They can’t help it, they’re brain dead, they think every 3D platformer is trying to copy Mario
Ethan channel to be fair. The 3D platformer has been dead outside of mario for years and as such mario has no competition. So because of the lack of other games in the genre people will associate any 3D platformer with mario instinctively. It’s like if there was only one active and amazing FPS series. If someone were to make another FPS, we’d instantly compare.

People who had a high likelihood of playing the game. Part of why I watch IGN's reviews on day of release is because they usually don't spoil anything huge in a game review. This game looks meh, but it had potential to be a nice platformer. Patches might address some of the issues, which could make it a decent purchase when it's in the bargain bin.

You might want to check the dictionary. Bias and comparison are two totally different things.
Thats fair because they both released around the same time. Critics did the same with Armageddon and Deep Impact. Two asteroid destroying earth movies.

I'm playing it on series x and don't understand why they don't like the controls. They feel very tight to me
First of all the game isn't bad, it is a solid 8, it is cute and a fun game to play. The camera is never a real issue and for the jumping depth perception, a shadow is placed under Lucky to gage your jumps, but genius IGN seemed to never figure this out.
Also, they are comparing a game of one of the biggest companies whith one of a little studio

Literally bs the man made it clear from the start that he was playing the game comparing it to Mario at all times and this game is not Mario so he ended up hating every single thing about the game I guarantee people that people can easily get used to the camera this was such a bad review.
It bs that the game is a 5/10 and trying to compare it to a game that has an automated deepthroat factor where its reviewed well simply by name alone. And this is coming from a nintendo guy.
Phil Collins Gamestop said the same thing about the game. Seems to be an issue. Ryan is an Xbox gamer too. He runs the Xbox podcast.
Bought it for my 3 year old daughter and I to enjoy together. This is her very first 3D game she's played. We're both loving it so far. The camera is a bit of a pain, but I'm not complaining too much. It has very smooth controls and I haven't had a problem with anything so far.
Personally, I LOVE the game. I tried it for the first time a few days ago on a friend's console. Sure, the camera is a bit choppy, but for very good reason. There's nothing to see in the other direction. Everything you need to see is in full view. Also the controls are brilliant and ultra responsive. I had no issue with judging where Lucky would land. I'm quite used to that kind of layout. There are a number of games with much worse camera angles which make it very easy to misplace jumps, a game which this player/reviewer is clearly heavily biased towards which he kept making comparisons with. I'd personally give it a 9/10. It's not the best, but it's super fun and addictive, and Lucky is just super adorable :3

The problems he brought up are problems I've experienced with other "seemingly simple games".
If the game plays slowly, and there are glitches, and weird platform detection, the game gets frustrating.

Microsoft cancelled Scalebound because the developers couldn't deliver. It was never replaced by anything.
I don't think MS really care that much that they cancelled it I doubt they really lost any money.
I was one of the people who really wasn't into Scalebound anyway.
Scalebound had a troubled development thanks to the creative differences between Microsoft and Platinum studios. The game was marred with a whole host of issues which in turn resulted in a product that was nowhere near fit for release, thus resulting in the cancellation. It was probably for the best that Microsoft cancelled the title if we are to believe the reports that surfaced regarding the games development.
IGN: 2/10 no battle royale
This game was a blast, just wish it was longer...really hoping for another one.

What is with the unnecessary bashing of the game over a little camera? The gameplay is just fine, and the camera turns as much as it needs to. Sure it could have been better but it doesn't ruin the game.

I always secretly hope that halfway through the game, you will get slapped to your senses and you will hear "Damn it, I told you not to mix those 3 drinks", all these cuteness fade away, and the game reveals itself to be a proper Conker game.

People need to remember that this is a 30$ game! Also i dont recall mario galaxy having the best camera control either but it's still phenomenal...camera in that game was literally controlled by a dpad.
DRM Sparkles I like Xbox, but don't compare Galaxy to this trash. Just buy Voodoo Vince Remastered or BattleBlock Theater if you want a platformer

I think this game lloks awesome too but seeing the review score for the game I would recomend you get a hat in time instead. I havn't played these games but after seeing the reviews I think a hat in time is a safer bet.

I'm glad that Cuphead is getting traction because it's a great throwback to 1930s animation like the works of Fleischer Studios and I think more people should learn about animation's evolution and milestones. In fact, Cuphead earned a 10/10 on Steam!

Yeah I thought it was weird that Destructoid said the exact opposite, that the control felt good. I'm curious on if 4k increases input lag? I don't have a 4k tv, but Lord knows i've played on some normal 1080p tvs where the lag is noticeable outside of Game Mode. Who knows what this guy was playing on.
So any platformer that isn't Mario gets destroxed by IGN and critics; honestly corporate reviewers are the worst thing that happened to gaming.

Exactly from what he said of the later levels and what ive played myself, its worse than mediocre, its bad. 3.5/10. has some interesting ideas but poor controls and no feel of depth in a platformer is abysmal.
It's also half the price.

Lol, I like how people are blaming Mario for this game sucking.
Just goes to show it's all about the games and not the power of the system they are on. The Switch is easily the weakest system this gen but has great games. The Xbox one X is the most powerful but barely has any games worth playing on it.
Even with some multiplatform games I would rather play Doom on a Switch over the Xbox version. I might loss 60fps but nothing beats killing demons with a BFG while on the crapper.
Don't worry they still have Minecraft 4K and Sea Of Thieves to show of the true "power" of the X...LOL.

exactly.. look @ dark souls too.. most rpgs get almost each time dark souls treatment.. same theme but just different story, but close to dark souls battle style and level up.. those are bashed as well

That is quite sad I played the VR version and that was great but they rewrote the whole thing and made it a Microsoft exclusive. Just think if we had kept it in VR and not changed the story line, we would have a lot more people stop saying VR is a gimmic and could change the way people look at it.

The reason why you can't change the camera angles is because it was clearly made to a squeal to the 1st on Oculus Rift, which I'm still bitter that dumped VR (1st looked amazing in VR) for a xbox one x game....
You should never spoil an ending to the game you're reviewing. Regardless if you like the game or not.

Backwards compat is basically the only thing worth, but even then you could just use an emulator or go buy an original xbox.

Shadow4192008 idk about that a lot of us use it. I play dead space often. Since they brought it back I've replaced 1 and 2 many many times. Blops2 had a lot of people going back to it too. It's a nice feature.
Even so nothing wrong with having more features and more value for a product you buy, don't see any issue with that regardless of using it or not.

Well considering Microsoft has gone away from game exclusivity, and giving the PC everything that is "exclusive" to the Xbox brand (Lucky's tale included) meanwhile PlayStation is eating their lunch. Nintendo's stealing all its Thunder. And even PC Gamer In Their Own review of the Xbox One X recommends getting a switch instead. Wow. That is a next level burn.

Whoever says this game is easy is lying. Here are some games I've found (and beaten) much easier than Super Lucky's Tale:
-Red Dead Redemption 1 & 2
-GTA V
-All of the Batman Arkham games on New Game +, including Origins.

They complain about the camera not being free, but it looks to me like the camera in Super Mario 3D World. That game was near ruined by the weird and bad feeling camera for me, but IGN still loved it. It's a shame since I was looking forward to this game, but I'll wait for the ACG, Jim Sterling, Angry Joe or Zero Punctuation before I make up my mind.

That one is a perfectly designed game.
You could move the camera in 1 player mode, but the angles were already good.
And the gameplay was very different, with movement in 8 directions instead of full 360 degrees.

3D World is very different in style to Lucky. It wasn't a collectathon either. I never even messed with the camera in 3D World at all, because I felt that the default was fine for what the levels consisted of.

Lucky is delightful and a total blast to play. Especially New Super Lucky's Tale on the Switch! The animation is so smooth and fluid and the characters funny and cute ....not to mention the gameplay is just plain fun and really varied. Again.. I beg you to give this game and newer IP a chance. It has so much potential as a franchise. If you like 3D platformers at all then this game is for you. Have a great day everyone. Cheers!

I downloaded this tonight, and have a slightly different opinion than your review. First, comparing it to Mario Odyssey is a bit unfair. I'm right about to tackle the final boss in it, and it's outright amazing. Easily one of the best 3d platformers of all time. Lucky is a budget title.
So the controls on my old Xbox One are pretty good. Perfect, no, but I found them to work well. The camera is, well, odd and a bit lame. Unless it's a 2d area, I can only agree that you should have full control over it. I feel that this is due to the original VR game, and trying to keep it similar. Not a good choice.
On the plus side, it's so cute that my wife is completely enamored with it. 😊
I also downloaded it on PC, and didn't have a game pad handy. Do not play this with a keyboard.
I haven't played all that much of it yet, so I can't give any more opinion on it yet, but I think my score may be at least a tiny bit better.

Damn this game had it tough. Since day 1 of its announcement, people wrote off Lucky's Tale as a Mario clone and shoved it in the trash. Meanwhile, Odessey was earning Game of the Year awards ever since its first reveal. Lucky's Tale never had a chance.
Well, Lucky isn't even comparable to Odyssey.
Even if Mario Odyssey weren't to have come out, people would have the same problems.
When I saw the reveal of Lucky's Tale, it looked like a lot of fun, but now watching gameplay of it, I can really see how flawed it is...
It's really too bad, as I thought it had potential.
I would play it to make sure, but I don't have an XBOX.
Microsoft owns Conker and Banjo & Kazooie.

I've been playing this it's like a cross between the first crash bandicoot and Mario 64 I really like it so far I recommend it to anyone else who loves the first couple crash bandicoot games or Mario 64 like I do

Another thing that makes no sense are the scores Bubsy and Super Lucky's Tale got on their IGN reviews. Bubsy is CLEARLY more rough, unpolished, and unfinished than it should be and got a 4.5, while this one here got a 5.0 ???
