    I cant believe that in the future you can be a funky cat monk, a space squid sniper or stitch! i wonder if we can replicate some exosuit style characters or at least a Dr Octopus one in the age of SPACE!

    I love this playtest and I hope they don't nerf things too much. Let it be what it is and have a slightly different balance scale than PF2. We want the game to have a separate feel. We already have PF2. Don't just do PF2 in space for flavor. Change things up. I'm all for it...

      They said a couple of times that Starfinder will be a little more powered than Pathfinder, with stuff like fly coming a little earlier, a little easier thanks to technology.

      Everyone having guns changes design entirely. They already said they built starfinder for ranged combat design whereas Pathfinder is more melee focused

    I'm glad they made Suppressed just a general condition and not a Soldier exclusive one like in the field test. It opens up some interesting new possibilities for spell and feats and such. Untethered is potentially interesting too, but I think it needs a little cleaning up first.

    Solarian was my favorite class in 1E, and maybe my favorite class I've ever played in TTRPG period. I really love what they've done with it in 2E and am looking forward to playing one in playtest.

    I am totally going to just plug Solarian into Pathfinder, it's always been my fave Starfinder class, and it's mostly melee without any guns or tech needed directly, so hopefully it will not break the lowtech fantasy version of the game. (They do get a semi-magical ranged attack by default though.) I will blame their existence on the pleromas. All I really need to do is make the solarian crystals less science sounding.

    As someone who's ideal version of a bard is less a full spell caster and more a jack of all trades support, Envoy is sort of like what I wish bards were in D&D and Pathfinder. Charismatic, great party support etc, without being full on casters.

    So if I want to play with guns in pathfinder instead of doodoo dmg gunslinger i can just use starfinder's operative right?

    • @hellfrozenphoenix13
      @hellfrozenphoenix13 2 месяца назад +1

      With GM approval, yes. But that's also assuming you get those weapons instead of pF2e weapons.
      I can see Operative being more consistent and Gunslinger having better with crits when all is said and done.

    I still wonder what would be the rules for archaic weapon
    Right now no combat item in playtest has archaic trait, and in the description it just says you can apply runes, but it's "unsuited against modern armor" or "susceptible to modern weapons"

    • @hellfrozenphoenix13
      @hellfrozenphoenix13 2 месяца назад +3

      My theory is that it'll refer to any weapon in PF2e since all of those would be archaic, but they need to make sure that line is as obvious as possible.
      It'd also be cool, assuming that is the route they go, if they can do a class that's focused on archaic weapon use and utilize mechanics from PF2e that aren't used as much in SF2e.

    • @nolanstrife7350
      @nolanstrife7350 2 месяца назад +1

      @hellfrozenphoenix13 the first one is not really a theory. It's a fact, lol
      I didn't mention it, but it was written that everything from PF2e is considered archaic. Armors, weapons, etc. It's even mentioned that it can be etched with runes as normal while modern weapons cannot

    It's curious to me that WW can't be Charisma based. It was CHA in 1E. Percog was INT based casting and was merged into WW, but it's still odd to me that it can only be INT in the playtest. I wonder if this was them wanting to push 'one class per stat' or if this is a shift in philosophy in how they imagine WW's working.
    Because with Technomancer coming as the next casting class, which was INT based in 1E and it's hard to imagine them shifting technomancer to CHA, this could mean that unlike D&D and PF that tend to have an abundance of cha casters, SF2E might not have ANY cha casters AT ALL for at least the first year or two of its release.
    Unless they change their mind and let WW choose INT or CHA like Psychic can.

    We need to know how "timeworn" is supposed to work, aside from not rechargeable.

  • @MalzraAirwynn
    @MalzraAirwynn Месяц назад +1

    To give a bit of context as to why all the casters so far are multi tradiation, SF1E didn't have spell traditions, but rather had class based spell lists. And on top of that, SF1E launched with TWO casting classes and ended with FOUR. With Precog merged into Witchwarper, that means when Technomancer comes out all four of SF1E's spellcasters are going to be in the game already, with two merged together.
    Part of why SF had so few casting classes is simply that it had fewer classes than pf in general. But now that they're making SF2E compatible with PF2e, that means working in the four spell traditions. Lacking the abundance of casting classes that PF2E has, they can't really just make 'the arcane caster' and 'the occult caster' and the' divine caster' and 'the primal caster' in the same way PF did wizard/bard/cleric/druid. They have to be multi tradition in order to represent all four out the gate.

    My only issue is that they left out mechanic and technomancer and even when the official book comes out those 2 will be in a different book..... why?

      They said it's because they want to put in a lot of tech gear for the mechanic to interact with, but... It feels REALLY weird to not have something as archetypical as a mechanic.

    • @charlespickering2726
      @charlespickering2726 Месяц назад

      Sounds like they will be adding a playtest specifically for both of those classes sometime this winter but I think they are getting included in their own tech book because they want to make sure there is enough tech stuff available for them before adding them.

      @charlespickering2726 Месяц назад

      @@bunbunkitten I think the reason they felt they could hold off is if you take a P2E inventor they cover a lot of the mechanic bases already to hit the starfinder 1e mechanic feel.

    So I know the systems are cross-compatible, but would grabbing a spell from SF2 break a PF2 character? It seems like theyre balanced with different considerations in mind and I can't help but worry that that approach will make them a hard sell for someone wanting to mix-match

      I don't think most would be too broken, although obviously any tech spells would need to be reworked. As a GM, I intend to allow it on a case by case basis. Probably won't be allowed in organized play.

    I love the Mystic class chassis, but I feel like the feats and focus spells don't make full use of it. The transfer trait has a ton of potential for cool stuff but not much takes advantage of it. Most of the transfer feats are boring or useless. I wonder how many errata they're planning to do during the playtest.

    • @chad2997
      @chad2997 2 месяца назад +1

      @@nikidelvalle Have to partially disagree. I think most of the focus spells are badass and really good as far as focus spells go. I do agree with you on the feat selection not being up to par. Good thing is that this is the playtest. Paizo is about to be flooded with feedback from us players between now and end of year. And they're usually pretty good about actually reading it.
      There were a good amount of changes made to PF2 from playtest to official release, and that was back when it didn't have any community. Everyone was still diehard PF1 and weary of new edition. Now this system has gained much more traction and has way more players. We're all invested now and everyone is super excited for new content. Just be sure to submit your feedback before end of year. And I do love the mystic chasis. Vitality network is such a fun mechanic.

    • @nikidelvalle
      @nikidelvalle Месяц назад

      @@chad2997 Whether the focus spells are "badass" or not, very few of them have the transfer trait on them. Rhythm Mystic, for example, doesn't get a single epiphany spell that has the transfer trait on it. The Vitality Network is clearly the core of the class and there isn't enough in the class as it is right now to allow you to exploit it in creative and interesting ways. This is also a problem with many of the feats, where interesting uses of the Vitality Network are few and far between, and many of the uses that do exist are entirely useless (like that one feat that lets you create resistance to the damage type of a spell). There's more that both the feats and the focus spells can do to make using the vitality network more dynamic, and there's a lot of potential for cool gameplay in the mechanic that is not currently represented. I'd love to see access to additional Harmony effects in particular, similar to the way that the Sorcerer can opt into new Blood Magic effects by taking certain feats. Other effects that would be cool would be things like being able to free action sustain an epiphany spell by spending points from your Vitality Network, have an ally or yourself able to survive an attack that would bring you or them to zero hit points by drawing from your Network as a reaction, add points from your Vitality Network to a healing spell, Aid any check using your connection skill using the Network, etc.
