Alas, that tradition has long since ceased, as Everton no longer have enough money to even sign moderately-raged centre-forwards.

Thereafter, Catholic players prior to Mo Johnston's signing include: Laurie Blyth (1951-1952), Don Kitchenbrand (1955-1956), Hugh O'Neill (1976), John Spencer (1985-1992) If DMC really wanted to tell you the truth he would actually do a tiny bit of research. Try Bill Murray's book, The Old Firm - Sectarianism, Sport and Society in Scotland (John Donald Publishers, 1984) pp 64-5. and ask yourself the question, why does DMC want you to believe these hateful lies?

Proud to be a Celtic fan we as a club have always signed players for their quality we never cared what a player's religion or colour was,as for sevco old rangers have a shameful history
Funny how Athletic Bilbao is praised for its signing policy - which was by definition based on race - but those lefties call Rangers a bigoted club, as an insult and slur. Rangers would have signed non-British or non-Irish Catholics at any point in their history I am sure, but the difference there is that they are not Irish Catholics or those whom purport to be so. The Irish Catholics emigrated into Scotland and refused to integrate and they are at fault in the first instance that caused the tension between native Scots and the immigrants. Celtic FC is a good example of that - it was formed as an exclusionary in-group for the Irish migrants, which caused further separation.
Just the Scottish and English protestants who went to the plantations in Ireland. They didn't integrate with locals they brutalised them as over lords. Celtic were started to feed the poor regardless of their background with backing from the Jewish community. So stop misrepresenting the truth for your own agenda or study history ffs
Celtic was formed as ab answer to prejudice in Glasgow you clown, formed from the ideals of Hibernian in Edinburgh. The Irish weren't wanted so integration wasn't exactly a free and healthy option. Sweet Jesus 😂😂😂
I don’t agree with Bilbaos policy, but technically speaking it’s not based on race. An ethnically Japanese man who grows up in the Basque area could play for the club. Whereas a white Mediterranean looking person from Madrid couldn’t sign for the club. It’s a bit like Liverpool FC only signing players from Merseyside. Merseyside has black and Asian people. So under a Scousers only policy, they would still have Trent.

In England we regard Mo Johnston as a mercenary.
Whose your team?
@@dmctv7620 Liverpool
Load of crap
As a Liverpool fan (and former regular - but now, as a father, etc…) I disagree entirely. In England he was hot stuff for Watford, hot stuff in France and Scotland, and then became part a proud tradition of highly-rated centre-forwards who drop off a cliff as soon as they sign for Everton. Alas, that tradition has long since ceased, as Everton no longer have enough money to even sign moderately-raged centre-forwards.
@@ronb5714 At Rangers Mo Johnston did well, but by signing for them and doing well he tarnished his reputation with Celtic supporters and the wider British and Irish football community.

Rangers signed catholics before Celtic existed
I remember the joke at the time: Q: What’s the difference between Mo Johnson and Elvis? A: Elvis is definitely dead…
Brilliant
Celtic aren't "mostly supported by Irish catholics" they're supported by Scottish catholics (many of whom have Irish descent).
Everyone watching knew what that meant.
Alex Ferguson could have been Ranger's manager had it not for his wife who is a Catholic.
Is that confirmed?
It's in a documentary of Ferguson.
Rangers were signing catholic players before Celtic were formed, pat lafferty was his name.
Some research wouldn’t hurt you pal 👍🏻

very good video, enjoyed that
Thanks for the kind words!
Sound red lining
I wonder what would have happened is either club signed a player who was an atheist around that time.

The game were Johnston crossed himself was at Hampden. Danny McGrain Celtic Captain & protestant recalled what a hypocrite Johnston was, as the only Catholic in the team that didn't go to mass the morning of the game . He got offered a million and grabbed it like the Judas he is.

@@dmctv7620 I didn't write the bible
Still hurting how pathetic
It’s easy to say that one is worse than the other but the truth is that one is a product of the other. Celtic have never sung about killing Protestants and if they have please cite me the songs where we have done so. Celtic football club have signed Protestants from its infancy. Rangers ex players referred to Mo as the “worst” catholic in this video.
The "worst" comment is made in the context of what is being discussed.
Yet Frankie Boyle wrote in his biography that he stopped going to Parkhead because of all the pro IRA chanting and singing.
Pretty sure Lee Rigby was a Protestant. So your saying it’s fine to sing songs about a young boy being murdered because he was a soldier? People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. Vile rubbish on both sides. Nobody can claim a high ground.

This guy "DMC" is lying to you. The following rangers players were Catholic, Pat Lafferty (1886), Tom Dunbar (1891-1892), J Tutty (1899-1900), Archie Kyle (1904-1908), Willie Kivlichan (1906-1907), Colin Mainds (1906-1907), Tom Murray (1907-1908), William Brown (1912), Joe Donnachie (circa.1914-1918) and John Jackson (1917).

Great point. Blatant hypocrisy from all the left-wing, Ambulance chasing, middle eastern geo political experts.
What's said in the luge should stay in the luge. Otherwise people will call out your patent nonsense BS
