Hi everyone! First, what's your favorite picture book from this list? Second, I'm a bit late in getting this annual video up, partly because my library only purchased 3 of the 10 picture books, which is really unusual. I wasn't sure if I wanted to make the video, but I decided to purchase the remaining 7 books-and I'm so glad I did! There are some real gems on this list. Enjoy! Hopefully, the 2024 list will be up before the end of the year.
The last book is the only one I would consider buying, as an illustrator who was inspired by my childhood books to become one illustrations are as important if not more important than the story for me.
Thanks for a fun video! I was so excited to learn about We Are Starlings! I am fascinated by those birds and love seeing them at this time of year on my early evening trail walks - either all crowded together on the trees or swooping and swirling across the sky. That book will be in my house very soon!

Bunny and Tree is wonderful! I, too, find the illustrations super important.

Bunny & Tree certainly does look spectacular. The only one of ten that I had previously read is At the Drop of a Hat, which I think is great as well.
Bunny and Tree is excellent. I adored At the Drop of a Hat as well. Really beautiful.
Maybe I have an old fashioned taste but the illustrated picture books that seem to win all the awards these days are never up to my taste.
I tend to oscillate on modern art styles, but often find something I enjoy.
