Sweet Mountain, Planet Wisp, and Asteroid Coaster actually aren't made by Tomoya Ohtani, they're made by Kenichi Tokoi. In the remixes and the original songs.
I think the main reason why I don't like Ultimate's soundtrack as much as the original is because a lot of the remixed tracks sound pretty similar to each other (and I blame it on the stupid MIDI melodies). Almost none of the zones have a distinct theme from each other when it comes to music, anymore, and I bet if you weren't already familiar with the original soundtrack, you wouldn't be able to tell what half of the music is from which zone. The only exceptions are Starlight Carnival, Asteroid Coaster, and Terminal Velocity (which funnily enough are the tracks that didn't have their instrumentals replaced and actually sound like improvements from the original). Also apparently the composer for Ultimate is just allergic to softer music, because all of the tracks are loud and go so hard that they sound like club music. This especially hurts Planet Wisp, since a lot of the music is supposed to be softer and almost peaceful.
Colors Ultimate has some bangers but others compared to the original is.... Not very good. Sweet moutain act 3 has all the upbeat and intensity taken out of it -_-
I HATE the remix for Planet Wisps Act 1...it sounds so dull and rave like instead of a peaceful track showing what was what the levels were about. Also, how bad Tropical Resort Act 1 sounds too...the og sounds so much better than the remix. Just in general, all of the remixes sound bad compared to the og's expect Terminal Velocity Act 1 and Asteroid Coaster. All other remixes really did a downgrade...
