We've heard of yet another train derailment & yesterday I saw a short Biden of a man who discovered a "derailment device" on the tracks near his home. Can you share your take on all of this?? I'd appreciate hearing from someone who knows that world of trains. 😊
@@jammerjen5504 Derailers are pretty common around yards, or anywhere else you don't want train cars getting loose. They upset the wheels just enough to set them on the ground, they won't cause a train to roll over half way through its journey.
I found a black gold nugget a couple weeks back. Almost threw it in my lead bucket. Even the local prospecting shop told me it wasn’t gold. Got home and acid tested it. Sure enough it’s gold. Soaked it in acid for a couple minutes and it cleaned up beautifully :)
Great video Dan. I love watching you on the hunt for gold. You are never a failure. And I'm really enjoying your bits of wisdom with your geology lessons for the day. I hope 2023 is that fantastic year for you!
Black Gold is the name of a famous City here in Brazil (Ouro Preto) due to the fact that there was a lot of this kind of gold when the place was discovered by explorers called "Bandeirantes" in the XVIII century.
We have rockhunts that surprise us often, when we expected to find very little. Those days are pretty exciting! Then other times, we just can't find anything worth taking home. It is always fun looking though! And I'm with you on needing to get back into shape after the long winter. 😅
I'm loving the #GLOTD you're now doing. While I know most of things you're explaining, it's always nice to have a simple reminder. Keep up the great work Dan!
I loved this video. Not a failure. I especially love the sounds of rocks being moved, shoveled, tossed into that machine. And running water. Very satisfying and calming. I could probably fall asleep to it.
It's great that you got to connect with Brent down in Cerro Gordo. He's sure got the ole Spirit when it comes to that Ghost Town. I hope he's able to find a vain so he can finance the updates he wants to do in the town. Great video Dan, keep 'em coming!
I hear ya there Dan, it's been a very indoor winter for me and I get winded checking the mail haha. I've been getting back in shape aerating my lawn and panning out the core plugs just for fun, as I do have black sands and flour gold in my yard.
Great show, dano. Im gonna make my way out towards hope and yale again. Love the mtns, and the fraser river is so epic. Panning is good, and plus, i can cast a line for the elusive stergon at the same time.
I can't think of the Fraser river without thinking of the song "Northwest Passage" by Stan Rogers. Anyway, regardless of how you feel, you're not a failure, and I will watch literally every single video you make whether you find stuff or not!
I’ve found same. Was collecting magnetite to smelt iron. Started finding gold when crushing magnetite. I’ve read that gold dissolved with manganese precipitates out of solution when iron oxides are encountered.
Nothing is strange Dan. You sure know your rivers, how they run. Reading the rock's. You are always entertaining and educational, plus funny as well. Thanks Dan. Regards 🇿🇦.
Hi Dan! Thx for taking us on another beautiful adventure ... question for ya: would the moss on the rocks possibly have trapped pieces of gold too?? My hubs & I both enjoy your content ... you certainly are a gem to watch! 👍
Dan, Just a suggestion: When you show the pieces in the pan closeup could you put in a penny or a clear ruler so the viewer can get a perspectivie of the sizes of the pieces you are looking at? Thanks for making these videos, it is amazing what is under a rock!

It's bad for the soul and overall sense of well-being. Positive feedback will make you feel positive!!
Who knew that having trash on a beach could be useful. Him getting a clue that someone else had already been through the gravel due to there being no lead and stuff is amazing.
You should head to Wisconsin sometime and go hang out on the beach with Jason the Mason from Flour Gold Wizards.. You won't see any big gold at all, but I'm sure you'd get plenty of flour and put him to shame :P They've also got some places with some really cool minerals around the great lakes.
Dan, add a shirt line on your highlander with a split ! End of on split will be short to hook your hose to that end ! Run the other to the other end and a way to use one or the other ! With this addition you can run the highlander either direction by hooking your water input to which ever end to position it the way you want and you will never have to load from the back again !
Hi Dan! First time we saw black gold like that was here in Stanton Arizona. We saw it in the pan behaving like gold and were completely at a loss. Finally we spoke to an older miner from this area and he said this area was known for that! Who knew? Thanks for sharing :-)
Definitely not a failure. I never knew there was gold that was "black". Makes me want to go up to Hope and Yale on the recreational spots and try some panning.
It's the same in middle Montana, weather wise. Spring is quite near, but not yet. I found a great many 'holes' dug into the ground at what seemed to be random spots in the Pioneer mountains hunting elk. I found out these holes were probes by miners. I was near Bannack, Mt.
interesting, this black gold, dan hurd is the only gold related channel i follow and he pops up with a video about just after i randomly saw a guy vacuum a bunch of gold in a river that also had it and he didnt know gold could be like that 😅 great timing now i know more about this black/brown gold

Strangely Dan i get the feeling there would be another band of paygold near the treeline, dont know why but i get the feeling that in times past the water was up that way a lot until some blockage or another moved downstream lowering the rivers level ....
I live in the Klondike, and here, Hunker Creek has lots of black gold, and dark gold as well. Bonanza Creek, on the other hand, has lots of quartz with the gold, which of course can explode when it is heated! So, jewellers have to know where the nuggets come from, although most can tell just by looking at them. Every creek has its own kind of gold.
Thanx for all the information again. Question to Dan Hurd: You think the waterpressure on your mashine might be a bit to high, so could be that some big flakes are flushed out ? I`m not an expert in Goldmining,... I don t know better, just askin.... like your videos very much
Dan, on the subject of alloys. I had a friend who's father mined manganese out of the foot hills of Arkansas. He always carried a gold nugget Zippo lighter. The story was he Got it in Nevada but could the nuggets actually have come from the manganese mines? I understand no one will ever really know, but it would make sense why he was addament on mining "manganese "
Hey Dan, that black gold will stand out on/in that beard for sure! lol! No salting with that gold! Lol!.... you'll get in shape at Brent's Cerro Gordo lol!😅 Enjoy...
What a beautiful day it was for you! I was fearing you were going to crush a finger while moving those big stones! I keep thinking if I were with you and we weren't finding gold I would break out a fishing pole.
Hi Dan! I watched another gold prospector that said the moss on rocks acts like the carpets in a sloughs. I see a lot of moss on the rocks in your area. Scrape that moss off and wash it in your pan. You may find gold that way.

The day being a failure does not make you a failure, good sir. You inspire and entertain many with or without the gold!
For $5 you could attach an adjustable bubble level to the gold hog and be able set the bank angle the same every time.
I'm sorry the railroad keeps ruining your plans Dan. They ruin mine every day. I'm a locomotive engineer.

50% HNO3?

Had a case of the winter blues and this video helped to get rid of them...went for a walk in the sun...great vid ...keep them coming Dan !!!!
I really enjoy it when you add geology lessons. It's always so fascinating.
Dan there is no way possible for you to be a failure ever, you sir are a wonderful prospector! Thank you for all your videos!!
Thank you for sharing a beautiful day on the Fraser with us. I'm ready for camping in Montana this summer.
A crap pan for Dan would be excellent in Ontario, thinking I should move to BC !

Like Jeff Williams says: “Who needs a gym? Just be a gold miner!”

Thanks for the very enjoyable video. What beautiful country you come across all the time. Have a good one, and TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOUR HEART!!!
The beautiful nature shots in your videos make watching them worth it on their own! Cheers from Denmark for making, & uploading, your videos :)
Now I want to know the exception to the "no pure gold" rule.
