  • Do you have to pay to upgrade to Wondershare Filmora 14?
I just got a prompt to upgrade to a "trial version" of Filmora 14 even though I already upgraded to an earlier version.
I'm not sure if the newer version will lead to another "perpetual subscription" or not.
I'm further investigating being that this version has just been released September 29, 2024 in the US.

    UPDATE BELOW
Here is my personal update as of Oct 28, 2024 - I have upgraded to Filmora version 14.0.11 and have not received a prompt to pay for an upgrade.
Moving on, the last time I had paid for Filmora, was during the upgrade from Filmora 11 to Filmora 12 back in December 2022. I have been using Filmora since February 2017 and have paid in total around $170 for versions up to Filmora 12 - haven't paid anything since. I know there is some confusion with the "lifetime" and "perpetual" license and many are confused including myself. I can't even look up my invoice directly on the site as it asks me to enter an order number to send to customer support.
It appears to be a "case by case" basis for some reason.

That's the new pay model. I have a REAL lifetime subscription because I had it since Filmora 9. Lifetime is NOT perpetual, and this was a big deal when they switched from 12 to 13. Perpetual means that you have updates to the current version - i.e, 13, 14, etc. Upgrades are $20. I used to be a Creative FCC as well and have done dozens of How-to video for this software\Co. That said, I don't see why they would disable features in previous versions - recording, etc. Use OBS, it's better, anyway. Great video BTW.

Yeah, remember the big stink over Filmora trying to screw (and by screw, I mean SCAM!) people over with Lifetime licences? I've had a Lifetime licence since V5 or 6, so I'm assuming that will still be honoured with V14. That said, 20 bucks is a good price for major version updates, but there is the principle.

@@roar666 absolutely! Thanks to Daniel Batal and others, we were saved. That was the big switch from Filmora 12 to 13 or, when they copied CapCut's GUI. I did a comparative video on the two. CapCut is owned by TikTok, though. LOL.

@@Madskillsuniversity wait, what? They copied the code for a GUI created by TikTok? I'll check your vid out, because if that's the case, it won't be going on my machine unless I fully test the comms between the software and... well.... you know....

Sounds good, thanks for the info.
$20 is not bad for each major version, including the updates.
That being said, I already had a freezing problem with the current 14 version and didn’t do the next level update because I was avoiding having to pay for an upgrade of unknown amount.
I’m doing the latest update and then seeing how it goes.
    Thanks again.

I find it very annoying that they force you to upgrade. I am a simple content creator. Filmora 13 is enough. Put right in the middle of a project I realized that I need to pay for the upgraded version because my time limits up. That's not right that they do that because now you're forced to upgrade unless you want to just throw out the last video you just made. I'm very disappointed filmora

Thanks for making this informative yet much needed video.
Last year I upgrade & switched from filmora-12 perpetual plan to 13 perpetual plan totally free, on my macbook.
Now when I tried to upgrade it again from 13 to the latest 14 version; its not asking me for any type of payment. After installation might be I also can get the option to pay for it.

I made the mistake to upgrade to 14 and now I can't go back... I was stuck editing a video that I need to upload asap and when I tried to export it (even tho I'm paying the $99 a year) it told me that I needed to either purchase Filmora 14 for $20 or get the free trial... if not, the video was going to come with a watermark.... I was very annoyed, I ended up signing up for the week trial that I will cancel, because I am already spending too much money on this... I might switch platforms... any advice?

Why cannot you go back? I installed v14 like 3 times and successfully switched back to 13. You can download v13 manually or go to your profile inside of the software and click on "back to older version".

Not sure why you can’t revert but in the meantime just keep the project saved until you figure things out with Filmora support.
The not so good thing is that you may have to convert the project back to Filmora 13 compatibility before editing the project with 13.

I haven’t been asked for payment, so maybe the previous payment covers 14 for you also?
I’m waiting for prompts but nothing yet as I use the program.

Did you upgrade to the latest version of 14? The terms say you can go back from 14.0.7 to 13 if you want.

I did try going to 14 but did not buy. Then rolled back to 13 and no longer work on 13. I’ve tried to record several times and anything over 5 minutes when I go to save. I’m getting a message saying file not saved. Never had a problem before. Guess I’m finally moving over to OBS and DaVinci. I really liked using filmora. Sad,,,

@@DarkHorseNetworkVol.1It really sucks doing a new version upgrade, as it appears that it throws a monkey wrench into the mix when you change versions, especially when you are in the middle of an editing project and files get lost during the process 😮
I hear your frustration. I actually have Final cut X but too lazy to learn that program.
I’m not crazy about Davinci, and Premier Pro is another learning curve, so I’m going to see how Filmora 14 goes during my trial. BTW, I’m not really into all the AI stuff, and not sure if that’s included as a base for 14 or you have to pay a subscription, which I avoid like the plague.
