I'm just starting out with quail. I have been raising chickens for over 10 years. So I am a little knowledgeable. I've been researching quail for over a year before pulling the trigger. I only intended to do this solely for raising meat birds. But after a year of research and way too many people asking me for quail and eggs I'm going to increase my flock and start a business. Thank you!!!
@@christingnad I do not have social media, so mostly just word of mouth I live in a small town, only seven thousand people. I have been attending local Farmers Market. And I hang up signs locally.
If anyone thinks farmers want to corner the market on their product they need to look up what the farmer gets vs what the packer gets. Farmers don't want for much because they don't ask for much. They knew going in what they needed to do. Feed 7billion people every day
Very informative, I won't be selling quail or eggs. I'm not in a place where I can do any growth in the numbers that I have but I am trying to get people I know to consider raising them. PS I will now let them know about your channel so they can learn from you.
enjoying the series. We just got an incubator, a hatching time brooder, grow out tier, and 3 tier Layer set up for starting to raise quail. I need to watch your "all about the colors video" but our thoughts are to raise some celadons along with regular coturnix colors and try to combine them for egg sales and maybe chicks/teens/ and breeder sets. Assuming we can get a slight increase in profit on the celadons but we are new and learning. Im continuing thru your quail for profit series this week..LOL. thanks
Yes by doing the bloodless cull method which we have a video on. It shows how we do it with adults but it works the same as chicks just very fast and gentle
Lets ask the expert: I was looking up to see what the plural for quail was and it said either quail or quails, but that doesn't sound right to me. I don't know if online dictionaries are trying to change what is the correct word, but I always thought it was quail, not quails, and I see you say quail as well.
@@MyshireFarm Per the Webster dictionary, quails is also correct. I should look it up in an old, printed dictionary and see if that has always been correct. I find learning the correct way to say things interesting.
Currently raise chickens ( meat and egg) and pigs. Considering quail for meat , eggs ,and dog training . Is there a certain type best for the dogs and does it require a flight pen? Thanks
No they are as simple as it comes and we sell quite a bit to dog trainers and they request wilds, Tibetans and rosettas. I would do the wilds personally. Then you get large ones for meant and eggs and the ones that are not big enough could be for dog training
When you're planning for shipping chicks, you added "grow cucumbers" in that... is that totally off the wall or do you include some in the box to keep them fed/hydrated? Took me off guard for a sec. :D

That’s awesome! How was the word getting out that you had quail and eggs to offer? I’m thinking about starting out with selling eating eggs.

Good luck on your journey
Will be buying from you later getting prepared
When you say you place leftover hatchlings into the freezer. Do you dispatch them; and if so, how?
Yes by doing the bloodless cull method which we have a video on. It shows how we do it with adults but it works the same as chicks just very fast and gentle
I sell 5 wk trios for 15 bucks, two hens and one male. All jumbo coturnix
That’s great. Congrats
do you need NIPI certification to sell birds and eggs locally?
Just if they pays state lines
Around how much should I sell my quail and eggs
you need to research your area.
What is a breeder set consists of?
Are the birds unrelated, or does that even matter when breeding quails
They are unrelated and it is 5 hens and 1 male
@@MyshireFarm If I hatch out 2 dozen eggs from Myshire, would they be unrelated? Or should I specify when ordering?

Quail is the singular and plural for quail. Technically quails is not a word

Also are they more difficult to raise than chickens

@@MyshireFarm great thanks I'm working on a set up now and I'll come get some from you . I'm just in Milford so not to far

Yes either cucumbers or apples go in every live quail box we ship
Wait so you don’t need a male for them to produce eggs? The male is just to get more baby chics? Really?
Correct
@@MyshireFarm ah nice. Thanks for that I didn’t know that.
