Considering the depths to which live performance of popular music has sunk, this is a masterpiece. No choreography, no Autotune, only what? A real band, playing a great tune, live.
A magnificent song in every way. I love the lines: ' I'm not waiting on a lady/ I'm waiting on a friend.' Inspired music from New Orleans, as Mick Jagger said.
From Wikipedia -" It was first played as early as 1970, when Mick Taylor first joined the group and was recording with Mick Jagger in London. Recording on "Waiting on a Friend" began in late 1972 through early 1973 in Kingston, Jamaica, during the Goats Head Soup sessions when the band still had Taylor as a member. His guitar piece made it to the overdubbing sessions in April 1981 when the song was selected by Tattoo You producer Chris Kimsey as one the band could re-work for the album."
Getting old ain't half bad. Compare this song to when they first released it, 1981. Loved it then. But this version is richer acoustically and deeper in soul. Stick around long enough, and watch what happens next.
Au contraire - this song was written many years before it was recorded and the guitar part was written and the tracks laid down by Mick Taylor before he left the group. It was recorded using (mick's tracks) many years later for the Tattoo album. Look it up!
@TheOldcountryboy yes..because mostly he compose song on a guitar with Keith on studio..but because he is so energetic on stage..it would limit his move with a guitar...plus..they have Ron Wood
Hey guys check out WOAF on the movie Lets spend the night together. It i think the best effort ever.Ronnie and Keith are in perfect cohesion with Micks vocals it is perfect. Its impossible to play the same song twice, i think.
Sorry i should clarify. Its impossible to play the same song the same way twice. Please check it out then comment either here or on that songs comments.ty.
I remember watching the MTV video, expressing how much I liked it to this (then) valley girl type. Thinking I was talking about the videoShe said "Ewwww but it's SO low budget."
We have all heard the saying, too many cooks in the kitchen. Have you ever wondered what it sounds like when their are too many guitarists on a stage? Here it is......All of the thumbs down are from musicians, all the thumbs up are from die hard stones fans
with your sentence structure I am guessing you are not an English teacher. Yes, I am a musician, play guitar, and drums. Owned a music store for 4 years. I think Obama is a dumb@$$. So You are not a teacher but you are good with your crystal ball. Except one thing, trolls are short, I am 6'2"
+davel8n - I agree with davel8n. i'm not a big Stones fan, but there a few tunes I like from them. They're way off on this one. One last point to Josh, what the hell does music have to do with your politics? And calling people. As my mom would say, "you're a mean rotten person". See you in hell, AH.
A reminder how horrible recent music is. Kesha? Gaga? Without auto tunes and other computer programs, they are mediocre. These guys made great music with regular voices and instruments.
Do you like oranges or apples?Chicken or fish?Lincolns or Cadillacs? Blondes or brunettes? Bach or Brahams? Laverne or Shirley? Physics or history? NBC or CBS? Cats or dogs? The letter S or the letter Z? Mets or Yankees? What is your favorite color? Number? Movie? Yeah, the Stones are better than the Beatles...no wait I mean The Beatles are better...no wait I like deathmetal...mmm....No chocolate is better than vanilla, the Stones, Led Zeppelin, and the Beatles put together. I do hate you tube!
The Stones were a mediocre band at best with a great front man, but it has to be admitted that they and their retinue wrote several dozens of fantastic songs. Soundwise, their live sound could never match the quality of their recordings, though the performances were entertaining. I was never a big fan, but looking back, I'll admit they recorded almost as many hit songs as the Beatles.
This song 🎵 is beautiful and amazing 🎉🎉. It takes me back to my youth of me hanging out with my best friend 🎉🎉

The Greatest Song for friendship all over the world..all the times..time for the STONES.

Lovely, just a lovely song...
Wonderful.

manca lo straordinario sax delle altre versioni!!!!!!!
This one is really fine.
2021
sweet
The problem is that Mick Taylor played the main guitar part on the original and that's hard to duplicate.

'I'm not waiting on a lady/ I'm just waiting on a friend' A slight correction.

History chanel
Mick Taylor was out of the band by the time of Tattoo You in 1981, ROn Wood took over in the mid 70s.
+Zach Horan MICK TAYLOR DID DO SOME GUST APPEASECES , SUCH AS IN KANASA CITY , ON ( LET ME GO ) IT IS ON THE TUBE
Yes but it was written in 73/4 and dusted down for Tattoo you later
@maeusesheriff whats wrong with this version??i think it's a good one!
The sax solo was really an integral part on this song...this dude messed it up pretty good.
Pretty sure the solo on the recording was done by Sonny Rollins... No way you can top him m8
It's his phrasing. This is not a good song live as many times as I have seen the stones. It doesn't have the drive as the original.

You've just re-defined "nothing", my friend...
Meaning what??
Walter Theodore "Sonny" Rollins - the great - he's not . . . but he never claimed to be, eh?
@sleep4 this band is nothing without Mick Taylor!
A reminder how horrible recent music is. Kesha? Gaga? Without auto tunes and other computer programs, they are mediocre. These guys made great music with regular voices and instruments.
Mick nunca la canta bien , no sé porqué
