This was my first "official" stream, and there was a lot more viewers than I anticipated so in all honesty I was pretty nervous and scatterbrained 😅 So apologies for struggling to balance reading chat + giving commentary + understanding the lore, but I hope it was still entertaining to some degree. Evidence of Quirrel passing away is his voiceline: "Plenty have come before us and most have met their grisly end, many more equipped than you and I. I'm sure they wouldn't mind were a fellow explorer to relieve them of their tools. It's a kindness really. The dead shouldn't be burdened with such things." He mentions that the dead don't need tools or weapons and that they should not be burdened with them. Him leaving his nail at the Blue Lake likely signifies he no longer wants to be burdened with it and thus wants pass away.
Since you kept talking over one of the most important explanations and then even asked being confused about it: The ending where Hornet gets trapped is pretty good, because now the infection is held forever, since Hornet became a dreamer who is located INSIDE the temple. That means no other knight can ever attempt to open the eggs like you did, since the dreamer blocking the egg gate is not outside to be found and killed.
One thing to keep in mind with the Pale King is that we only get info of him from people living after his “failed” plan, as multiple endings involve the eradication of the Radiance, the king also mainly sacrifices himself and those truly loyal to him. The dreamers all willingly sacrifice themselves, the king sacrifices his children over others, and he himself died by the void in his throne room. His death can mean ether he willingly gave himself to the void; likely to pull out character back to hollownest as we seem to be the only one to actually stop the Radiance, he could have continued to work on the void seeking a new solution, or he simply died hiding. He is not a good person or a paragon of virtue, but he did try to save his kingdom over his own survival and was trapped between making a choice he regretted or sacrificing everything he work on to the Radiance.
My headcanon is that the void is just petroleum oil and those bugs were to nest on a petrol source. 😂😂 And starting are literally looks like an opening of an ant nest

48:25 The lighthouse needs to be turned on because if you try to cross the abyss without its light shining over the lake, there are 'void' tentacles that rise from it and hit you. When the light shines over it though, the tentacles disappear, almost as if the light tamed the void. After that you can cross to the other side and explore. I am not sure if the void tentacles are from creatures that stay near the surface and try to snatch stuff from above, or if its simply a natural reaction that occurs when a 'living being' or maybe a being with Soul comes close to it.
You mentioned that you kinda wanted to play some more Metroidvanias, and so I really recommend the two Ori games :) Ori and the Blind Forest is the first one and it's a little older than Hollow Knight. Probably one of my all time favorite games. Ori and the Will of the Wisps is also amazing, and it took a lot of inspiration from Hollow Knight in some areas. They're a really fun playthrough and the story made me cry.

Mossbag has tons of videos detailing other components of Hollow Knight, including the Grimm Troupe and Godhome. Speaking of Doki Doki Literature Club, it's certainly an emotional rollercoaster. Would recommend, but only if you have a strong will. Great video as always, cant wait to see more from you :D
Really wished I was in the livestream for this! It was fun seeing you try to understand everything fully. The beginning it’s talking about the civilization of each bug to give you more depth of them. But you understood most of it. Also, 10000% you can beat P5. Your strongest skill is your determination and perseverance you have to beat the bosses. Do not fear it tho! You can do it, and if you think you need help. (Hint, try to do some binding for p1-p4 and look around for something new to happen) Anndd… rip Menderbug 😔 (and quirrel)
Don’t worry, Quirrel isn’t dead. He’s just retiring to live in the spirit’s glade. We don’t see him for the rest of the game because he’s napping, same as Cornifer. Quirrel travels as much as Cornifer and fights a jellyfish, so he can nap for a long time too
Unfortunately I cannot. However, Cloth provides more support to my argument. She says she’s ready to move on, and she still came back as a spirit. Quirrel did not. If Quirrel was dead he’d be a ghost by the blue lake
Have u played celeste? If u love platforming in games it has THE BEST controls in any 2D and prob even 3D game ever. Plus the music and story’s amazing
If you want other good metroidvanias I'd recommend Ori and the blind forest and Ori and the will of the wisps. They are both very good and the first has more of a focus on movement than combat and the later has improved combat and is overall a lot more similar to Hollow Knight. They have a bash ability that is one of the best and fun movement mechanics ever.
since ur done with the game heres a lil ol game that i think u might like its called grounded u are shrunk down to the sice of an ant and u must survive the harsh climate of a backyard

To open the room with Knight’s statue, you need to see the Radiance in fifth pantheon, and then you can train beating her in Hall of Gods. Once you kill her in Hall of Gods, the statue of the Knight appears in the bottom, in the left corner of Hall of Gods. Beating the Radiance in the Hall of Gods with different difficulty opens another appearances of the Knight’s statue.

Something I think Mossbag didn't think about in the section talking about if the Hollow Knight (that is the player character) is truly hollow is that it IS... it has no will of it's own. Because it's being controlled by YOU. By the player. The Knight isn't moving around of it's own free will. You dictate it's every action and interaction. You make the choices for it. The Knight truly is Hollow, with no will of it's own, the moment it steps into Hallownest. The only actions it takes on it's own are those at the very start of the game, when it approaches the city. The moment it's within the bounds of influence, you take over. It's mind is blank and without memory. The knight is truly hollow, with no will of it's own.
Is there... Any evidence that the player is canon? Like I'm being serious here. Undertale literally has canon save mechanics and people still argue if we are canon. The only game I recall where it's certain is OneShot, and the player is called out explicitly as a god and has to manipulate files to progress.
It has no will but it has a purpose it acts out. Almost like a robot. A robot follows code without will. It does whatever to finish it's purpose and what it is made to do
