There is actually a giant meteor crater just south of I 40. It's a park with an observation platform . Check it out on the satellite. Love your content Dan. I pulled a flatbed for 10 years and I'm hauling cars nor for the last 15. Just local now in the Philadelphia area. Your videos bring it all back to me from running the road. Stay safe.
The history around it is interesting too.
I checked out the satellite view, wow, that meteorite just missed the visitors centre. Lucky buggers.

Memories of Hoover Dam in the 90s losing my shift tower on the last horseshoe turn. Luckily the truck didn't lug as I was able to make it and pull over. Radioed to the roving security "Columbo" asking for a piece of timber to lodge between clutch and seat tower as to keep truck running for a/c. He found an exact piece as if made for me lol Hwy 93 has improved a lot

That mountain is San Francisco Peaks. Used to live at the base near snow bowl. Beautiful but too cold in my old age.

Iam currently in Wells,NV it's 6° deg here ran my diesel fired heater on the sleeper all night, it's still hauling balls right now, heading to Bringham,UT to pick up some metal for a barn structure, no tarping required thank God. I just purchased "Trucker path" wasn't very happy using it from Las Vegas to Elko,NV it took me off the main highway and sent me on every goat trail,quail trail, chicken train and mule path the last 150mi, although the roads were well maintained, hauling Earth mover tired on hairpin turns for the last 100mi of the trip wasn't necessary, it could have kept me on I-93 north to I-80 Then to the customer, IDK? Maybe I didn't have it set up right?. It better straighten up or iam going to fire "Trucker path"!!!... Lol

Maybe that heavier APU generator will last longer because it’s made out of heavier metals like steel and iron, hold up better to vibration and heat, keep it mind it was probably spec’s out for the additional load for the extended living area, kitchen circuits more HVAC etc…
Around 1981-82, Flagstaff had that huge forest fire and burned every thing south of it and all of Flagstaff. Right before the first Flagstaff exit, on the right there was a truck stop Ski resort that my co driver and i use to stop in all the time. You got off 40, hung a left and back under I 40, first driveway on the left and pulled into the back where they had a few pumps and some parking. The resort was just fantastic. Huge wooden stone structure. Any how that fire burned it to the ground and nothing i mean nothing survived. The roads, I-40 both directions melted, the city burned to the ground. They moved it a little north and rebuilt it. Never again it never being the same..

That crater you mentioned is quite large and deep. It's between Flagstaff and Winslow. When I brought an airplane from Lake Havasu City to the Northeast I flew over it and made a fuel stop in Winslow... just because of the song. As it were, the airport in Winslow did not have much going on so I ended flying back to Flagstaff to pick up some charts before heading back East, stopping off in Tucumcari... because of a song, picked up some more fuel and then headed off to Amarillo.

16 years or so ago I had my son with me and stopped and checked out Meteor Crater well worth the stop. And you can see it from 40.

Used to drive over Hoover dam, every Sunday morning. Nothing like a 280" tractor and 53ft trailer across it. With thousands of people standing on the dam with you. That was back in the 90's. Also water level back then, full pool.

The crater is about 7kms or about 5 miles south of the rest area. The exit is the same one for the RV rest area. The crater is about half a kilometre across. A pretty big hole!

Yes! There's a meteor crater south of I-40. BTW, Freind is pulling a RV trailer with 3 cars on back headed for Tulsa, planning to stop in Kingman too. He has a Freightliner M 2 crew cab with long single axel RV trailer.

I did a road trip with my parents and nieces back in 06 from Ontario Canada to Tijuana Mexico and we passed through meteor crater. We stopped at the crater site which is a heritage site. It was awesome to actually see the crater site which is about a mile in diameter and about half mile deep. The amount of sand that was displaced into the atmosphere was incredible leaving a huge hole/crater in the ground. I really enjoyed the dry heat! I truly understood what the dry heat did to my joint pains. I never felt that good while I was in that area.
If you are passing through there, it really is an awesome place to see up close. There is a petrified forest just nearby to see also which my parents saw back in the 90’s while on a previous road trip
There are so many beautiful places to see in North America.
We stayed in flagstaff that night. Such a tiny town and left for Las Vegas.

I think that's route 93 you were on. That meteor crater is quite a popular tourist pass through. It is a mile wide in diameter. A cool stop if you get the chance.

I don't know if you are aware, but there is an AZDOT camera at the I-17 and I-40 intersection. As Flagstaff is the highest and coldest point on I-40, you can check the road conditions at a glance. I used it a lot when I drove I-40 regularly.

That looked like a lot a diesel on the ground. I hope you notified someone. They have material that can absorb it before it contaminates the ground water.

Just take a look at them. Since you like working on things they said that Green APU part's are easy to come by

D with your onboard water supply, U should get a small electric power washer! U can use 'grey water' for nasty salt, georgia clay etc. Clean water for a nicer wash. utoober motocheez has a few reviews of them.
I drove that way in May 1973 on vacation. I was driving a 1972 Dodge Challenger. The road between the Grand Canyon and Kingman was I-40 and it was under construction speed limit 45 mph. The Hoover dam was at capacity then. That has changed too.

Hi Dan, Thank you and be careful out there. Do not know how nasty the governments may get with this experimental border crossing. I remember what was done to the air traffic controllers in the 1980's. Different issue, but could be same outcomes. Those folks got banned for life from working in their industry.
A thought would be to see if you could make the bottom bed of the generator slide out for servicing. Not sure of its design.

That is Flagstaff. And about 20 miles from that rest area a huge meteor hit and there's a huge crater I the ground

Retired now but when I was on the road with my pet, I would check the surface temperature (concrete/ asphalt/sand etc.) when I walked the dog. I realize it is winter now and cooler temps right now but do you check the ground temp in the warmer States when you let Baily out for a walk? If not, help Baily out and save the pads of his feet from burns.
