I love what Cinemasins said about this film: "Wow! If the writers and producers had put as much thought into the plot as they did on how to legally score with an underage girl, this could have been a great film!"
It seems on set, the script was rewritten many times, someone hold up new pages, it has nothing to do with the movie but they're just gonna perform it on camera
@@800Ms-k6n And they probably had multiple scripts. There's no way the original drafts/scripts was just this one mish-mash, there had to be multiple and Bay just picked which ones he liked and then Kruger had to cobble it all together somehow. Just like the next one.
@@_somestuff I mean that's what literally happened when shooting Revenge of the Fallen. The movie was filmed in the middle of the writer's strike so legally Bay and Paramount couldn't hire a screenwriter until the strike was over so instead Bay and the actors just come up with something that has nothing to do with the movie but still gonna be in the final cut for some reason. They started filming without a complete script and i guess that happens with the rest of the movies
He really was. As bad as this movie was, I can't deny that I love everything we see of Lockdown in AoE. Everything from his ship, his dogs, his accent, his ideology, to his theme all builds him up to being a truly threatening bounty hunter, and an incredible one at that. Honestly, if we could just take some of the villains straight from the bay films, (DotM Sentinel, DotM Megatron, and AoE Lockdown), and put them into passion-crafted Transformers movies, it would be incredible, in all the best ways.
@@thecomic2731 If you're interested, Lockdown was introduced in the Transformers: Animated show, in which he is also a bounty hunter, and still a formidable threat. He isn't quite as evil, but it is an appearance in a passion crafted piece of TF media. Plus he got voiced by Lance Henriksen. Bay's version of Megatron and Optimus were also really well rewritten in the show Transformers: Prime
@@maxmocs5008 I absolutely agree. TFP was incredible, and it's probably my all-time favorite tf series. Animated is also really good! I love almost every TFA character except for Soundwave. Dont get me wrong, I think he's cool, but he's just not for me, which is weird, since Soundwave is my favorite character in general. Both shows are wonderful examples of how good a TF series can be when there's a true passion for it.
Even though it’s overused, the CGI of the transformations has always been really good with all of the moving parts. It looks like the transformer could actually turn into the car, and then this movie just decides to go with weird cg cube clouds for basically all of the new characters
I will be honest, I didn't notice that. Granted, I didn't watch the movie but it shows that the director and the audience was just like "yeah sure whatever" lol
It's essentially the latter: it was intended to be something else, but everyone pretty much forgot about it. Although, this and the guy randomly appearing in the explosion shot at the climax is basically representative of how messy and careless Michael Bay movies are.
Maaayyybe they were meant to greenscreen in some more ship schematics or -Energon readings- heat sigs? Whatever was intended, this was still a baffling oversight to leave in the final cut.
Not sure it is a direct quote from Bay himself but basically, "I'm making money, not movies" and yep, that's what Bayverse transformers were, moneymakers.
bee saving sam, and being best friends with him, in general, makes so much sense, they have such a big connection. Optimus is only really friends with Kade because he didn't sell them out, which is barely valid because let's be honest no one would give away a transformer.
@LazyBobby240 True BUT the thing with Sam and Bumblebee friendship is it became Toxic in the 3rd movie where Sam turns into a glory hound/douchebag who is obsessed with wanting to be recognized as a hero and he treats bumblebee like complete garbage, it's hard to find Sam remotely likable or sympathetic in the dark side of the moon it's like the writer's said screw it and made Sam so unlikable Sam in the Previous movies was a I Don't want to say good character BUT Least he was likable and he and Bumblebee felt like friends
@@naquingreen1603 your point is majorly invalid! Sam asked Bee “how come I don’t see you anymore?” And he literally cried when Optimus and Bee left with the Autobots. He wasn’t a douchebag. He literally earned the right to be recognized as the guy who saved the world twice before; literally he saved the world.
More importantly, Lockdown had a name, could transform and had actual dialogue. Not something you could say of the dozens of other robot things in this movie.
It's interesting isn't it. With hindsight it's obvious that the ruse is too use funding of Hollywood blockbusters as leverage to force in the hokey and crude propaganda messages of the doting motherland protecting its furthest flung provincial children from the corrupting external menaces, it's just in this case the message fell on deaf ears
I would say that while Optimus' and Cade's relationship is hollow and underdeveloped, Optimus choosing to help Cade says a lot about Optimus as a character. I'm of the opinion that through all the chaos of the franchise, Optimus somehow ended up with a pretty consistent and solid character arc spanning all the movies.
@@concept5631 i mean he's not human.. but the question is can transformers have mental illness lmao. they do have a sense of morality, which is an ingredient.
The character was well developed in the first movie and remained the same across all the movies. This is what he is. We already know who he the character is. So what’s the point of focusing on his character? It’s more interesting other characters’s relationship with him.

Throughout the entire movie I was waiting for the inevitable scene where Cade builds the dinobots. He is an inventor and we see a giant metal t rex skeleton in the beginning, it seemed so obvious. His character ark was wanting to make something that matters, and he never does?!?!?!
Now that I think about it, why didn’t they do that? The dinobots were built in the original cartoon, and it’d show that his obsession with being an inventor actually led to something.
@@r.a.fgattaiguy845 Maybe similar to Sam touching the spark Cade could have all the knowledge of the ship burned into his mind including the biology/mechanics of the dino-bots and with that he works together with Hound maybe to build them from the records of some of the oldest autobots/decepticons in existence
Building the Dinobots is a bit of a stretch. Plus, they're only in the movie for the 4th plot, Galvatron and his army. A plot that only existed for the action.

@@Roadblock213 Apparently he is coming back to direct a sci-fi film based on a novel called Robopocalypse. I only heard about this when Spielberg passed this film to Bay after years of delays.
I actually heard that Bay didn’t want to direct any more movies after Dark of the Moon, but Paramount and Hasbro forced him to because of its high sales revenue, so he really lost his passion and interest in the films, and it shows.
@@cvrriculum1322 It still doesn't justify, why he made the movie the way he made it. Even if he lost his passion for the franchise, he's still an A list director, it's his job to do the movie right, even one he's "forced" to do against his will. Doing it wrong still falls on his head nontheless. Imagine you'd be a CEO in a corporation, that would restructualize and decide to come up with a different product (maybe the directorate outvoted you, or something), so while the new product wasn't your idea, it still falls on you to make it properly, else your corporation will suffer the consequences, am I right? the real question is, why do such massive amounts of people keep paying for those shitty production movies? How many sequels did fucking Sharknado get, when in reality it should have made 22.8 dollars on opening week at most. How do these studios keep receiving funding? It's honestly beyond me. Hollywood as a whole has turned into the biggest collection of amateurs who think they're professionals.
I always felt something was wrong with the movie. Now I know why I couldn't feel invested while watching this movie, despite the main plot having some dark and deep issues, like autobots being hunted down and Megatron's mind living inside a government weapon.
Agreed, it feels like they just tagged those concepts on to seem smarter or deeper that it actually was. Man I would've lived to see more Galvatron but he didnt even get to fight Optimus a second time or play any larger role.

Dude, I think that was the best tie-in commercial I've seen on RUclips. You're not only a competent reviewer, but also a competent filmmaker, and I have nothing but respect for You.
This what also happened to Paul W. S. Anderson, the guy who made the Resident Evil films. Like Bay, he too showed some talent and care when he started. His earlier films were among his best, and even through out his filmography you can still see some good competent filmmaking. But he too lost it at some point, and now he just doesn't care at all. He went from Event Horizon to Monster Hunter.
the last RE was horrible, cheesy, absurd and nonsensical. I've watched it once because I watched all of them before, so I thought, "let's do this". I think I kinda regret this, but at least I did it. And yes, the sixth installment ("Final Chapter", I had to look it up) is not worth it, it will kill some of your brain cells. also yeah, Paul W.S. "I married my own OC" Anderson lol
The only difference between Michael Bay and Paul WS Anderson is that Paul WS Anderson is actually nice to people on movie sets than Michael Bay, who treats people like shit on movie sets
Not to forget he started with the original Mortal Kombat movie, when even back then any video game-to-movie adaptations were doomed to shit on the theatres. Even after seeing the Resident Evil movies, I still enjoyed his movies. These days though, there are a shitton of really good directors that even his work is just mediocre at best, and in the case of Monster Hunter, just pretty much shit all the way.
Only thing I liked about original residenr evil movie was the soundtrack. All the heavy metal bands with great tunes from mudvayne to static x. Depeche mode to Marilyn manson. Best soundtrack ever.
Reminds me of Marilyn Monroe. Men were OBSESSED with recreating her. There were wannabes everywhere because of toxic masculinity and misogyny. I think the same goes for your comment. Megan was such a bombshell, men were offended to be rejected by her. That’s why she was blackballed from Hollywood. Jealous misogynistic men. Poor thing.
Queen Of The Comments found the feminist, they don’t look alike other than they’re both attractive females which is obviously good for the sales of a movie generally speaking and the idea that just because they’re sweaty and attractive they’re copying the style of another actress in this BLOCKBUSTER ACTION franchise is a joke they’re running half the time and they live in Texas people who find excuses to be offended should keep their opinions to themselves
I'm not certain that Michael Bay really has lost his passion. It's true that as the Transformers franchise went on the movies became more and more blatantly sloppy. But at the same time he always has been about excitment before anything else, and that has remained true in his later TF films. It's very possible that he's not so much having a burnout as finally getting to do things exactly as he want them to be.
The part that confused me the most is that the over two hundred countries in the world are okay with taking out Optimus prime. Which technically in the world is pretty famous and probably considered a hero but they went full 180 on him and killed his friends.
On one hand, there’s killing aggressive assholes like the wreckers. On the other hand, there’s trying to kill OPTIMUS PRIME, your SAVIOR. I think the big thing that got them scared was that they trusted Primes naturally, or at least thought “The Fallen” was the obviously evil and dumb prime. Then Sentinel came along, shot up NEST, killed fellow autobots, nearly beat Optimus, worked closely with Megatron, and got Chicago, and almost the world, completely obliterated with ease. And that was from Optimus Prime’s own mentor, and someone Optimus Prime told people to trust. The humans were used to fighting some obvious evil that disguised as tech, but Sentinel suddenly blasted through and caused more damage than both of the decepticon leaders by pretending to be a good transformer. Just like that, the humans looked for alternatives and killed the Transformers without care. They always seemed to mistrust the robots, and didn’t always get along with Optimus, so they didn’t want to be caught unaware if Prime followed his mentor’s footsteps and tried a weird cybertron strategy, no matter how many times he’d say he wouldn’t.
@@MrHAH-cd9ku Good point, though your point is ruined in the following movie when it's shown that they have been arresting Decepticons. @@lisboah It is possible all those decepticons came after the whole KSI situation. He wanted to end the series with a trilogy as the original ending for DotM had Megatron and Optimus come to a truce to rebuild cybertron, and that was it. However, paramount wanted more sequels, so he was forced to change the script to the ending we see today.
6:25 Wouldn't it have been easier to make the daughter older or the boyfriend younger instead of coming up with a convoluted reason for why it's okay for an adult to date a minor?
Or even have it where it's an obvious morally not great situation, and the guy isn't that good and he teaches his daughter to treat herself better or somethin. You know. As a point as to why he didn't want her to date in the first place because he knew she'd be dumb.

I swear we have the same brain. Like, none of the Transformers movies are "good". But something about those first 3 movies... I do find enjoyment in them. Especially the first one. Good pacing, good enough character building, actual stakes, build up, and that end fight in the city is prettyyy badass (especially those scenes with Ironhide). After the 3rd film, it felt like Bay lost all his creativity...
Bay frankly didn’t enjoy working on the movies after even the first one, but he really lost motivation when pals of his insisted on a fourth one after he killed Megatron, The Fallen, Sentinel, Starscream, Shockwave, and literally any other potential villain that he knew of. He didn’t want to make some shit like Galvatron, or even Lockdown, but he eventually decided to try anyways. It sucked, but China loved it, and China is an amazing moneymaker. Then he tried to quit, again. He didn’t care if Galvatron was still alive and Optimus had a whole new story going on. When he was to do it AGAIN, he was probably so very tired of transformers he didn’t bother following his own lore. Bay retconned himself into the ground, and scoff, he didn’t go for money. The movie was finally some sort of box office fail, and he immediately ditched now that even the money wasn’t worthwhile.

It is such a wasted potencial. You know that some of the voice actors are putting effort and time into their jobs. And Michael Bay throw them into the gutter with his shitty direction.
If I had written Transformers Age of Extinction I would keep Cade as an inventor (I actually liked the inventor part) I would make Cade find Optimus by himself, not with a clownish friend. He brings him back home not knowing he is an Autobot and then once he is at his garage he finds out he is an Autobot. Cade knows that Autobots and Decepticons are being hunted down and he has an inner conflict with either giving up Optimus for the money he needs for himself and his daughter’s college or do the right thing, but he takes the difficult choice and sacrifices his inventions to use them for parts to repair Optimus. Eventually the Mercenaries track down Optimus and right when Cade’s daughter is about to be killed Optimus wakes up and kills all the Mercenaries. Optimus goes back into vehicle mode and tells Cade and Tessa to get in and they do as Optimus says. Optimus takes Cade and Tessa with him and he transforms into his new vehicle mode and after a while they arrive with the rest of the Autobots. where we see the same ones we saw originally in the movies with Ultra Magnus included in the team (considering many fans wanted to see Ultra Magnus in live action). We would see a bonding moment between Cade and Optimus where Optimus would tell Cade he was aware that he had repaired him and he didn’t turn into his robot mode so that the mercenaries couldn’t track down his energon particles, but he failed and now he has put Cade and Tessa in danger and it’s all his fault. Cade asks why are the humans hunting down the Autobots if they are the good guys to which Optimus says he himself doesn’t know, but when he does he is going to make sure they pay. Cade tells Optimus he is going to need some human help and with the drone he recovered he finds out what autobots had been killed and where they could find the place where the bodies of the Autobots had been taken. So they invade the lab and that part would go to the lab where they would find many of the disappeared autobots prisoners and they would release them and flee from the lab. But KSI activates Galvatron who in this version would be an absolute badass who would destroy Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus in a fight forcing the team to make a desperate escape. After re grouping at a building, Cade asks what the hell was that and Optimus reveals that it was Megatron reincarnated in a new body. Mirage, one of the formerly imprisoned Autobots explains that KSI has not only revived Megatron, but his entire Decepticon Army and if they don’t stop KSI now, then the entire world is in huge trouble. Meanwhile Attinger wants to activate the decepticon army, but Cade calls Joshua and tells him that he has revived Megatrons army without knowing and Megatron is only pretending to be under KSI control until they activate his army. Joshua does believe Cade after all the malfunctions that Galvatron has been presenting lately. Joshua tells Attinger it is dangeroes to activate the KSformers because they haven’t been fully tested yet, but Attinger doesn’t give a damn and he takes command of KSI and activates the KSformers who immidiately go into robot mode killing Attinger and Savoy while Joshua escapes with the security lady he had. Joshua eventually finds Cade and the Autobots and tells them of what’s going on. Optimus tells the Autobots they need to go back to Chicago to finish this battle with the Decepticons. The Autobots, Cade, Joshua and the security lady go back to Chicago abd they battle against the Decepticons. At the end Galvatron fights Optimus and Optimus gets almost killed until Ultra Magnus and Bumble Bee appear and help Optimus and take down Galvatron, but they do not kill him. Galvatron takes the chance of activating a Nuclear device capable of blowing up a huge chunk of land. So Optimus grabs the Bomb and flies away with it while Galvatron escapes. Optimus throws the bomb into the Chicago lake. Optimus returns and Ultra Magnus tells Optimus that Galvatron has escaped, but Optimus says that what matters now is that everyone is alright and he now understands that not all humans see them as evil machines, and they Earth is their home too and they have to help humans be all that they can be “There are mysteries to the universe we were never meant to solve, but who we are and why we are here are not among them. I'll never get over the fact that Bay actually wrote and filmed a scene explaining why it's okay for an adult to screw a minor instead of just aging her up one year and not adressing it.

The "best" part is, in the Amazon factoids section for this movie states that it protects him against assault, but not assault against a child, so even they fumbled the ball the one thing that made it "ok", and all of this was labeled under "goofs"
The first movie is absolutely fine on its own. It had a lot more care and passion put into it that a lot of people retroactively take away because of the sequels. Unfortunately, the 2007 writers strike crippled the next movie's production and I think the success it still got taught the studio that they didn't need to put as much effort to still make a profit going forward. Instead of improving on what worked, they doubled down on what didn't.

The final scene where Optimus just flies away cringed me soo hard, because in Transformers 2, a "Nice" Decepticon had to sacrifice his life to 'temporarily' give Optimus the ability to fight and some much needed repairs. But now that sacrifice is pointless because he can fly all the time.
I have to admit though, my favorite moment in this movie is when Optimus says to Cade something like "I went through the same phase with Bumblebee" about the daughter. It might be stupid but I loved it. And I really liked the new autobot designs, but I always wondered where they came from. Every movie I always wonder where the new bots come from.
At the end of the first movie OP sends a message to the stars, calling all Autobots to Earth. In the third movie, the Autobot ship "Xantium" is said to have brought the (at that time) "last wave" of Autobots to Earth. The Decepticons were hiding on the dark side of the Moon. So that's how most of them came to Earth.
This is the most I agree with you yet. This movie felt like Michael Bay trying to recapture his past glory. A movie this bad should've been anything but boring, it could've been a so-bad-it's-good fare; indeed, there were unintentionally comedic moments in it; but somehow it still manages to be the dryest cinematic dump I've ever watched. It seemed to worth at least your past ten 'Anatomy of a Failure' videos.
This movie made over a billion dollars yet it every video essay on RUclips calls it a failure. So sick of this narrative of the bay transformers movies as failures when they where all box office hits and legitimized the brand in mainstream popular culture.
Jesus Christ, writing a decent script for a movie literally only requires 2 types of questions: "why" and "so what". If both are answered for every character, every decision, every detail, everything, then you're good to go. I know this is very simplified, but I'm astonished by how rarely this stuff happens
@@justinchalifoux4424 You could also phrase it like this: 1. What is important (to the resp. character)? and 2. Why is it important (to the character)? What do they want to achieve and what do they hope to gain by achieving it or fear to lose by failing?
18:07 And now Christian Bale's clash with Terminator Salvation's Cinematographer feels more correct. Nice to see that an actor also cares on how the film looks even if it fails at the end.
I love how some filmmakers have no idea what inventing really means. I din't "invent" my gaming PC. I didn't "invent" this pizza I brought back from work. Marky Mark didn't "invent" robots in a movie about sentient robots.
The really sad part is that this film would have worked so much better with just a few tweaks, such as showing a sped up montage of Cade actually repairing Optimus, them actually getting to know each other for a few weeks before the raid, Cade actually being a struggling inventor with several successful products that aren't selling as well as they used to, using the knowledge he gained through repairing Optimus to build gadgets he uses later in the film, etc. And that's just in the first act... Actually, that's an entire film in and of itself...

AOE ruined the transformers movies. The first trilogy movie was the best. DOTM was supposed to end but due to Transformers prime being a very loved show the new writers said they will look into past TF series to use ideas for the movies. They looked at too much Prime. Animated should've been continued
Bumblebee was easily the best Transformers movie. Who would have thought using the characters and designs from the successful show would help the movie its based on succeed?
@@sleepinggorilla yeah no. Bumblebee was good but it's not the best. Heck 1st bayverse movie was better. The only thing that made me not like the bumblebee movie was just less fights and the characters were boring compare to sam which the jokes on sam made him more better than charlie

PWSA also has a wife to cast in all of his films.

So the humans go around killing the human-loving and peaceful Autobots, but they simply arrest the racist and warmongering Decepticons?

However, paramount wanted more sequels, so he was forced to change the script to the ending we see today.

Cullen really hated how Optimus was portrayed in these movies.
Optimus returns and Ultra Magnus tells Optimus that Galvatron has escaped, but Optimus says that what matters now is that everyone is alright and he now understands that not all humans see them as evil machines, and they Earth is their home too and they have to help humans be all that they can be
“There are mysteries to the universe we were never meant to solve, but who we are and why we are here are not among them. Those answers we carry inside, I am Optimus Prime and I talk to every Autobot still within the stars, we are still here, Earth is our home and we are waiting for you”

I really didn’t like the designs in this movie. It felts way too human looking when they’re supposed to be robots
At the end of the first movie OP sends a message to the stars, calling all Autobots to Earth. In the third movie, the Autobot ship "Xantium" is said to have brought the (at that time) "last wave" of Autobots to Earth. The Decepticons were hiding on the dark side of the Moon.

I don’t know what I hate about this movie the most: the dinobots being wasted, look of Galvatron and the other fakeformers, or the weird plot line with the boyfriend, a grown-ass man, trying to pork Cade’s 17-year-old daughter.
the last part also dont make any sense since its completly legal in that state to have sex with a 17 year old
Theres only like a year or two difference between them which is super common.... its not like hes some old perv picking up a high schooler.
I'm I the only one who actually likes transformers 4
It's okay your valid in your likes😊
your pfp says enough
@@mattrb8101 what about it?
Nope. I like AOE far more than ROTF and DOTM, which were garbage in my opinion.
