      @@LyonsM So, it's the teacher's responsibility for the behavior of a child due to POOR PARENTING? If anything it's the fault of the parents, not the teachers if the child acts a damn fool in the classroom. No accountability. If the parents don't care, then why should the child? A teacher isn't a miracle worker. Parents need to take accountability and stop blaming the teachers for their own stupidity.

      Parents underestimate this, honestly. Saying this from an ex-kid perspective (lol), my parents were the type of "We are busy feeding you. It's your responsibility. If you fail -you fail. Can't blame us."
      Well. Jokes on me: Turns out now I had undiagnosed ADHD + a small learning disability for math. Instead, they just screamed and I started hiding bad tests.

    • @Sammy.goNavy70
      @Sammy.goNavy70 8 месяцев назад

      @@leroyjenkins1249 I know what you mean! Speaking from a parent perspective I couldn’t understand why my daughter couldn’t remember a word that we just went over. Turn out that she has short term memory issues and it’s hard for her to remember the words we just went over. She was tested by the school and this is what they told me when she was 5 years old. I felt so bad for yelling at her, even now I still do. I brought leapfrog books to help her, books with audiobooks to read together to help her. Parents found out what is causing your child to fall behind and don’t yell at them. Talk to them to get to the bottom of the issue!

    • @j.lingle4713
      @j.lingle4713 7 месяцев назад +14

      @@leroyjenkins1249- to your credit, I’m assuming (rightfully, I hope!) that you were just struggling and not physically lashing out and being hella disrespectful towards your teachers. Sadly, you can find too many videos of wildin’ out behavior of middle school and high school students assaulting their teachers, in addition to tons of videos of teachers and former teachers detailing their horror stories about common, everyday behavioral issues in schools these days. It’s another sign of parenting failure - not disciplining children and holding them accountable for their actions/behavior. A lot of children these days have parents who are either - let’s be honest - straight-up negligent or want to be their kids’ friends (or worse, want to be the ’cool’ parents).
      I hope that you forgive your parents and have found the means to achieve with your disability. I also hope that your own experiences make you a better - more involved - parent when the time comes.

    White teacher here. One of my favorite conferences was when I was meeting with a black mother to discuss her son who was the sweetest student ever and super bright. As such,he was very funny and was very popular with peers. I made a passing comment that sometimes he talks in class or acts silly but I wasn’t concerned because he was performing well in class. That’s when his mom said “oh no I’m gonna stop you there. He BEST be listening and showing you respect at ALL times. None of these excuses that he has good grades. He needs to RESPECT you… and if he doesn’t you call me or get Ms. (Other teacher on my team who is a black woman) because these boys don’t always remember to respect you white ladies talking all soft and nice to them because what they are used to and need a strong black woman to give it to them. “ I loved her candor. We both had a good laugh over our differences in approaches and view of the situation.
    I learned so much about how black women raise their sons and the burden on them to ensure their sons grow up to be smart and safe and respectful. I’ve never forgotten her. It’s still my most memorable conference and collaboration with a parent. I really admire the parenting approach and wish I had that with my own children. I also remember now to set the standards a little higher so that a student can be the best they can be.
    (PS I was hesitant to post this because I feel like I can’t write this story well without sounding like I have implicit bias or ignorance regarding race. Please forgive any unintentional statements that may be such. I am still striving to learn every day. I also welcome informative conversation to improve my efforts to be respectful and to be responsible for the words I say and how they impact people.)

      Yes this is always a shame. I think sometimes it's because they're low-income have to work but if they're just there because they don't care then that sends a terrible message to the child. If parents didn't want children they never should have had them , should have had an abortion, or should have given them up for adoption.
      Alternatively they might care but they might be traumatized and stuck on drugs so that's another unfortunate situation. Either way at that point CPS needs to get involved. Not that I trust to CPS most of the time but sometimes they are necessary.
