    I’ll be honest, you spelled out a way to generate tons of mobs and jumped right to why that breaks XP without really explaining the A->B. Ender Enders have been ridiculously easy to build for a while now, and generate XP faster than the player can take it in. How would a crazy fast silverfish farm be any different? I mean it’s not even particularly easier, as you have to find allays and make potions every time.

    • @SimplySarc
      @SimplySarc  28 дней назад +297

      It's not just about like-for-like XP rates though. It's also about availability and ease of access. Ender enders / zombie piglin farms still require *some* effort to set up and can only be built in very specific locations. This method can be used basically anywhere and is, in my opinion, far cheaper to set up. You could set up dozens of these around your world/base, then essentially XP is on tap, 24/7. The reason I feel this 'breaks' XP is because it makes it so overwhelmingly abundant that it loses any remaining meaning it had.

    • @haph2087

      @@SimplySarc You still have to go to the nether for this, because it consumes blaze powder. Admittedly you can turn the powder into the XP anywhere, but that doesn’t let you skip conquering a nether fortress.
      If you’re going to say ender enders are “hard” because they’re near the end of the main progression tree of the game, then brewing is still most of the way there. The additional effort to kill some enderman, find a stronghold, and kill a dragon is not incomperable to finding allays and stockpiling blaze/glass bottles.
      I find killing enderman significantly easier than blaze because they lack a ranged attack, and can easily be stopped with a slab of blocks above the players head.

      @@SimplySarc if we are talking about availability and ease of access why would you bother getting so many resources for an xp farm. For the silverfish farm you need a constant supply of blaze powder, glass, gunpowder and cobblestone (perhaps even redstone). Not to mention if you really want an available/easy access farm you can just google minecraft mob farm, look at the 1st result and build it in 30 minutes, resource gathering included, with stone tools. Now if you think that going to the nether, finding a nether fortress and getting blaze rods after having transported allays for like idk 500 blocks is cheaper than mining some cobblestone you my man are mad tripping. I mean your video is just clickbait at this point. 💀

    I don't think this is going to be that much of an issue. An Allay/Potion of Infestation based XP farm requires you to go out and wrangle Allays and keep them hit with potions of infestation to produce a bunch of silverfish. Not only is this a lot of overhead and maintenance, but silverfish don't produce that much XP. Already existing Guardian and Endermen based XP farms require much less overhead (just isolate an area so they all spawn in a specific spot) and produce significantly more XP.

      I got from 0 to 30 levels in 1 minute 16 with an ender ender.
      There is no point to scaling up above a certain point as the rate you can absorb XP orbs is limited. Even with the popular enderman farm, the farm is too fast for you to absorb all the XP so there is a maximum rate that you can achieve and anything above that point is unnecessary. Infinite allays won't make it faster. In fact, I spent 1 minute 16 killing enderman until I got 30 levels but there was so much XP orbs still being absorbed that it gave me an extra 7 levels, so it's very easy to hit that limit of XP absorption rate.

It's already possible to generate massive amounts of XP to the extent that you easily reach the XP pickup limit, for example by building a super straightforward enderman farm. Several farms already achieve and exceed this rate (in which case the exp needs to be destroyed to not crash the server, several larger gold farm designs do this). You need to make a way to trap them in that box
      You need a wither rose, GUESS WHAT wither skull farming
      You need blaze rods for the brewing stand if you didnt get one from a village. OH WAIT you still need blaze powder for the power to the brewer, not to mention netherwart for the awkward potions.
      OH and a source of gun powder for the sheer amount of splash potions youll need to maintain this "Free exp farm" .... Enderman farms are more free exp than this because it doesnt cost nothing but your time to punch them/hit them with your sword and kill them for refreshing waves of exp...
      I mean. There is sooo much more work than going to kill blazes for 10-11 blaze rods, and kill some endermen for pearls. Go to the end kill the dragon, bridge out 128 blocks, then using like 2 stacks of leaves and some carpet, ender pearl a endermite in, trap it in a minecart in the right spot and you have a simple powerful enderman farm. OH and ofc teleport/spawn proof with some carpet in areas... OH and some end stone for the spawning spot as well..

    imo the potion doesn't break the EXP system because endermen farms kinda broke it already: they cost little resources to be built and provide more than enough EXP for the average maxed out player.
    Their biggest disadvantage is requiring you to travel to The End, but if you are getting the nether wart to brew the potions then you might as well get some blaze powder to craft eyes of ender and search for the Portal
    Maybe if you have enough allays your EXP output would be greater than that of an endermen's farm, but you won't be able to use all the extra EXP anyway
    So imo the mechanic is balanced

    I disagree. A silver fish based xp farm, while maby ok, will never beat traditional enerman, pigman, or gardian farms. This is due to the size of xp orbs. You could make a farm with a theroretical million silver fish per second. However all xp farms are limited by the size of xp orbs the mobs drop. Silver fisb only drop the smallest orbs while, say gardians, drop some of the largest. In a theoretical farm with infinite mobs, silverfish will never win. Btw, most xp farms are forced to burn xp because the xp intake is already too slow. The best theoretical farm is from the largest xp orb the dragon drops.

      not to mention the costs to make the silverfish farm>
      Need a wither for wither roses.
      Brewing stand, netherwart, blaze powder.
      An allay which are already hard enough to find as is.
      Amethyst crystals, record disk and jukebox to clone them..
      Its literally cheaper and easier to make an enderman farm.. Which outputs higher exp rates..

    Do you have any idea how obnoxiously difficult it'd be to force all those allays into a contraption like this, followed by repeatedly spending resources to fuel the thing with infestation potions?
    You'd be better off just farming Endermen in the end... which has been built in worlds repeatedly for ages.
    This hardly breaks anything.

  • @jpting_
    @jpting_ 29 дней назад +3

    I think this would be overpowered if it weren't for the fact that
    1. There are more efficient options albeit endgame ones
    2. Enchanting is already broken in my opinion, spending hours naturally grinding exp to do a max lvl 30 enchantment just to get an unbreaking III pick is crushing. The only real way to guarantee a good enchantment is to trade for them, otherwise, you spend tons of hours grinding exp to then spend it all on the exp slot machine and get nothing but sweeping edge on your sword and nothing else.
    Either enchanting should be more lucrative, giving a fitting reward for the *maximum* possible enchant, or experience should be easier to obtain so you have enough to gamble on the random enchants

    This is so incredibly niche, I think anyone who's going through the effort of putting 20 allays on a single block would probably just make a nether exp farm, it's a lot easier taking in consideration how rare allays are, some people haven't seen them till this day, and like you said, silverfish give too little EXP, like, past level 10 you would need A TON of them to be able to do anything, you can do it, but since it'll be too much work, and way too little reward, you're not really breaking the game, you're just taking the most tedious and less effective route

    Honestly, it's just a nice way to make more accessible XP farms that also use intuitive features from the game. Sure, you can make an Ender Ender anywhere in the End, but that requires knowledge about spawn mechanics and Enderman teleporting mechanics and other things. Sure, you can make a dungeon-based spawner farm, but that requires, you know, finding a spawner and building around it. Even if it's quite cumbersome, an Infested Allay-based XP farm is still a cool idea for people who might not be super technical

    There is other farms like this. On java we have the pillager xp farm u can cause a raid to accure next to an outpost and soon as they spawn they join the raid and gets removed from mob cap. On bedrock we have portal ticking gold farms where u force zombie pigman to spawn by re lightning a portal really fast. The farm ignores mob cap. Then in java any portal based farm with boat looting.u spawn mob in portal or make them walk into portal and they get removed from mob cap then in other side they wait until portal cool down and when back on other side go into boat to prevent them from clogging the mob cap. Xp was already "broken" this just another way

    I think you're right in saying that XP is becoming less important. A lot of things now give XP that didn't used to do so (furnaces, ores, etc.) This continues that trend.
    It seems they may be aiming for a 'pick your xp collecting method' rather than making it a challenge to get the levels. Don't think this is too broken personally but it is a bit sad for the Allays. On the other hand, Bane of Arthropod lovers are so back!

  • @userk9
    @userk9 10 дней назад +1

    I don't think the absolute scale of this was something mojang considered, I feel like the infinite silverfish part is intentional, but I do not think they realised how far it could scale without much effort. Honestly I never knew Allays had very strong regeneration, I feel like the effect with damage should have some sort of cooldown like "can only spawn silverfish" every X number of seconds, or maybe every time silverfish is spawned, each silverfish spawned takes about 5-15 seconds off the duration of the potion effect
    I feel your interpretation of it likely not being a mistake or oversight is a bit strange, considering in earlier snapshots, Slimes WERE in fact able to have the Oozing effect, showing that Mojang has made oversights and corrected them with these potions
    Honestly my main worry is not to do with EXP, as I feel the idea of building a farm like this that can generate such absurd numbers of mobs that- to my knowledge, do not naturally despawn, and spawn them with such ease- that is a bigger issue.
    I personally liked the potion effect and could see myself making funny little silverfish spawners to mess with people, but I don't like the idea of it being as excessive as the Allay example you showed, so I feel like a cooldown or having silverfish spawns reduce the effect duration would resolve the main issue
    Response to your noting of Sculk letting you "store" xp, technically this is true, but its so inefficient compared to something like Bottle o Enchanting that its honestly not worth mentioning IMO, Bottles of Enchanting are technically not as AFK farmable as Sculk, but are arguably just as easy, maybe easier to obtain, and much more efficient
    also at the end you say you personally think its broken and its unclear if you mean broken (unintentional) or broken (unbalanced), gonna assume the latter
    Also something you missed, Infested stone is not obtainable in survival minecraft. Silk Touch drops Stone rather than Infested Stone when mining Infested Stone, same behaviour for the other blocks
    I disagree that Tipped Arrows are unbalanced? Multishot and especially Piercing are great for tipped arrows as you can get more or even infinite uses out of them that way, but tipped arrows can be annoying to get (master level trade or dragon's breath), and using a crossbow also means you dont get the +5 damage buff you get from the Power enchantment on the bow.
    This also often might not help for what you use the arrows for: Range. You would have to go and get a piercing arrow yourself, or if its PVP, your enemy would get their hands on it, this statement about Tipped Arrows being unbalanced seems strange to me? Would be interested to hear the reasoning or know if I have completely overlooked something
    also the process isn't exactly easily automateable as you'd need the player to both shoot the arrows and then pick it up

    In a different thread @SimplySarc mentions that it could be used for XP vending machines without a set spawner and in any dimension.
    Though the Silverfish would _presumably_ follow normal despawning rules, farm designs would have some sort of OFF switch so the potions only run when the player is on a pressure plate. That means that the silverfish would only start spawning after the player got there and then would have to be transferred to the player and possibly softened.
    Plus, you would probably want the allays far enough away that you can't hear them scream! So... not instant.
    Still, it seems preferable and superior to large cactus smelting farms (Java only) like Impulse has made on this season's HC.

  • @TiredMoonRabbit
    @TiredMoonRabbit 26 дней назад

    This to me is very clearly an oversight, mojang has told the community on multiple occasions that they aren't the biggest fans of mob farms, or at least easy to make mob farms. A fix for this to me is to make it so that the potion applied mobs dont drop xp or regular drops, I think thats fair considering this mechanic is meant for fighting.

  • @Dornick_
    @Dornick_ 21 день назад

    they could pretty easily fix it by making it a chance to spawn the silverfish instead of just every time the mob takes damage, it could be based on the mobs hp too, so that mobs with more hp have a lower chance of spawning a silverfish, so that on average you get less per mob it could be something like 1/(instert mob hp value here) so for a zombie, it would be a 1/20 chance every time it takes damage

    I mean the potion of oozing was causing a huge problem before too when combined with the potion of infestation. you could put a few allays in a contraption like yours, let the silverfish all spawn, splash them with a potion of oozing and summon thousands of slimes. Mojang fixed this though so now the potion of oozing won't spawn mobs more than the mob cap (or was it the entity cramming limit?)

  • @JustAnotherYouTubeCommenter
    @JustAnotherYouTubeCommenter 22 дня назад

    you can put infestation on slimes and oozing on the resulting silverfish, then infestation on the resulting slimes, then oozing on the resulting silverfish; rinse and repeat. This creates an infinite supply of mobs to get xp from.

  • @dark_moth7
    @dark_moth7 15 дней назад

    I think the best way for Mojang to fix this is to largely lower the XP amount that these mobs that are spawned from the potions effect drop, this way you can still use this method of farming but it would either take significantly longer to get a certain amount of levels and would be less efficient than a standard mob farm, or you can cram more alleys into the farm but it would take so much longer to set up and therefor wouldn't be as optimal to go for aside from the memes.
