This is free to listen to and no one is forcing you to. For each reader I say thanks for the effort and I hope doing it assists them with their English. If you don't like it bugger off! Simple.
The story is what makes me continue listening...though the readers were awful I just keep their accent pass and smile on the way they read it....if not for the story I won't continue....
I too gave birth to two children. Saying that you'll subject yourself to a poor reading because you can endure pain seems like a strange option. By the way, chapter 6 is not the only bad one.
I really enjoy books by JS Fletcher and I love audiobooks. Its a great way to catch up on a wide variety of literature while multi-tasking. However, in this case, both my husband and I found the readers to be very difficult to hear. In particular, one reader seemed to be singing the text. It was so distracting that we lost the story line. Having so many different readers made it impossible (for us anyway) to get used to the accent and hear the story. I assume that it can be hard to find just one reader for a complete book? Perhaps that is the reason for so many different readers. I guess I would recommend reading this story instead of listening to this audiobook if you are a JS Fletcher fan.
Thanks for describing about many readers! I just didn't even start to listen to that book. Such a shame I think to record in such way....sad. but thanks your info was helpful!
The multiple readers, different accents, male, female, sudden cut offs.....made this audio not pleasant and relaxing. I know it is a wonderful resource for readers to experiment with, and with audiobooks so popular at this time.....could there not be better planning and arrangement producers?? It is hard enough to get through each chapter and its announcements, etc. Sorry, but, this is a disaster.
I love these readers-wonderful to hear the different emphases and accents, and the gentle warmth with which they read. Understandably not theatrical players, but a pleasure to listen to. Well done for having the courage!
Tho I'm not forced to listen, I love this Author's work n it would make the story soooo much better if you chose a narrator whos voice n interpretation accents the great story.😢
Completely unlistenable due to the horrible readers. No punctuation no rhythm in their voices. An excruciatingly painful experience that I chose not to endure.
I listened to the woman reader, ch 6. It is strange but she is replaced by another reader for ch 7. I guess its a matter of what you can tolerate. Sometimes the boring voices are good for going to sleep. ...
I have to agree with the negative comments about the readers. The poor punctuation and pronunciation constantly jar on the ear and detract from the storyline. The changes in readers also break the story - just as one gets used to the voice and accent, a very different reader picks up the tale.
Please do not believe the negative comments below. I have no idea why the comments below are so negative. I have made it to chapter 6. The reader of the 6th chapter has the same accent as the queen of England. If you Listened to the queen speak you would note that she has the same sing song accent and pronounced some words oddly. There is nothing wrong with any of the readers. The ladies, from non-English speaking countries, do an excellent job with pronunciation. There is a nasty “Uriah Heep” sort of person in the story that one has to hate or quit listening. But I will listen on
I don’t like a lot of the readers....English is obviously not their mother tongue. And one sings the last syllable of every sentence...... Far too distracting. I took the advice of some, and bought it from Audible. Read by Tom Weiss phew!!
Needs to be quality control, if the readers can't read with expression and clarity, they don't qualify. Please, narrators, replace 'readers' of just words say it with expression
Sadly many reading mistakes in the English of the female reader .... I don't think this is a native speaker (ch. 2 and 3) ... may be time for an editor?
You might have tried to listen to ch. 6 at speed 1.25. Better., though the reader still has a rather awkward tone of reading, like an elevator voice in a shopping centre or airport ... ?!
Even if this was my favourite novel (which it isn't) there is no way I would be able to listen to it. What awful narration, especially from the woman who takes over at chapter 6. Does she really speak like this? Dreadful singsong voice. Don't give up the day job!
Both female speakers have foreign accents; and one women sounds as though she is singing. The rhythm and cadence of the language makes the story difficult to follow. The personalities of the characters become impossible to understand or follow. Whatever merits are in the story are obliterated. I cannot bear to hear any more.
I have enjoyed the different readers, and have been impressed by, and grateful to, the people who read different chapters so fluently. Reading aloud is not easy, and the slight mispronunciations and intonation patterns, and odd stresses (also common in all audiobook readers, even those who are paid) that the people have does not distract from a book I found very good to listen to. Thank you so much.
The reader is the worst I’ve heard, is she telling a story or Singing ❗️totally spoilt this audiobook, I only lasted 5 minutes. DO NOT VOLUNTEER AGAIN. a disgrace ❗️❗️❗️😡😡😡

you rude person - lets hear you read it
I can't wait to listen BASED on all the negative comments. I gave birth to two children; I'm sure I can make it through "a chapter 6"!

Hard to imagine an old English cathedral village with a narrator with an American southern accent.

Love Author's work but was sooo hard to get thru chapter 7, for narrator either chanting or singing the words making it hard to understand.
Not chapter 7, was chapter 6.😮
Can't stand the negative Go pay for a recording Ungrateful people As for readers thank you for taking time to try and give back
Gave up at chapter 6

If you are so critical why don't you volunteer to read?

It's those dreadful livrivox recordings.....they are like that. Thanks for saving me time.😕
