way back when i had an XT 250 Yamaha. It struggled to reach motorway speed in top gear untill i geared it down to reach red line sitting up. It made first gear pretty useless but gave me a better bike overall.
@@kasperkjrsgaard1447 This bike makes peak power at 10,000rpm if i'm right in saying, so maybe 1 tooth more on front sprocket or 1-2 teeth less on rear.

Up till 2020, Yes. Yamaha is better than Honda. But for 2021 Honda has changed the CB125R engine. Two extra valves and more power. So I wonder how fast it will be. I won't be testing it as Honda The Netherlands / Belgium over here won't lend me any motorcycles anymore. Honda not doing so well over here so they had to cut back on demo bikes and people borrowing their motorcycles. Stupid move if you ask me because now you have less coverage and they were doing not so well in the first place. Honda motorcycles are really good motorcycles, but more time for me to give other brands some audience. :) If I will be riding Honda bikes on this channel in the future, they come from dealerships.
K, it’s slow af... I thought it could hit 180km/h at least... it will be more fun to ride on the tight mountain roads for sure, but for the same price I can get me a GSX-R 600 K7 and have fun on every road
I'm getting one on Friday if it can do 70Mph cruising I'm happy...With a bike that has 13Bhp and Weighs 125KG your topspeed also depends on how much you weigh...
@@MotoSnax Dunno are you with weight watchers? Well it's one factor not a definite factor at the moment I drive a PCX and weather e.g wind speed also has an impact if you go flat out... ow yeah and the wanker doing 30Mph in front of you also slows you down...
125 with gear indicator and the 300 missing it.... don't understand! Going to buy some new wheels next week...CB300r (5100€) or MT03 (5200€) ? Or any other option...? Keep up the good work!
Z300 is another option. Not sure why the gear indicator is missing on the 300. I heard that people in Asia rather see the temperature of the cooling liquid instead of which gear they are in. But that does not make sense of why the 125 has it and the 300 doesn't.
@@MotoSnax I think the Z300 will be discontinued in favour of the new Z400. Got to make my decision by the end of next week because I need a motorcycle...but I'm with doubts of what model will be the best ...
I have the same idea. Z400 has not been announced, but probably will be in November at the EICMA. But that does not mean you can't buy a Z300. The Z300 and new MT-03 have that extra cylinder, so on the highway they are much more powerful. CB300R is really fun when you don't want to speed that much on the highway. Difficult choice!
As long as you don't ride too much on the highway, yes for longer distances it is a fine bike. Yet for long distances I'd go for the CB300R. Just has more power.
In the 132 km/h part I was leaning forward (but still had to keep the camera facing the speedometer). Not sure if you can really reach 140 km/h on a naked bike. Most of the times up to 135km/h or so is possible.
This is quite funny, mine on a sunny day holds 125km/h easy on the highway on 10k rpm. But i usally cruise at that speed. i realised that it kinda has a barrier on 10k rpm like it won't go further. But if you get in a tunnel it just snaps and goes up to 150 km/h no problem, and start floating on the valves at around 11500-12000 rpm. Now i love the bike and all since it's comfortable and easy to ride. Even tho it does have a let down on the 13hp it still pulls away from the Yamaha YZF and MT. probably because of it's litghtness. I realised if you gonna go on the highway just go as far as you can in 5th gear (around 110 km/h) and shift into 6th. and you'll pull like crazy. 6th gear has a bigger space between it with 5th than 5th has with 4th and 4th has with 3rd. So you gotta give it that extra push. BTW if you know about some nice lowkey exhaust on the bike hmu. still looking for one going under the bike.
For me it was hard to reach those speeds you mention. And up to 150km/h? On a flat road? Give it a little time regarding the exhaust, after market exhausts will be on the market in a couple months, I guess. It will be a popular bike.
First time i hit it, was down a small hill, quite windy as well. so i wanted to try to see if it could do it on a flat road. So i tried first outside a tunnel (wind and other stuff) max i got it too was around 137 km/h. then i tried in a short tunnel (no wind) it shot up to 150km/h no problem. But when i bought the bike i was babying it until the engine was breaket in. so when i got above 500km i started giving some full throttle pulls do get thos high RPM's into the system. But the thing is. The CBR 2018 has a problem with the chain. So if you let it be loose (more than 3 cm) you can really feel that the bikes slows down and has some problems with gearing. But if you reguarly pump air into the tires and get the chain tight. You will have a easy time on the highway and it will be able to compete on the highway. I suggest buying O-ring chain, so you don't have to tighten it every other week or so. and have it more like 1 month. Do these things and put YZF/MT and see how you will pull away from them with only 13 hp
Oh and yeah, Leovince are making exhaust for them now. Dyno charts says it will have a more uplift on the high RPM's with power. so that will probably help achieve top speed as well
Yup it is not that powerful on the highway. But on the urban roads it is a great bike and feels like a bigger bike. The CB125R is in my opinion the most mature 125cc bike. It just lacks power on the highway.
My weight is around 85kg and KTM Duke 125 2018 do not go faster than 110 (with wind helping you). If there is a strong wind - even 100 is a problem. But it is still a lot of fun to ride it :)

Yes not yet cause we are dominated here with big bikes and underbones and scoots.
Perhaps they don't really like these types of bikes. Over here I miss super motard bikes. We had them but now only left with KTM and Husqvarna. They use the same engines, so not much competition anymore except for some 125cc super motards perhaps but not bigger 400-660cc SM's.
125cc =131km/h
1000cc = 1000km/h
Haha
It that were true! :)
@@MotoSnax if that were true we would have bikes with 5000cc engines and planes of 500000 and space ships of 182564329cc so our space ships could travel at light speed

A1 should be like 250cc 4 stroke no restriction to bhp. Most of them can't get past 25kW / 34 bhp anyway. That is much safer.
@@MotoSnax I would have quite liked a 34 BHP 250cc bike as a learner machine :)
I am getting one tomorrow
U got it m8?
@@MotoSnax oh and i just realised i replied with the wrong account lol
Finally... top speed vid... thanx!
Anyway cbr 125r is still fast a bit ✌🏼😎👍🏼
Is your bike stock? Try upgrading the exhaust and I assure you that there is a bit of power or performance.
The bike is stock, but the 2 valves also don't help for top speed. The exhaust should be swapped from front to back and then it still would struggle more than 4 valve engines.
Why do i this "hear" 6 gear is more for mpg ratio for going on 50-55, not for speeding?
Can you please tell me how much you weight. Just around because if you're just around 60 kilos an other guy with 80 kilos has not a chance to top this speed.
Oh I weigh 95kg without gear. So in total that would be near 100kg with all gear on.
@@MotoSnax okay thank you for answer👌
Great idea using the GPS, good vídeo.👍
Thank you!
I only managed to get 68 MPH ( 109 Km/H ) out of my one on the Honda display. As you showed a GPS phone speedo shows the Honda display is optimistic.
I had a voice GPS speedo telling me the speed in my ear. It said about 65MPH ( 105 Km/H ) when the speedo was saying 68MPH ( 109 Km/H)
It looks like your GPS speedo is saying the Honda clock is about 9 to 10 Km/H optimistic which means the 131 you had on the clock was really about 121 Km/H (75 MPH )
75mph is the stated top speed from honda.
@@Jafmanz They might state that. I couldn't get that.
On my 2018 one it was real hard to get it over 65 MPH !
Okay I weighed about 95 Kg at the time, and I didn't lay down on the tank, so someone slimmer, laying on the tank might get higher.
Honda CB125R @ this video >>-->> 01:16 top speed 132 km/h
hmm, mine has now 700km but i barely hit 100km/h on the dash... it goes fine untill 80-85, but then the revs aren't getting up that hard and it slowly goes to 95-100km/h.
Any idea's? Does the engine still needs to break in at 700km? It is fully stock.
Thats not normal it Shou get to 100km on the dash without much problem. Whats ur height and weight?
@@Max-mx8cy im 1m76 and weigh 90kg..
You should always be able to reach 100km/h even if you need to break in the engine. I weigh more than you.
@@MotoSnax so what could be the problem?
I need to go to the dealer at 1000km so i will ask it there too
I don't know what it could be. Just let the dealer change the oil at 1000km and see where it goes from there.
prolly a dumb question but i own the same exact motorcycle and it starts blinking white when i go past 7000 rpm and im afraid it wil be destroyed. does this hurt the bike?
That blinking light is the shift light, indicating when you need to shift. When new it starts lower but you can change when it starts to blink (rpm). Check the manual.
@@MotoSnax but if i drive at a high rpm say 9000 over a long period of time will it be destroyed?
@@vzbz04 Depends on how long.. Red line starts at 11k rpm, so under that it should be fine but the engine will be stressed more at constantly 9k rpm than at 6k rpm of course. Then again, it is a Honda engine, they are good. Most important thing is maintenance.

MotoSnax Yes, i had it yesterday.
How are you going so fast? I just got one and it barely does 60mph. Do they speed up after they've been run in?
As you can see in the video the speeds are different. Sometimes slow, sometimes faster. At least try to ride with wind in the back when going for the top speed.
If it struggles to hit 60mph and I believe there's something not right about your bike, I have seen Grom doing 70mph lol

whats for you the best 125??
The most expensive ones... Suzuki GSX-R125, Suzuki GSX-S125, Yamaha MT-125, Yamaha YZF-R125.. probably the new Kawasaki's too, but those I will try this year. CB125R feels like the most mature bike though. It feels like a bigger bike, steers like that, it just lacks power on the highway. But on urban roads, CB125R is a very good pick!
A solution could be a one tooth larger sprockett at the rear to lower the gearing and raise the ability to reach topspeed.
True, but that would also alter the top speed.
@@Gobbbbb To be honest i don’t think that a 125 cc could pull a higher gearing.

Het blijft een 125cc en die zijn vaak wat kleiner.. ik ben 180 cm, had er geen moeite mee... 7 cm zal ook nog wel mee vallen. Kan je proefzitten bij een dealer?
Is the Yamaha mt and yzf r125 better to own?
Your expectations of a 4 stroke 125cc are way off the charts. :) This is just an average 4 stroke 125cc bike. It is doing what is is made to do.
What’s your weight it’s very important for topspeed
95 kgs. This CB125R is very weak on the freeway compared to other bikes like the GSX-S125 and MT-125.
MotoSnax i know I also have 95kg but I hate to drive on the German Autobahn and 73mph it’s enough for me✌🏽
German autobahn is fun on a 1000cc. 125cc? No thank you. Also short entry and exit ramps compared to The Netherlands.

How tall are you? Is it comfortable for a 185cm guy?
I'm 180cm. 185cm should be OK. it is not a tiny bike.
I'm getting one on Friday if it can do 70Mph cruising I'm happy...With a bike that has 13Bhp and Weighs 125KG your topspeed also depends on how much you weigh...
I probably had huge weight gains and losses as the top speed was different three times in just a week time. :)
@@MotoSnax Dunno are you with weight watchers? Well it's one factor not a definite factor at the moment I drive a PCX and weather e.g wind speed also has an impact if you go flat out... ow yeah and the wanker doing 30Mph in front of you also slows you down...

Yep, stock.
@@MotoSnax gone a step forward and bought the new MT-07 ;)
You don't really need gear indicator, you know by the sound and rpm when to change gear.
K&N FILTER + RACE EXOUST = > 14HP
That's like 82mph, my 2021 model is meant to be slightly more powerful so why am I struggling to get 60mph!!?
60 mph out of the new 2021 is not good. Perhaps it needs some more mileage before it can higher top speeds?

As long as you don't ride too much on the highway, yes for longer distances it is a fine bike. Yet for long distances I'd go for the CB300R. Just has more power.
Which you used to measure speed on phone
Speedometer from COOL NIKS. An Android app. but any app will do as it reads the information from the GPS chip in the phone.
you can make 140 if you lean your body all the way on the bike and with very litle wind resistence ofc
In the 132 km/h part I was leaning forward (but still had to keep the camera facing the speedometer). Not sure if you can really reach 140 km/h on a naked bike. Most of the times up to 135km/h or so is possible.

I'm sorry, no Honda CB Hornet 160R over here.
Hello what is your weight please ?
95kg without motorcycle gear on.
How'd you get it up to 11500-12000 rpm???
Shouldn't the rev-limiter prevent that to prevent permanent engine damage?
12 000rpm is it's rev-limiter. The max torque hits on 8 000rpm and max hp hits on 10 000 rpm. So it better to just hit it at the highway
Dyno charts says it will have a more uplift on the high RPM's with power. so that will probably help achieve top speed as well
My cb125r only reach 115 in flat road. Only when going down it will barely reach 120
:(
Yup it is not that powerful on the highway. But on the urban roads it is a great bike and feels like a bigger bike. The CB125R is in my opinion the most mature 125cc bike. It just lacks power on the highway.

The top speed on a motorcycle is so dependent upon the weight of the rider... All of these top speed videos are misleading unless the weight of the rider is disclosed. Personally, top speed is of no interest to me. As long as the motorcycle can safely propel me within the legal speed limits (including up hills) is all that I care about...
If you know the top speed, you know what the cruising speed can be. But yes, it has to do with rider weight, wind, road conditions etc.
