- In this video I use an effective method to catching BIG mangrove snapper which is CHUMMING. These fish are so smart and have EXCELLENT eye sight which makes getting one of these tasty fish to bite your hook that much more challenging. But... when that chumm hits the water they go crazy and are not as weary to your terminal tackle. Also, the sharks have been REAL BAD this year and i just cant seem to get away from them. I agree, Lifes too short to be mad about something like 2 boats fishing one spot.
First time I’ve come across ur videos. This was a fun watch. What I liked more than anything was when the other boat approached and asked if he could join ur spot, ur response was “come on with it”. No attitude, just an angler, welcoming another angler. Loved that. That alone caused me to sub.
I gotta tell ya, I’ve watched dozens of fishing videos on RUclips and I have yet to find a channel that I enjoy more than yours. You make the perfect content. Exciting, entertaining and CLEAN!

There are very few people that are pros at throwing a cast net, as long as you get the job done it doesn't matter. I throw a much smaller cast net though.

I have watched a ton of videos and yours is the only one I have seen that captures the fun of black snapper fishing. {Can't bring myself to call them Mangroves]. I am amazed they bit the 40 flouro. We fish out of Pensacola and the water is usually too clear to use over 20 to 30 pound. The sharks are just insane everywhere. Had to sub because black snapper are my favorite fish.
Glad you enjoyed it man. "Black" Snapper fishing is some of my favorite to do as well. I guess us not having that clear of water like yall do to the east kinda helps us in the sense that we can get away with heavier line. Preciate the sub!

That was awesome. I'm headed down south tomorrow. Will fish mangrove on day 1, then reds for 3 days. They raised the limit in Louisiana to 3/man. Is that a 22' Seahunt? That's what I'm fishing out of.

Man that was an awesome spot.
My heart was racing watching you get that fish in before the Grey Suite man got him. Those were nice size mango's. What's the size limit where your at? Were 10" in shore and 12"off shore. It's amazing how smart they are. One time I had to go down to 15lb mono to get them to even bite but then I lost a lot from breaking off.

Yes it’s a win lose sometimes fishing for them mangs. Gotta have light leader to get them to bite yet heavy enough to get them out of the structure! But I like a challenge 💪🏻 it’s 12” across the board here in Alabama

I been catching a few mangroves too. The few I have caught have been nice. Its crazy how different spots have different fish . All have snapper cant get away from them.
Yes you are right, I just hop from spot to spot searching for the mangs after I have my red snapper limit

I think youre fishing a spot we fished last weekend too. Had to drop down to 30 and 40lb fluro to get bit. The sharks have been awful this year.

Awesome video! Do mangrove snapper hang out on most of the public reefs like red snapper and beeliners? I thought this was more of a nearshore snapper until I watched this video.

Thanks for watching! And i was using a penn spinfisher 6500 combo with 50lb braid and a 40lb flourocarbon leader. No weight, tied straight to a 5/0 mustad demon circle hook. Hope this helps.

They need to open a cobia hatchery, used to be back in the day you’d catch 5-6 cobia every time you’d chum for mangs, nothing like it used to be back in even the early 2000s, i don’t know what did it, either the Louisiana boys shooting 100 cobia a day for every day straight for 20 years or something, it’s just sad to see, the destin/ Pensacola area has also been destroyed, no more cobia which sucks, they need to either open a hatchery like in South Carolina or put stricter limits, every rig/ wreck should have cobia on it
Idk man, that is a good idea though. I know the state already does that with Flounder, Pompano, and speckled trout. If they could do the same with cobia that'd be awesome.

How high in the water column do the fish need to be to chum them up?
There’s a lot of factors that go into play like depth, current, type of structure, how highly the structure is, are the fish hungry,…etc but I have been in 100ft of water and chummed them to the surface many a times.
