Um well Frankenstein wasn't mad, he wouldn't have laughed evilly at his formerly lifeless creation. He rather ran in horror of what the heck was he thinking

i know this is a very closed statement I'm about to make, but, to me, so far, _East of Eden_ and _Frankenstein_ are probably the two most prominent novels I've read in my AP Lit class so far. easily favorites.

I just realised that giant man is the creature and Victor is chasing him on a dog sled.

I recently read the novel and my interpretation was that Victor Frankenstein and the creature were actually one and the same man. Call it split personality or the "Shadow". I saw Victor as the killer but he was delusional in the subjective story telling. Whether the creature was real as an animated corpse or actually just a figment of Victor's own mad imagination is almost a moot point. The creature is symbolic of mankind's psychological mysteries and insanity. The creature and Victor are one and the same. The servant and the master within. Victor's "dark side" became his master. No one else witnessed the creature except Walton at the end. I believe the creature he saw after Victor's death may have been Victor's ghost or spirit. As if being possessed by his own self "creation". They are hundreds of allusions to this perspective IMHO. Great book. Way different than the movies LOL

great point, i also think victor and the creature are sort of the same person; Victor’s “pretty,” if you will, exterior, is the same as the creatures pretty and well spoken interior, and visa versa. Victor is selfish and caught up in his ego with an ugly interior, just as the creatures exterior/ appearance is ugly.

(Challenge) Write a scene where the monster spies on Victor creating the companion. Be sure to include the monster’s thoughts and observations as he watches Victor.

@@mrteaparty6090 it's a better story if the monster is real in my opinion

Walton and his men saw the creature themselves. That's the whole point of the frame narrative, to throw your theory out the window. The monster was real.
