    I use different farm maps for different play styles. Forest, riverlands and standard for challenges. Beach farm for a beachy themed perfection farm with loads of blobfish fish ponds. Four corners for being a sheperd. Meadowlands for just marrying a npc, often a modded one. Hilltop farm for playing with Ridgeside village mod. And Wilderness for just fooling around.

    Wow, since I've started playing with the Riverlands farm it's actually become my favourite, and I tend to play on it unless I want more farming space. By the time you need more farming space, you have ginger island, plus I use the desert and spa areas for tree farming. The bonus fish smoker is so helpful, from the very beginning. Love your videos, congrats on the 2000 subs.

      The fish smoker and the fact that the fishing is decent and bubbles spawn frequently on the farm are huge benefits. If you are going for a year one Legend or Master Fisherman it's a must.

    Since I first started playing, I've always been a fan of Hilltop farm. I know it's not good for space, but the cliffs and stairs are cool to me. Meadowlands has replaced Forest challenge runs since you can now eat mayo for energy. I do disagree about 4 Corners though, it's so good for organization for scatterbrains like me.

    I'd personally place Forest Farm in my personal S tier, because the specialized forage of that map makes it very reliable for a quick and easy Community Center completion. You need 2 Purple Mushrooms for the base bundles, and I've found that personally the way that most reliably gets it in year one while requiring the least amount of work is to pick the Forest Farm and wait until Fall. I could get it quicker by rushing level 80+ in the mines or picking the mushroom cave, but both of those require a lot more work and/or upkeep, and going with the bat cave instead also allows me to get off-season fruit for those bundles if I don't get saplings planted in time.

      With almost 2500 hours in Stardew, I pretty much never do CC anymore, but I too would put Forest in S. It has a ton of inherent gameplay variety to it, akin to the newly introduced Meadowlands.

  • @oracleoftroy
    @oracleoftroy 12 дней назад +1

    I'd put the Standard Farm in S tier. Everyone complains about how it is so vanilla, but it is just so flexible. The farmable tiles are laid out in a way that makes it easy to set up sprinklers, you can easily divide up where you want to grow crops or raise animals or ponds, trees, etc. Nothing really gets in the way. Plus, grass grows and spreads on tillable tiles, so even if you want to go more animal heavy, it just seems more flexible for doing whatever you want to do.
    Beach Farm is nice for similar reasons, and I really like the layout. The lack of sprinklers knocks it down a tier. I'd consider putting it at low A, but it really depends on what you want to go for. It is a fun farm for forcing you to change up playstyle and think outside the box.
    Forest is nice, but I really hate the way the non-tillable parts break up the layout. It makes it harder to farm. Same with Meadowlands. They look pretty, but it just feels like everything conspires to get in the way of what I want to do. I'd put them in B.
    Wilderness Farm is surprisingly nice in terms of layout. You don't have as much room to play with, but it doesn't have as many spots that get in the way like some of the other farms beyond the two lakes. And the combat doesn't bother me at all. I'd consider it around A simply because it lacks the awkwardly placed non-tillable spots that the Forest and Meadowlands farms have.
    The Four Corners farm is nice and roomy, but I dislike the symmetry. It seems too unnatural and gamey. That makes me want to ding it a bit more. In practical terms, it's high A, but in terms of how much I like it, it's B.
    Hill-top and Riverlands are my least favorite. I already don't like how the non-tillable parts hurt the layout of the forest and meadowlands farms, the river and cliff faces in these farms are that but worse. They look nice, but it is so hard to partition out what to do where, and when getting started, it is annoying how much the stumps and rocks block access to places. Putting them in C sounds good to me.

    One thing not mentioned in the video is that grass doesn't spread on the non-tillable tiles.

      That's true that's indeed a thing. Personally I met a drawback with Meadowland Farm and that is the space for way too many different type of animals sure is a good to go effect with Community Center, but is a burden for your gold gaining experience. The animals are expensive in long term and what you only truly need is to develop multiple Pig Barns in your farm. Since you start with a Coop, which is managable on Standard Farm as well, because the well-mentioned resource and gold costs for those 2 Chickens and the Coop itself are not that much compare to what you can gain from a Mountain or Forest Farms for the required resources you can build way more Barns that way easier and cheaper.

  • @riklaunim
    @riklaunim Месяц назад +4

    Riverland with the fish smoker is solid income boost early on and in summer the middle island is enough to do quality sprinklers + blueberries and buy all upgrades from joja.
    Forest farm with respawnable hardwood stumps is a good source of foraging exp when trying to get to mastery cave ASAP and hardwood that later can be converted to wood as well. Buildings like coops and barns could be placed vertically one below another with shared open space for grass making it very space efficient.
    Beach farm leans more into mass-buildings or big forest/green tea farms... can hold a lot of animals.
    4-corners is nice for organization and for never-leave-farm challenge.
    Meadowlands - as coops and barns can't be rotated it makes bit annoying to place building optimally assuming you want > 10-20 coops/barns.
    I made two custom maps too - small permafrost farm (permanent winter) and smallest map possible with all "features" turned on... self-promotion :P

    Beach farm is my personal favorite. I don't like to use any sprinklers besides Iridium, as I think even Quality Sprinklers are a waste of resources. If you have gold bars, then the watering can does 3x3, and you can do a reasonable number of crops quickly. 1.6 added another option for the Beach, too. Tree + Mushroom Log production.

    I personally am obsessed with the meadowlands farm. Of course the chickens are great, but I love how there’s multiple water sources, plus I think it has the perfect amount of tillable land near the starting location of the house for me (the farm layout name even has a pretty name). It’s perfect ‘cause for my recent fave, I’ve been going for the more aesthetic look rather than to aim for efficiency to not min-max as much as on my other saves ☺️

    i’ve played on most of these and as my knowledge of the game has developed I find different ways to use each one. With the introduction of Ginger island I find myself using fewer one off crops early game such as melons and more repeat crops such as hops and later, ancient fruit. The best early game is tea saplings though I believe Eric has cut the profit from these in half in 1.6. I like fishing so enjoy the fishing farm and have become disenchanted with the time it takes to care for them at least until you have autofeeders and autocollectors. I currently have two hens and two cows and don’t intend to spend time and money upgrading my coop and barn until much later. As I tried the Joja route this time it worked well for me. A useful evaluation of the farm styles, many thanks.

    I only play on iPad and I have the Riverlands farm. When I started the game, I didn't know what I was picking and that was the first suggestion. I am waiting to see what the update will bring and how it will change what I can do there. The limits of it are a puzzle and a challenge to me and fun to try to solve. When I get to the point after the update of wanting a new farm, perhaps the Forest or Meadowlands. Thanks for the video - this is the type of comparison I needed to find.

    I have to say I’d reverse Meadowlands and River-whatsit for my personal play style, though - meadowlands was cool, but I could t make it through the first spring before restarting due to the distance to water, while the free smoker means I can get to the desert festival in year 1, making the fishing farm overtake the forest farm as my personal favourite 😆

    • @Kitadollx

      Tysm!
      That's an interesting point about the smoker. I haven't even tried to get to the desert festival year 1, but my playthroughs since 1.6 have mostly been different challenges. I may have to try that out and see how it goes. Thanks for watching!

    The 4 corners map is really, REALLY good for me and my OCD, I tend to struggle with placing things and love them to be ordered and structured, i have my industrial corner (smelting shed which has crystalariums, pickle jars etc, a keg shed and my tree farm) another is my farming area, another is my animal area and the last corner is my fish pond/smoker area.
    So if like me you struggle to organise things, give Four Corners a shot.

    I think my biggest gripe with the riverlands farm is despite its theming, it did not age well. Fish Ponds are a nightmare to find a good place to set up here due to how limited the space is. Kinda making me consider swapping to the beach farm for my "fishing" focused playthrough if I am honest.

    as a bit of a perfectionist I'd rank 4C as "S". each quadrant can be devoted to a different industry which makes the compartmentalizing part of my brain happy. Otherwise I'm in total agreement with your list.
    I think CA and team should really consider a glow-up for the Riverlands, Hilltop, and Wilderness farm. In a lot of ways Riverlands gets supplanted by Beach, and Wilderness by Meadowlands, but having an in-base mining site is a really neat concept that i think is under-explored. What I think would be really cool is if the farm map got ported right out of a mines map, maybe have rock wall all the way around, with just a small ring of tillable Green in the middle with a pool at the center. Then everything outside of the green would spawn mines rocks each day, maybe with a higher chance of gems. +1 if you could get a ladder to spawn to take you to the mines, or a Hole to take you to SK direct from your farm, that way it keeps the advantage at endgame.

    • @rneumann7229

      I think adding the fish smokers to the riverland farm was an attempt to make it stronger since the fishing perk wasn’t really unique anymore after the beach farm came along

    • @kirbyjoe7484

      The fish smoker is a BIG advantage for the Riverland farm. You can get 30k+ fishing days spring year one using the Riverside farm.

    • @i_am_ergo
      @i_am_ergo 16 дней назад +1

      One problem with the idea of giving older layouts a glow-up is that it would automatically make old saves incompatible with newer game versions. It would require quite a bit of coding to reconcile old saves with new versions, and I'm not 100% sure it's worth CA's time given that he had to put Haunted Chocolatier on hold for over a year because of 1.6.

    • @bobnewkirk7003
      @bobnewkirk7003 16 дней назад +1

      @@i_am_ergo entirely agree, CA and team are working on a new project so that should take priority. From a "if we could change things" perspective its nice to brainstorm ways that the game could improve and maybe CA will circle back to SDV once HC gets where he wants it. I know he has struggled with Burnout in the past so he may make time for an update when he needs a break from HC.

    I *just* started a new 1.6 farm and ofc I had to pick Meadowlands. It's such a game changer for a casual player. I usually get my first animals in Summer and this time I was able to get a barn instead of a coop first, which feels like I skipped ahead so much. I don't think the water source is as much a problem as I've been hearing; because my routine is to water my crops then go check on my chickens anyway and the pond is right beside them. I definitely agree it's an S tier!

    It's interesting to see how differently everyone ranks the various farms. The one thing that seems pretty consistent is that the forest farm and the standard farm seem to rank highly for most people which is funny since I am not particularly fond of either. I actually like the riverland farm now that it has a fish smoker which seems to be a pretty unpopular option.
    I do however completely agree that those plank bridges need to go. Yuck.
