    Such a good video! From Bella discussing the plans with the chickens, to gardening, being self sufficient, sources of food storage. Learning from others, resource info(ie books), or on your own is all good. Not being afraid to make mistakes is also how you learn. Love the bartering you do, not only to help you, but help others. Thank you for this video, and especially the time it took. This will help with my future!

    My grandma had 10 kids starting during the war (1943, firstborn) up to a decade later. My mom grew up in a family with a smaller house and a big garden, and they had the same "principles" when growing up. Being resourceful is the best thing she has learned growing up. My dad is an only child, sent to boarding school as they had a grocery store at home, and boy does it ever show that he had no siblings! My mom can make stuff out of nothing (we have a shed full of supplies and things that we possibly could use and repurpose). My dad would throw money at everything (not that he does, mind you, but it's his mindset). My mom did her absolute best during 50+ years of marriage to slowly turn him around, but the man is stubborn! LOL I absolutely, dearly, love your family and how you tackle life.

    A really good goat book is put out by the Heifer Project in Conway, Arkansas. I raised Nubians for about 55 yrs. and had an extensive goat book library. Invariably, I used the info from that book.
    I really like dairy animals. Nubians are my all time favorite. If my hands weren't so arthritic I would still be milking.

    You are a great family raising a great family. Our family hasn't eaten meat in years and we never miss it! If you had a child that wouldn't eat meat or was upset by the things at your farm what would you do? A friend of ours married a Mennonite farmer that had a dairy farm. She was a strict vegan. She was so attached to the cows she helped milk everyday! She said her father-in-law would read the Bible to her and assure her that it was a Godly thing but she said took her kids out for the day when they took the dry cows for slaughter! My sister said that my Grandmother butchered a nasty rooster in front of us and that I screamed for hours and made myself sick. She said she was also sick and my mother and her had a huge fight and we never went back to the farm again. My grandfather used to hate butchering. He would take the chicken and stroke it and pray for forgiveness for what he was about to do! My grandmother would grab the chicken screaming and thrashing and chop it's head off! The best or worst was when my uncle got her mad she served his pet rabbits for dinner! I think that anyone that eats meat should thank the animal that they are eating for giving their life to feed them! It's the least they could do! Remember people in other countries eat dogs! Would you eat your dogs?

    • @jasonandjulie
      @jasonandjulie  Год назад

      We’ve never forced our kids to be part of butchering animals, and if they choose not to eat them that’s fine with me.
      However, you might want to listen to this podcast. It was really eye-opening for me from a health perspective.

    Cornish cross hens do lay eggs. We let some live long enough and they did give us eggs. Even the male did breed with them. We did get fertile eggs BUT for some reason they would only incubate to a certain time and then stop. Stinks because we really wanted to be able to incubate and start raising our own.

      Yes. We go to urgent care if there are any broken bones. It’s only happened twice though! Pretty good record for 16 years of parenting very active kids 😆
      We see a chiropractor monthly. He is able to do any testing if it would be needed. We have a family dentist that we go to as needed. And Costco has an eye doctor in store. So far the kids all have perfect vision, so it’s mostly for me! I wear contacts so I periodically have to get those renewed

My neighbor rasies goats, chickens and a beef cow and she's never vaccinated any of her animals and they are all happy, healthy and thriving. He also has “LIVER RESCUE” book, “THYROID HEALING” and his new book “BRAIN SAVER” he has amazing podcast and his blog is amazing! I searched for many many years for answers , and his connected all the dots for me. I was well seasoned in many many books of natural healing, and I am purely amazed by his.
