@@sirgator8946 You are correct. Pure Vessel doesn't scream. Hollow Knight and Broken Vessel have the same scream, and I think watcher knights also have the same one. The thing that proves it's the radiance, however, is the cutscene after pantheon 4, where a light from above (the radiance) does the exact same scream
Fun fact: if you track the amount of active Hollow Knight players on steam, you can see that the number has gone up consistently since release. sure there are ups and downs, but looking at the big picture, the game has seen 5 consecutive years of growth. Which is simply insane for single player games. Or any game really
"How does it make sense that the King built his palace outside his capital". Bug Hives usually don't have a queen standing in the middle where most of their workers pass through. They are generally off to the side/below the center, perfectly where Team Cherry put the White Palace.
What if it was something like Versailles? The king made his palace away from the center of population to separate himself from his subjects and make his palace and lifestyle gain some sort of heaven-like aspect in the minds of their subjects, like the king is literally a being that lives in a higher plane of existance.
I never took it as Void being 'good' and light being 'bad'. Thy are just two opposing forces of nature that battle against each other for dominance. Light reigned for a while and now it's the voids turn. But balance will always find a way. The Wyrm event may be the force as to why things shifted. It may well happen again in the future.
given the radiance's dominance over everything for such a long time, I doubt balance is natural or would happen on its own, but I agree that the forces are natural
So, about the Knight having or not intelligence... It's questionable, but I do think a particular secret boss holds the answer: Nosk. The description for Nosk says that it mimics the appearance of loved ones, out of one's memory, to lure out prey (this can be proven by Dreamnailing the bug corpses in the tunnels leading to it's arena) But when Nosk lures the Knight, they mimic you. This says much about how the Knight feels. They are alone in this world, and since bugs lose their memory once they stray too far from the kingdom, all the Knight knows is themselves when they reach the kingdom. But that changes... Once we go to the Godhome expansion. Meet Flying Nosk, during the Pantheon of Hallownest. This time, Nosk isn't mimicking the Knight... But it is mimicking Hornet. This shows, without words, that the Knight now formed some kind of bond with Hornet, as a parental or older sibling figure. Which in turn, means the Knight does have a mind and higher thought... Which in turn means that the "Sealing" endings all are kinda the worse endings, because the Infection WILL leak out again.
I believe it's mentioned that godhome has the strongest version of the bosses like pure vessel and abs rad This implies to me that flying Nosk is just the strongest version of nosk but I'm not completely sure.
10:11 I just realized THK is *CRAWLING!* They were using the nail to walk, and you can see their head at the top meaning they were heavily leaning forward!
1:11:25 If you're wondering, if you revisit the blue lake after sitting there with him, only his nail is standing in the ground. It isn't set in stone, but this most likely indicates that he is dead because: The sword file name is: "quirrel_death_nail" He mentions feeling his old age after removing monomons mask He leaves his sword behind, which is strange since he mentioned multipule time how important a nail is to it's owner. A populair theory is that he jumped in the lake and killed himself, which is what mossbag is refering to
Although that last part can’t exactly be true since Quirrel is a pillbug, and pillbugs have GILLS :D I’ve seen some theorize that he just…faded away, like blowing on a pile of dust Some hopeful people say he just left, but as you said that’s unlikely since he left his nail, though he could have just wandered off to get himself killed (unlikely) I’m not exactly sure what happened, but if Quirrel is biologically accurate, he definitely didn’t jump into the lake, or if he did he couldn’t have died in doing so.
@@Bubblegum-Cupcake Very late reply, but I personally think he died of old age, as he mentions his age in the last dialogue and the mask was keeping him young. So probably a natural death but fading away sounds a bit of magical for a pillbug lol
quirrel saying that the dead shouldn't be burdened with weapons when you first meet him, and that taking them from them is doing them a favour kinda foreshadows why only his nail is left
It's been basically speculated that godhome takes the entities from Hallownest and brings their essence into the pantheon, empowering them through devotion and dreams. Void is an ancient power, dwelling deep in these lands, much older than anything else. Instead of fighting Radiance inside the Hollow Knight's vessels' dream, it pulled radiance into this god-world and made it even stronger. But it wasn't only Radiance that was empowered - the void inside our little guy, the darkness coming from abyss, was as well. Also! One of things the vid forgets to ephasize is that the godhome endings DO NOT require you to ever face the dreamers. Meaning, you can create scenario where Quirrel still lives and Hornet's mother is still alive.
I think the while vessel intelligence thing is a bit more complicated than "you're dumb". - What it seems to amount to is, that the shades inhabiting the vessel control the vessel. I'm not sure if this is reasonable but you could even argue that the part about the void not being one singular unified mind connects to how you gotta defeat the previous shade to restore the vessel. It's basically the will of a failed shade against the will of the shade that currently inhabits the vessel, right? - It's also in the endings, when the vessel as such breaks. That's not you dying. That's you *the shade* breaking out from your hollow vessel body, I think
Void is a force for good only because it's the only way against another force that is light-based. Even PK acknowledges it as 'the power opposed', it's against him due to him being a light as well. The thing to note about the Dream No More ending is that once Rad is gone, all the Vessels have found peace, TK doesn't do anything more because the light is finally gone. But now we see in the Embrace the Void ending that even after Rad being defeated still, just in a different way, this new void being still persists even though there's no more light to fight against. So it still remains to be seen what the Shade Lord does next and what it wants.
I never took it as Void being 'good' and Light being 'bad'. They are just two opposing forces of nature that battle against each other for dominance and if left unchecked become a serious problem. Light reigned for a while and now it's the voids turn, so to speak. But balance will always find a way. The Wyrm event may be the force as to why things shifted. It may well happen again in the future if the Void loses control of things and light needs to shine again.
Honestly I don’t necessarily think the darkness is a good entity. As all things, balance is where things are best but if one side tips too much then that balance is thrown out of order
Yeah probably The Radiance was a divine entity that functioned as an opposing force to the void, or at least capable enough to compete even if it wasn't as strong. But she was forgotten and practically doomed to disappear, and in an effort of self-preservation she decided to simply control who is supposed to worship her, instead of having free-minded worshipers. Perhaps even using a method similar to what the void itself would do if it had no competition. In this way the void still remains unable to monopolize... everything that exists, and at the same time The Radiance makes sure that she continues to exist. The void in the state of being a huge cluster rather than a single entity or mind, would likely function as an infection but transform those infected into beings of the void while still retaining independence... or perhaps simply consume them to death. Unlike the entity that forms in the last 2 endings, a unified void and apparently a single mind, whose plans could be to become a hive mind infection or be a lethal infection, but this time being a single organized entity and perhaps with bigger plans than the mess it used to be. Of course, this is all just assumption.
Wow, is this a first for your channel? Happy to see you enjoyed the games enough to look at lore videos (^_^), thanks again for bringing us on your gaming journeys!
Quirrel killing himself is something that is heavily implied. After he fulfils his purpose of unlocking the seal on Monomon, you can find him at the blue lake and sit with him for a while. If you leave and come back, however, only his sword remains where he was. When you couple him leaving his sword behind with an earlier conversation you can have with him, where he suggests you take weapons from the corpses of bugs, as the dead have no need for such things, it becomes quite apparent that he is no longer alive.
I would be very much willing to see more reaction style content from you in the future regarding video games if you are up for that sort of thing as it's more casual. Game trailers, lore videos, stuff like that. Also notice that in the Pure Vessel fight the hallownight does not scream. It's the radiance that does all the boss fight screaming, as vessels don't have a voice.
I think this is the first video of its kind, would be down to see something similar for other series post-game, but I think this mostly came about because of the hidden lore with Hollow Knight. Would be kinda weird to do that with every game ya know? It totally made sense to have a post game part with Inscryption, that felt very natural, but it again falls in that same category.
I think there definately was something that was in deepnest... or at least was meant to be. Early trailers for HK showed a glimpse of a big multi-eyed monster in a dark room, that didn't make it to the game in that form. There's also the anti-climax of the "Distant villagers" being puppeted by unseen being or beings, which then abruptly cuts to just putting the player through a short maze and finding Herrah (the only Dreamer without a bossfight). ...And the fact that Silksong started out as DLC for the first game. My personal reading of this was that there was something planned there, but it was forced to be cut down severely for the release of the game, and it ended up in the backburner for post-launch support, because it was such an important area of the game to go messing around with, compared to something like the Zote and White Defender-battles. I think one of the motivators for a Hornet-DLC would have been to fill in that gap in Deepnest.
What a ride it was. This is like 6th full letsplay I have seen and still the game is great. Let's hope we all will live long enough for Silksong to be finished and released :D
Thanks for making this a reaction video! I know a lot of people don't want to make this kind of content because it's harder to meaningfully add to passive media as you watch it, but it's really fun watching you understand it all.
Mossbag has many other videos that cover smaller, more specific topics such as the nature of Zote etc. The reason that everyone was suggesting this one is because it is probably the most cohesive presentation of the greater 'lore' of the world compiled into one, excellent, video. His other content is also worth a watch if you're interested, maybe not worth a reaction video though, idk. The Silksong trailer is hype and yes, you probably would've been better off not watching it, the rest of us have had a giant Silksong-shaped hole in our souls for years now and you've joined the club. I just have to reiterate that I've watched probably 20 full playthroughs of HK (mostly out of love for the game and copium for Silksong taking forever) and I think yours is, hands-down, my favorite. I mostly wanted to see you react to the mossbag video because your own interpretations of things aligned SO close with a lot of what the community has sort of unofficially decided is canon. Your ability to look at all of the information and draw conclusions sets your playthrough apart from so many others. I wait with baited breath for the new game and with that, your new playthrough. :)
1:01:25 - If you think about it, every conscious bug (with the possible exceptions of Bardoon and Grimm) seems _devoted_ to something, be it relics, the perfection of their Nail, money or tribal code.
Regarding if Silksong is a Sequel or Prequel some people are undecided but there is good amount of evidence to suggest that SIlksong is a Sequel (in terms of Timeline) from some dialogue in the Silksong Demo. Edit: Of course I had to comment on this "This is Hornet's new girlfriend right? I love her already" Yes! Another Lacenet shipper!
Team cherry actually have talked about their takeaways from Mossbag and that they watch his videos to know the games lore, and take some ideas for Silksong
Love the video, still catching up on the rest of them in this series. I like your comment about the bugs' intelligence. Imelda and Cornifer entered Hollownest after the pale king died and have intelligence. Maybe that means that the pale king just boosted the intelligence of lesser bugs. We see the mantis and spider tribes were intelligent without the pale king's help as well.
If you liked the cryptic storytelling, atmosphere and exploration of Hollow Knight, you're probably also gonna like all the Fromsoft games(Dark Souls, Elden Ring etc.)
I think she said it in her QandA video that it's too hard for her to get into fromsoft games cuz of the backseaters. It would still be a treat she do an LP of those
go to the new game mode - godhome mode, there you can fight Pure Vessel without encountering it in the P4 - which you totally should do as it is arguably the best boss in the game
After quite a few lore videos, i've come to the conclusion that the wyrms' foresight is actually just the witnessing of self-fulfilling prophecies. All wyrms foresaw their demise, did everything they could to stop it, no matter the cost, and then uwittingly _caused_ said demise due to the ramifications of their actions.
Now you share the pain of the entire Hollow Knight fandom. We all are the Hollow Knight - trying to contain the hype for Silksong within us, and failing miserably.
I really enjoyed this whole play-through! Thanks for putting so much time into exploring all the different routes this game has to offer. I hope someday I'll have the time and resources to craft my world into something that can touch peoples hearts like this. Unfortunately all my previous work and prototypes have kinda flopped due to rushed development, and the covid situation has forced me to postpone further work until I can find a balance between the work I'm passionate about and the work that just barely pays my bills. Because of that, watching/playing content published by successful indie devs and their teams like this is always kind of bitter-sweet for me. But watching a streamer who's content I already enjoy play the game to its extent made it much more sweet than bitter this time around. So thanks again Welonz!
19:29 And create a time paradox? If the wyrm could see it happening with the prescience then maybe it was fated to happen. Like this isn't one of those cases where future vision is used to change the future, this is one of those cases where future vision is used to make us wallow in the despair of our inevitable demise. I don't know, that's just how I think the wyrm future sight worked.
So here's a breakdown of the multiple forms the Knight can take. - From the start, there's nothing very special about them. Godhome will describe a statue of them if they've beaten all the bosses in the Hall of Gods at the lowest difficulty as 'not bug, nor beast, nor god'. - With Voidheart, they become 'Lord of Shades', as described by the Ancient Civilisation bug that holds up the bowl of flowing void. It's considered they're now a higher being since they have control over void now after having united it. The AC bug understands this since them and the other AC bugs worshipped void, but not a specific being since Void had never been united before. And now the knight has the potential to become: - Void Given Form, as described when they beat the bosses at middle difficulty alongside with a statue depicting the form the Knight's shade takes when it breaks out of the shell before killing Radiance the normal way through The Hollow Knight, with those tendrils coming off the back. TK needs to 'die' for this since the shade had to come out. If you doubt TK's HB status when they just have Voidheart, don't think you will be now. It takes a HB to defeat another HB. - And finally, Void Given Focus. The statue depicts the 8-eyed void being you saw kill Abs Rad, the community also calls it Shade Lord more commonly. This came about through Godseeker attuning to TK now, hence 'focus'.
@@807D14M0ND5 Voidheart proves they have a will. They're their own person so doesn't seem right to refer to them as 'it'. White Lady call them it only because she's mistaken about their purity as well, their will means that TK doesn't meet the Pale King's requirement for a pure Vessel.
The one thing I didn't comment on the gameplay videos was that the Knight to be considered as a person/individual. Vessel of god-like entity is more like a robot/android, but from the flesh of the god with added Void. As the Void Idol changes names "Void given form" and "Void given focus" I'm led to beleive the Pale King is remotely controlling the Knight. The Dreamers, the Seer and the Knight can go in/out the dream realm, so the King may have put the palace (along with his body and belongings) there to secretly access the Knight? Seeing the future and the possibilities could lead to different outcomes/endings.
This lore video also has a lot of humour in it. South Australia / South Africa, Super Metroid giving the "vania" part of "metroidvania", etc. It's a great one.
Nice, I had seen the requests for this (like on every single part lol) but didn't expect you would do it tbh, that was very cool in the end! I feel like there are still as many questions left unawswered at the end of the video than there was at beginning, but it's all good. Personally I'm fine with a story being full of mysteries and questions left unsolved as long as the general feeling is it's all somehow coherent, which Hollow Knight does pretty well.
@Materwelonz Out of curiosity, have you seen or heard about the Path of Pain or The Eternal Ordeal? The Path of Pain is a souped up version of the White Palace jump quest and has a significant lore dump at the end. The Eternal Ordeal is basically a hidden horde mode in Godhome where you fight an endless amount of Zotes in different variations. When you get to a certain point in The Endless Ordeal, I can't remember if it's by time survived or amount of kills, but you get an Easter Egg main menu with Zote annoyingly singing and a silhouette of Zote in the background. Also, Mossbag mentioned the lore drop you get at the end of the Path of Pain, (A memory "hidden away" in the White Palace). However I think it'd be interesting... And maybe a little funny to hear what you think of the Path of Pain itself, since the White Palace was already difficult.
There’s is a lot to say bout this video, and really interesting to see you do a reaction to the lore. Anyways this was fun to see you react to how the lore fits together^^ Also I wanna say, I find it funny that even you already agree with the majority of the fandom that hornet and the boss from silk song are GFs before ya see them talk with each other. It’s honestly surprising how fast people call them rivals-to-lovers GFs in less than a minute of screen time, not that I’m complaining ^^
Some more Hornet lore: Hornet was actually deeply connected to the three queens of Hallownest. Herrah the Beast birthed her. Never got a chance to spend time with her though. The White Lady raised her as her own child. Herrah was already in a coma so she was the one who took care of Hornet growing up. The Hive Queen Vespa trained her in combat. This is why her name is "Hornet" and uses a spear (to sting, get it?) despite being a spider/higher being hybrid herself.
The connection to the Hive Queen makes sense how you put it, but I've never seen that mentioned before. Is there evidence for that in the game anywhere other than speculation based on the name and the needle?
It's actually Hornet's backstory when the game was still in kickstarter, but it didn't end up inside the game itself for some reason. Maybe the Team didn't include it in the final cut to not overcomplicate things, for example how did Hornet get trained by Vespa when the Hive was supposed to have shut itself off from the rest of Hallownest. Hornet's moves are very similar to how a hornet fights. She even has the same needlebomb that the Hive Knight also uses.
Really great video, Welonz! Since you're a history-focused youtuber, it's super nice seeing your reactions to the lore and, well, actually try to understand it! Many youtubers play the game but don't really put that much effort into trying to understand what exactly is going on, so seeing you follow everyone's advice and actually publish your reactions to this hour-long video is pretty dope! Also, I could feel your excitment when watching the Silksong trailer, and that got me super excited as well again, but I guess now we just gotta suffer for undefined amount of time haha. One thing that I just keep thinking about silksong is how big the game is gonna be. Like, not many people think about this, but when a developer creates a game for the first time, a good part of their time is for creating the basic systems and tools to help creating the rest of the game, but when this game gets a continuation... They already did most of that, so what remains is to create the actual game. Of course, Silksong will have a lot of new mechanincs, but still... Just thinking about how long they're taking to create it ON TOP of what they already created for the base Hollow Knight Game... It just feels like it's gonna be a gigantic game, even bigger than HK itself. Thinking like this just makes me extremely excited!
Vessels are basically reanimated corpses that are the offspring of the White Lady and the Pale King; remember those eggs in the Abyss? They were dropped in there for void to seep into them and replace the insides of their unborn children(one of Monomon's tablets talks about this). It's one of the reasons why Hornet is *the* Gendered Child; she's the only one of the Pale King's offspring to be gendered. All the other Vessels are gender-neutral. It also means Vessels can't grow, they're just corpses after all. The Hollow Knight (THK) is the exception most likely due to the magic of either White Lady or Pale King (some think the White Lady had a hand in it because of her suspicion her power is making things grow, with her behind the heavy vegetation in the gardens and Marmu saying she would give them wings). Some bring up Broken Vessel and say they're slightly bigger as proof they can grow, but the thing is that when you compare their head size to the other corpses in the Abyss, it's still the same size. Even then, you could easily just chalk that up to natural variation in the size of them when they were gestating in the eggs before void seeped in.
Fun fact: the Menderbug diary is read by Relyea, Rusty (the other two in the Hollow Knight content triumvirate) and Vaatividya (the world's FromSoftware High Priest)
I never saw the Void as Good or bad. It's darkness and the end of all things. The Godseekers wanted something to worship and bit off more than they could chew.
Pleasantly surprised with another Hollow Knight video, I appreciate this as a way to clear up some of the questions I personally had about the lore. I'm looking forward to seeing you play silksong when it comes out! In the meantime, I'm sure you've got more games in the backlog to record, but I wanted to ask if you'd heard of/played Elsinore? It's a timeloop mystery game set within the play Hamlet, where you play as Ophelia, Hamlet's childhood friend and ex-lover. I thought it was a really interesting introduction to/deconstruction of the whole play with some interesting themes about otherness and personal identity and how they affect the way people relate to you. The puzzles and experience of teasing out all the little mysteries was also a lot of fun, and I'd definitely be interested to see how you approach them. Just a suggestion, do what you want with it. See you in another series!
Ooh, neat! A lot of this lines up with what I've gleaned from my own playthroughs of the game, but also adds other details I wasn't aware of or hadn't considered. It's nice to see your take on it too, Welonz. :) 16:16 Yeah... that's the nailsmith. When he tells you to cut him down with the pure nail, if you do it, his dead body turns up in the Junk Pit. Kind of an undignified way to go... but if you dream nail his corpse, he says "pure." 22:14 No, there actually is a fourth (broken) throne there, which is theorized to be (formerly) the Traitor Lord's throne. 1:22:17 I haven't won it, but I have seen bits of other people playing through it, and yeah, it's a heck of an endurance run. I don't know if I want to do all the work it would take to complete it.
In regards to intelligence, I don't think there are any magical properties the Pale King had that artificially raised it, but rather it came about naturally due to simply living in a society as opposed to in the wilds. None of the bugs lost their intelligence because the king died, but some did due to being infected. There were already communities living in the area that would become Hallownest that show intelligence, the Pale King's kingdom just offered an even higher standard of living. The higher the standard of living, the more intelligent a population.
I think the important thing you missed in this video is that intelligence/higher thought ≠ genius. The bugs weren't necessarily super smart because of the pale king, they just gained the ability to _think_ in the first place.
Hey. I recently found your channel and just finished your Hollow Knight series. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing! And yeah... the Silk Song wait continues more than two years later. :(
nice thanks for the whole serie, and really nice to finish with this video It was a blast I would have loved that you spent a few more minutes in the end talking about your final thoughts/and feeling or even critic about the game, how much you enjoyed it etc. Feels like it's always a bit lacking in your series cheers
Uhh.. I guess you didn't know this Welonz, and I feel kinda bad for telling you this now, but Quirrel is dead. After defeating Monomon, you can meet him one final time at the Blue Lake (he had always wanted to visit the source of the rain in the City), which I think you did. But if you re-enter the room you can find his sword with Quirrel nowhere in sight, it's implied he drowned himself after living two lives.
@@Welonz To further drive the implications of him drowning himself, he says something along the lines of "it's suicide to leave your nail behind" on one of the occasions you see him, which is exactly what he does at the blue lake.
There's nothing to suggest he drowned, just that he died since he felt all the years that passed since he left finally catching up to him. He most likely faded away like Ze'mer does. It's real silly to say he just jumped into the lake and sunk, why would he do something like that if he already feels his time is about to run out?
I shamelessly copied this "lore theory" from a comment somewhere else: Zote was actually the first vessel, and he is the reason why all subsequent vessels don't have mouths.
Debunked by Zote being gendered, along with multiple stuff like having brothers, having come from another kingdom, no void coming out upon being hit, having a cloak that's not naturally part of his body, etc...
Also, how would Pale King determine specific characteristics of Vessels? Like Welonz pointed out, they're not science experiments. The eggs they were in were left in the Abyss, that's the only thing the Pale King and White Lady had a hand in.
i read a comment in one of mossbag's video that I found interesting, that being the pale king's dialogue; "no cost too great" may also be referring to himself. that his disposition to elevate the bug minds is his ultimate woe and the reason why the hollow knight is not "hollow". Since just by spending time with the pale king, the hollow knight gains a will of its own. after knowing this, the pale king sealed himself thoroughly, trying to minimize his natural disposition. that this act itself is a "cost" for the eternal kingdom. but who knows really. for a being that has a precognitive ability, maybe all of this is planned. maybe he was just playing 4d chess while we are stuck at playing mahjong. or maybe he is just not that great either. and about "the knight" being a pure vessel, yeah, maybe it is a pure vessel because the player was the one controlling it, not that it has a will of its own. kinda like deltarune/undertale meta storytelling. phew, all in all, thank you welonz for playing this game, it was such a blast to see it almost every day for this past few months
That's definitely not the case, he says it again during the birth place memory. Also, why do so many people expect Hollow Knight to go meta and acknowledge the player? No, this isn't undertale. The player isn't canon. The Knight's actions are their own, especially demonstrated by Voidheart that confirms they have a will. It's ridiculous to imply that playable characters in any game are actually just 'vessels' (yes, the irony) for players. The Knight clearly had done stuff on their own leading up to coming back to Hallownest. How would their will get overridden when they come back?
My best guess is that because Ghost became the _DARKEST VOID INCARNATE_ in Godhome they bypassed the Hollow Knight allowing him to be free of the Radiance when the plague was destroyed with her.
Just finished watching your playthru. There are some loose ends that you didn't see or mention that you may want to check out. Path of pain is extremely hard core platforming challenge hidden in the white palace. Also, there are some really neat extra bosses added in that last pantheon. Even if you don't want to play it, I'd recommend watching a video of it. Also, there is a cool zote section in godhome that is very hidden.
I noticed you hate the pale king a lot, I wonder why? Cuz in my understanding of the lore he was just desperate to avoid the death of his kingdom and people, and in a roundabout way he did manage to make something capable of dealing with the radiance

The thing that proves it's the radiance, however, is the cutscene after pantheon 4, where a light from above (the radiance) does the exact same scream
@@phantasmalflight3896 also I think the radiance does that scream in its boss fight
He dose actually

I believe it's mentioned that godhome has the strongest version of the bosses like pure vessel and abs rad
This implies to me that flying Nosk is just the strongest version of nosk but I'm not completely sure.
10:11 I just realized THK is *CRAWLING!*
They were using the nail to walk, and you can see their head at the top meaning they were heavily leaning forward!
Didnt even realize Hornet uses a buzzsaw in the Silksong trailer, seems to run in the family
1:11:25 If you're wondering, if you revisit the blue lake after sitting there with him, only his nail is standing in the ground. It isn't set in stone, but this most likely indicates that he is dead because:
The sword file name is: "quirrel_death_nail"
He mentions feeling his old age after removing monomons mask
He leaves his sword behind, which is strange since he mentioned multipule time how important a nail is to it's owner.
A populair theory is that he jumped in the lake and killed himself, which is what mossbag is refering to
Although that last part can’t exactly be true since Quirrel is a pillbug, and pillbugs have GILLS :D
I’ve seen some theorize that he just…faded away, like blowing on a pile of dust
Some hopeful people say he just left, but as you said that’s unlikely since he left his nail, though he could have just wandered off to get himself killed (unlikely)
I’m not exactly sure what happened, but if Quirrel is biologically accurate, he definitely didn’t jump into the lake, or if he did he couldn’t have died in doing so.
"I shouldn't have watch this" ONE OF US! ONE OF US! Thanks for the reaction and the whole let's play ... Now the countdown for Silk Song continues
"Not just because the King was a cheating loser" cracked me up so hard
Same
Void is a force for good only because it's the only way against another force that is light-based.
How is Welonz so perfectly in tune with the HK community? It’s absolutely hilarious.
"we don't know what's protecting Herrah" maybe *the entirety of Deepnest*? that place pretty much *is* the boss fight
(i love deepnest, best area)
Grimm is devoted to the nightmare heart
@@hasargel I said "possible". To me it's not clear what Grimm himself actually thinks, and he may be strong enough to stave off Radiance on his own.
"maybe silksong will release in 1 or 2 years?"
nah
Team cherry actually have talked about their takeaways from Mossbag and that they watch his videos to know the games lore, and take some ideas for Silksong
Love the video, still catching up on the rest of them in this series.
I like your comment about the bugs' intelligence. Imelda and Cornifer entered Hollownest after the pale king died and have intelligence. Maybe that means that the pale king just boosted the intelligence of lesser bugs. We see the mantis and spider tribes were intelligent without the pale king's help as well.
I agree, that's probably what it means. They didn't have cities and trams after all.
It would still be a treat she do an LP of those
Or not -- the gameplay's pretty different. :P
go to the new game mode - godhome mode, there you can fight Pure Vessel without encountering it in the P4 - which you totally should do as it is arguably the best boss in the game
I love that Welonz started shipping Lace with Hornet the moment she saw her.
The excitement in my heart when I see you actually doing a reaction video for Hollow Knight lore! YAAAAAAS!!! PRAISE BE TO MOSSBAG
So much fun to watch the lore video every time! Glad you got to see it!
"I shouldn't have watched this, cause now I wanna play."
The people who watched this in Feb 2019 when it released, simultaneously feeling chest pains.
And now the knight has the potential to become:
- Void Given Form, as described when they beat the bosses at middle difficulty alongside with a statue depicting the form the Knight's shade takes when it breaks out of the shell before killing Radiance the normal way through The Hollow Knight, with those tendrils coming off the back.
Why not just use "it" instead of they and them. That reads so much easier.
@@807D14M0ND5 Voidheart proves they have a will. They're their own person so doesn't seem right to refer to them as 'it'. White Lady call them it only because she's mistaken about their purity as well, their will means that TK doesn't meet the Pale King's requirement for a pure Vessel.
@@AJ-uf4sh it is called it because it has no gender, that's all
@@807D14M0ND5 You can use they/it on it, whatever pronouns someone uses on them shouldn't bother you as long as they're the correct ones.
@@Eborsnaesch1010 You *are* aware that 'they' is also gender neutral, yes? I really hope you wouldn't call someone who's gender neutral 'it'.
"This looks fun though."
This boss took hours of my life and my life and soul.
Face him and you will know true pain
The one thing I didn't comment on the gameplay videos was that the Knight to be considered as a person/individual. Vessel of god-like entity is more like a robot/android, but from the flesh of the god with added Void. As the Void Idol changes names "Void given form" and "Void given focus" I'm led to beleive the Pale King is remotely controlling the Knight.
The Dreamers, the Seer and the Knight can go in/out the dream realm, so the King may have put the palace (along with his body and belongings) there to secretly access the Knight?
Seeing the future and the possibilities could lead to different outcomes/endings.
the hollow knight is so much bigger than you because according to the hunter's journal he was raised and trained to prime form while you aren't
This lore video also has a lot of humour in it. South Australia / South Africa, Super Metroid giving the "vania" part of "metroidvania", etc. It's a great one.
When the moss is bag
Team Cherry did comment on mossbag before, they said they just watch his videos to understand the lore of their games
Excited to hear what you make of it since it's quite open ended even after scraping the depths...
RIP Quirrel
Ayeeeeee I’m glad you’re looking at the stuff you didn’t cover and the lore.
That's such a good way to top off this entire journey!
There’s is a lot to say bout this video, and really interesting to see you do a reaction to the lore. Anyways this was fun to see you react to how the lore fits together^^
Also I wanna say, I find it funny that even you already agree with the majority of the fandom that hornet and the boss from silk song are GFs before ya see them talk with each other. It’s honestly surprising how fast people call them rivals-to-lovers GFs in less than a minute of screen time, not that I’m complaining ^^
Some more Hornet lore:
Hornet was actually deeply connected to the three queens of Hallownest.
@@DarkNexus530 Team cherry planned for the hive to be next to deepnest before moving it to kingdoms edge, so it made a little more sense
Yessss fall further into the Hollow Knight Mossbag rabbit hole!
Welcome to the waiting of Silksong, welcome to the despair of waiting.
Also, this comment was made before the start of her watching Mossbag's vid, so some of this already got addressed, oops lol
thank you, again, for sharing the joy and your excitement. what a pleasure to watch
Mossbag and Materwelonz in one video?? This is the best day ever!!!

Nice ending video to this amazing let's play... and welcome in the silksong waiting room
More Welonz and hollow knight, today is a win
I never saw the Void as Good or bad. It's darkness and the end of all things. The Godseekers wanted something to worship and bit off more than they could chew.
Wow, I didnt expect you to actually do that but Im glad you did
You need to look up Sisters of battle. You missed it. It's only on the last Patheon. One of the best fights in the game
I really love the format of this video. You reacting to videos and stuff is really entertaining
AAAAAAHH! I forgot Vaati makes an appearance in the video. BEST CROSSOVER EVER!
With Silksong coming you can bet the community will only get bigger and bigger
Ooh, neat! A lot of this lines up with what I've gleaned from my own playthroughs of the game, but also adds other details I wasn't aware of or hadn't considered. It's nice to see your take on it too, Welonz. :)
16:16 Yeah... that's the nailsmith. When he tells you to cut him down with the pure nail, if you do it, his dead body turns up in the Junk Pit. Kind of an undignified way to go... but if you dream nail his corpse, he says "pure."
22:14 No, there actually is a fourth (broken) throne there, which is theorized to be (formerly) the Traitor Lord's throne.
1:22:17 I haven't won it, but I have seen bits of other people playing through it, and yeah, it's a heck of an endurance run. I don't know if I want to do all the work it would take to complete it.
never have i been this excited for reaction content before
It's just noticed that vaatividia is present on the video, as one of the narrators for menderbug's diary!
"this is hornets new girlfriend right?" glad we all agree to this
its been 2 years since this video, and yes we're still waiting T^T

Yay you watched it! I have something awesome to listen to now while I work, thank you so much.

Does anyone else notice that the video was sped up by just a bit while she was watching it
Happy to know you enjoyed the game!
WHAT...............
@@Cat-pw5qr What he exactly said was that the dead have no use for weapons. He never talked about suicide or actively killing yourself.
@@AJ-uf4sh Devs would've animated his death then.
Lovely video Welonz and loved the playthrough! You can be sure I'll be back when you start playing Silksong.
Thanks this was an experience.
Great video reaction!
I noticed you hate the pale king a lot, I wonder why? Cuz in my understanding of the lore he was just desperate to avoid the death of his kingdom and people, and in a roundabout way he did manage to make something capable of dealing with the radiance
