    Hi, I'm looking for a method to improvise on all the scales without having to remember them. Could you recommend something? I have only found the solution of buying lots of roli lumi in parallel while leaving the scale keys lit. Thanks!

    Question about the Dorian. When I play, say C Dorian, I'm always thinking mentally, "play the keys in a B flat Major scale". Is that the correct way to address it mentally? Or, instead, should I be thinking mentally, "play the keys in a C Major and flat the 3rd and the 7th"? I realize that both are correct, but I'm wondering if there a dis/advantage to doing it one way versus the other. (Or, for example, if I do it the first way, will I get hung up mentally when trying to free myself of the first way...especially in a song changing keys quickly)

      The best way in the long run is to not think about scales and think about chord tones only

    • @swabygw
      @swabygw 4 года назад

      @@hamisharchibald740 Okay, so do you think of the chord tones of a B flat Major scale, or do you think of the chord tones of a C Major with a flat 3rd and 7th?

    • @hamisharchibald740

      Gaylord Swaby chord tones of the chord so for Cm7: C is 1 Bb is b7 Eb is b3 and so on

    • @swabygw
      @swabygw 4 года назад

      @@hamisharchibald740 Got it. You focus on, and have learned/memorized, the characteristics of the minor scale, instead of thinking about it relative to the B flat scale. Thanks.

      it’s fine to do, the main thing is knowing how to get it to sound like the correct key. You want that chord tone maybe even it’s correct pentatonic shell. Then when you add the remaining to notes for passing tones or flavor, it actually sounds dorian and not the relative ionian.
