"It's not the tools, it's the mechanic," as my dear old dad says. He's 3rd generation in the ice cream biz; I was 4th (now moved on to bigger and better). Learned lots of skills in making 300 gallon batches of mix, which have helped me immensely when making just a quart at a time in the Cuisinart machine, making all the things that the Ninja and Breville can make that supposedly the Cuisinart can't.
So which’s the best machine ? What do you recommend?
@cgncn4369 I have had the Cuisinart for almost 20 years. It's tried and true, and it's relatively easy to experiment with. My one complaint about it is that it will only freeze so far and so hard. Sonif it is a really warm day, you need to be quick about getting it from the bowl into your storage container. But if you're going to go the self contained refrigerator unit, The New York Times Wirecutter picks are good, if a bit pricey. If you really, really have some coin to drop, then invest in a Paco Jet, take the time to learn how to use it, and make some otherworldly ice cream.
We recently got my sister to breville ice cream maker, it works pretty well. I however started with the Cuisinart and as far as I'm concerned would use the Cuisinart because it's way cheaper.
Did you check if it stays smooth after returning it to the refrigerator?

If you need the absolute best, it's the top of the line.
Bought Ninja 501 about two moths ago, piece of crap. Already replaced, new one is no different. Magnetic pickup doesn’t always engage and drops the paddle in the mixing jar. Under warranty and they claim 2 months on the phone for replacement. DO NOT BUY. All gears are cheap plastic. I’ve read many other problems with the machine.
