He was a wonderful christian man. We lived in yazoo city for 7 years and he was the same on stage and off. While filming one of the tv shows at 6 flags in texas, he took my toddler up on stage with him. He had the best time. I first saw him while attending a men and boys rally in laurel, ms. Thanks for the memories.

cleanest southern comedian that ever lived. Today's comics, whether they be from the south or not, would've learned a lot from Jerry Clower's brand of humor.

In about 1972 or so, my dad booked Jerry Clower as an unknown to open for a Charley Pride show in Jacksonville. I was about 10 and remember that night very well ... Charley Pride's manager said the union rules would not let Clower on stage as part of the show. My dad got clever and sent him out to perform while the lights were still on and people were still entering the Coliseum. People loved it. Clower and my dad were close friends ever since that. Jerry Clower was a wonderful, decent and very funny man. He did that first show for an airplane ticket and a couple hundred dollars!

@@tranurse Jacksonville, Florida.... my parents owned WQIK radio and someone got ahold of a Clower recording before he was well-known and the station played it on the air. Jacksonville definitely knew who Jerry Clower was before everybody else outside of Yazoo City did! Clower and my dad were friends for years. JC even showed up to do a "surprise" show at one of my dad's high school reunions in South Georgia.

Are you referring to one of the people in his story? Otherwise, you are confused. Jerry Clower grew up in MIssissippi and pretty much stayed there. His wife was not named Joyce.

An Ancient Talent that seems to have faded -
In every ethnic group, every race, there have always been "The Storytellers" -
Possibly the Irish created "The Wopper Stories", but there's nothing finer than a Good Story Teller -
Cotton Ivy was a good one for sure, "bout made me wet-my-pants", at dinner one night - at the Petroleum Club in Nashville - way back in 1988.
    Absolutely fine Story-Tellin'!
    Bless em - ☘☘☘
