I had one that was 6 years old at the time and had 35000 miles on it when I bought it...One of the most well built, balanced fun cars I ever had...When I moved on It had 325000 and still ran well...The 200sx deserves more respect than it gets.
When all my friends had DSMs and Hondas for their first cars, this was the car I learned to drive manual on and do donuts in. Those voice notifications were a dope feature

On Nissan they tend to degrade faster than the other exhaust components and the motor mounts tend to degrade fast has well Parts are made cheap for most Nissan and look into upgrading your Radiator to a Megan Racing all aluminum one ...Youre engine will thank you
I had one of these for 7 years, so many modifications all done by me, it was the 1.8 turbo, known as a Silvia here we got the coupes not the sedans, it was fast and went round the twisties really well. Leda springs, OZ Saturn 16" wheels. FMIC 18psi, big zorst, K&N cone (57i#150). L&B fllywheel etc. and a chrome bay, Lots of memories, big enough to sleep in the back..
Not sure if you know this, but you could get one with the VG30E (yes, it was still called the 200sx, despite the engine size), which is the same engine as the Z31 300zx/Maxima. A 3.0L V6 would definitely wake it up.
talking about the low gear thing, i saw someone post on IG that in the Honda Manual it says NOT to go uphill while having the AC on because the car WILL overheat. And guess what, It did! they had to wait for it to cool off and turn off the AC lmao 🤣 (it was like a 04 -05 Civic)
It's such a beautiful car, it's just indescribable. The Japanese old 80s angular design. I have a Silvia s12 myself, I love this car, it never breaks, it really can't be compared to a Porsche. And besides, yes, the big boasters with mercedes, etc. something else always breaks down with something like that, this car is a tip of the invention for me.
I bought a 87 200sx last April from the original owner. 200,000km, manual. I wanted a daily that was kinda like my 240sx. Mines a coupe with a CA20. No lugging or weird shit. It has 100hp and I fucking love it. It's alot like my S14 but slower lmao. And man I love it. Super fun to drive.
This was my first car as a 17 year old in 1997. Too many great memories! Mine would bounce up and down when shifting from neutral to drive so it looked like I had hydraulics 😂
I jave the same engine in my 89 maxima. It's bone stock but I've beat all the 90s stock civics and camrys that I've ran into. The one in the video probably has the 4 cylinder
You've got to take it to the twisties. My Mini Cooper on the twisty roads is amazing. Slow car fast is the best! It's not really mine it's shared with my sister. I'm getting my own supercharged one though.

Nissan stuffed those cars with technology for their day and they were pretty reliable. The one I had was pretty loaded to include the voice, digital dash, rain sensing wipers, and keyless entry. I believe they all came with multi port injection. High tech for its day. Rear drive, rack and pinion steering, 4 wheel disc brakes, 4 wheel independent suspension...

Such a clean car... Only thing I'd change is the exhaust (mostly cause around me most of them are rusting off so an after market one that's better sounding would be best for me)
Oh, an interesting thing about Nissan's talking car voice. Its nicknamed bitchin Betty and the way they originally did it was by making a miniature phonograph. So all the voice parts were recorded onto a tiny record that would play
I used to have a 1988 200sx xe. The dumbest thing I ever did was sell it! I live in Indiana, so most the old Nissan's, Toyota's, etc are rusted away to only a memory. You are lucky to have that thing. I wouldn't change anything about it, unless the radio won't play.
I had a 200 SX back in the late 80s but mine had the optional digital dashboard. Just to have add to the "Knight Rider" experience of the warning voice. ;-)
Great video. My cool uncle drove a red one of these when I was little. I loved riding around with him! I know this video is a couple years old but how is it holding up? Are you still driving it?

SR20DET pretty much bolts right into these. My brother in law did it
Get wheels and some suspension that’s all you need
Also replace that horrid steering wheel
But drew could swap it for a generic Nissan steering wheel with an air bag. E.g Silvia s15 wheel.
@William Sauro It doesn't have an airbag.
