One of the greatest automotive designs ever was the fourth generation Anglia. :)

I put a 1600 X Flow engine in my Anglia Estate. Fun times at the traffic lights. Lots of Vauxhall's and Golfs left eating dust.

Awesome old car, mate had one when I was a teenager...many years ago. Had old knee action shocks in the rear which we upgraded to conventional, was fantastic until the boot floor cracked where we mounted them thru lol

My favourite car had a few of these in the 70s, put a 1600 crossflow with twin 40 dcoe carbs ect, in one ,uprated suspension, 10 wide x13 steel wheels, with escort bubble arches, really loved that car, then went over to Mk1/2 Escorts, wish I had them now, instead of all the modern crap

Smart Anglia, have owned and modified a few, far better with a 1600 though a right hand drive with a crossflow on 40s means relocating the master cylinders. The reverse slope rear window makes far more sense than it first appears.

My family's 1st car was a new 1965 Anglia De Luxe, with the 997cc engine.
It sounded nothing like the one in the video !
I particularly remember the transmission whine, in 1st gear, when getting away from traffic lights . . .

Yep the one in the video is tweaked just a little bit!!!

@@GrassRootsGarage I envy your climate for preserving the bodywork of cars manufactured in pre-rustproofing days !
Ours was built in Halewood, Liverpool, England !
(No Fords made in UK, now.)

A 1200 engine would have had a match between the roof and stripe colours.

Great clip. However, could I just point out that in Europe (at least) Ford were racing touring cars before the Anglia came along in 1961? Jeff Uren ran a Ford Zephyr as far back as 1958, winning the 'BTCC' championship in 1959 - also in a Zephyr. The Australian climate is great for old cars to survive in.....
