That book they find on Mulder's nightstand is a callback to my all-time favorite X-Files episode, "Jose Chung's From Outer Space", in which author "Jose Chung", played brilliantly by Charles Nelson Riley, writes an eloquent but rather sad and not altogether flattering book about the agents and their work. Yep, it's pretty representative of the TV programme. Every episode one of the main characters gets fired for shooting their colleague and/or mildly annoying a motel receptionist by overuse of a bell.
I am shocked how much of this game came rushing back with only a few scenes. Those 90s memories are still there waiting for a prompt, now time to watch some TV episodes.
