Californian in a constant state of wanderlust, currently traveling the world. I’m here to share my adventures and give you tips about travel, culture, language, and life.
I'm always looking for music to feature in my videos! If you're a musician and are interested, email me at missmarijohnson@gmail.com. Thanks!
Fun fact: Australia has a big shortage of labour for rural work (all the young folk run off to the cities asap!) and therefore the govt and farmers etc LOVE backpackers! They're literally filling the massive shortage.
good one! Loved Australia so much!
Ruin Or Rapture HI I am Kiran from India Bangalore looking for job

+Leigh-Anne Marie It's really easy to do! I hope you can!
Super insightful! Congrats on saving more travel money. Woo Hoo!
+Selena Thinking Out Loud Woo! Thanks Selena!
Your videos are awesome! Also loved your collabo with JP. by the way I also think it is a good preparation to get a letter of reference from old employers. This helped me quite a lot to get jobs in Australia as I could attach it to my CVs. Friends of mine found many farm jobs by just driving to the farms and asked them directly. worked better than gumtree.
Hey! Aw thanks! Those are some good tips, cheers!
Thank you very much for this informative it is my greatest wish to live in Australia ..I LOVE AUSTRALIA
It's so nice that you are actually exactly doing what I will be doing at the end of this year. In october I will go to Australia too and (hopefully) work there for about three months on a working holiday visa and after that I want travel the east coast as well. These videos are like a foretaste of my journey and ofcourse I can get some tips and ideas of what to expect like this. So thank you for making those videos. It's funny that I was just following you because I loved watching your videos and suddenly you were just doing what I am going to be doing.
Also I would like to mention for the people who are interested in a working holiday that (I don't know exactly how it is in the US, but in Europe) there are some organizations which arrange working holidays in Australia and other countries. They help you with a lot you need to know about working and traveling abroad and they sometimes even help you finding work (At least the organization I am going with). Ofcourse it could be easy to arrange a working holiday yourself, but for people like me who are traveling alone for the first time it can be very useful to have a little help.
+Marissa Kramer Aw cool! I love hearing that you're doing it too! You're going to have the best time - excited for you!

You should travel up to Newcastle and the Hunter Valley in NSW, beautiful beaches & Vineyards.
+lee Mudford I'll be going up the coast next week, hopefully I can check out some of those places!
+Mari Johnson You will love the Beaches at Newie ( Newcastle ). I have been watching your Vlogs all morning, I am going to New York in August for 5 days and then LA on the way home, that's what started me watching them. I have also been to Thailand and Cambodia so it has been fun watching how you found those places to be.
awesome video! would you able to tell us about maybe some of the jobs you do working there and maybe some of the cheaper cities to live in there?
+SerenityB I worked at a hotel restaurant. All of the big cities will be more expensive, anywhere remote should have a lower cost of living.
thanks so much!
thanks mari
I've been watching like all of your videos because I plan on backpacking SEA and then working in Australia after as well. All of them have been so helpful!! Did you apply for the visa and job while you were in the U.S or when you were in South East Asia?
+Brianna H Glad you're finding the videos useful! I applied for the visa when I was in SE Asia and the job when I was in Australia. Have a great time!

hey mari, i have a few questions about the "work and holiday" visa (visiting from america). hoping to be visiting my partner in Melbourne in a few months and im wondering about the health requirements, and what type of work is allowed.
on the homeaffairs website it says something about organizing health exams which is something not listed as a requirement with the ETA visa. im unsure if thats really something i need to do, or if its only a thing for countries which may have more poverty. and as for the jobs i am wondering if basic jobs like working at aldi/woolworths/coles as a clerk, or shelf stocking are allowed.
thanks in advance, any tips/advice will be appreciated.
May I ask that where to book this visa? Like which website, cause I tried to find it but I didn't manage to get the correct one, always failed to get in those websites

Would you recommend applying for this if you are only going to be there for around 3 months? (a summer vacation period)
Thank you for the informative video!!!
If you want to be able to work while you’re there, then it would be! But compare the cost of the visa to how much money you might make to see if it will be worthwhile 😊
Can i get a full details!!!it will be very kind of you
can you stay more in Australia after that period end ?
I've just had my Holiday Working Visa granted and I am hoping to apply for a 2nd year Visa whilst I am out there. I will however be 31 when I am applying for my 2nd year Visa (30 now and will be 30 when I enter the country). Does anyone if I will be eligible for a 2nd year Visa?
If you apply for a working holiday visa at the age of 30 you can still enter the country when you're 31.
give me some good advice about going to Australia
Thanks
Hi there I am looking to apply for this visa, do I have to wait to be approved the visa to get to Australia? Or can apply for visa and get there?
For the Work & Holiday Visa, do you have to have $5000AUD when you apply or just prove when you arrive in the country?
Thank you for the information! It was really quite helpful!
Might I ask where you applied for the visa (online of course)? I'm not sure which website is legitimate and would really appreciate it.
Happy to help! I think it's this one - immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/work-holiday-417

+Mamadou Jallow the work visas are only for a few countries - Gambia is not on the list.
What are your future plans? You mentioned going the was coast. What's after that? How long you staying in Australia for? You going back to Asia? By the way what is your ethnic background? You are stunning and should do modelling.
+Lpool FC I answer these questions in my latest video! And thanks :)
Where you going after you have travelled around Aus? Back to Asia?
Hello i m in nz in a student visa can my partner go for a working holiday visa in aus
I bet he can
Hello good evening mem I am Indian Farmer family member so I am interested Australia work so please help me
Did you have the 5000 AUD in your bank when you arrived or did you skip that? That's alot to have in the bank when you arrive.
I had it but they never checked, so I don't know how necessary it is. Though it is very expensive here, so it's not a bad thing to have that much as a buffer until you find work and a place to live.
I didn't know the RSA wasn't national, that's pretty annoying.
When you need to leave a job so soon after starting, is this an issue? Are they aware that you are a pretty temporary worker?
I think employers are used to people on the working holiday visa only working a few months at a time. Just be upfront and honest about your time commitment and it should be fine!
india is eligible country...
Helo Mari l am going to Australia but vesa parablim please help me sponsorship vesa I like Australia and l love Australia people. I am truk driver 15 eyrs experience in Pakistan.
Hi Mari Jhonson
Awesome vid ! Great info :-)
I am an Indian i am a software engineer.
I would like to travel other countries.
Can i apply for this working holiday visa. Pls help me out on this
DINESH5799 you cannot as India doesn't have this working holiday visa concept
Hi Mari I'm living in Australia and my brother is here visiting on a working holiday visa, is he eligible for a second year visa if he does farm work? We are both from California I'm a permanent resident.
Unfortunately Americans can't get 2nd year visas
Mari Johnson thank you for your quick response, that's so unfortunate. do you know of any other ways to stay? he's got an amazing job 12 hours a day 5 days a week that pays phenomenal going to be so sad to go back to American wages. He is traveling alone and living with myself husband and kids any tips or advice for finding a travel buddy within Australia? he's 30 so not really hitting the clubs and not into staying at hostels...
So many people from Japan do it. Too bad I am not 30.
+Diana Ragub Yeah, I worked with a guy from Japan!
How can i apply online for visa? Can you plz suggest me a link......
did you find the link?
no... i didn't
Pls share info to apply for this HW visa.. Pls
Did you have to get a medical exam done before you left? I'm filling out the application and I'm worried!
I didn't and it was all good! But it might depend where you're from and where you've traveled to?
That's good! I'm from the US and I've already been to Australia once before, nowhere else overseas, so maybe I'll be fine? Fingers crossed! Thank you!!
Wow, how about that minimum wage!? Do you find that you're able to pocket way more money than you would here in the US?
+Kasey Belle Yeah, it's good! Though, the US dollar is strong right now, so the money is better spent in Australia - which is fine. The cost of living here is actually pretty similar to the US (actually some things are more expensive!), but I just did everything I could to save. It was easier in a small town where there was not much to do.
Hello Mari. Will it be okay if my friend will do an interview with you? She is doing this paper on what inspires bloggers about their content. I love your blog and i find you inspiring. Please say yes hehehe!
