It is precisely because our federal government was designed to protect liberty not services that it was designed with these checks and balances to enforce the same minimalist constitution. I agree about a moveable feast..there was something a little weird about that book that stuck with me in a good way….I wouldn’t have been able to articulate this at the time but thinking about it now I believe it was the fact that I was very much into Hemingway and F Scott Fitzgerald and I probably had a bit of a romanticized idea of the hard drinking artist who understood humanity so well he was destined to forever be alone…and when I read the part of the book with the two of them I had this realization that they were both just annoying dicks. Fitzgerald was a dick because hemmingway wrote him that way and hemmingway was a dick for writing him that way. It was wonderful, a little piece of my youth was lost forever and I moved onto my mid twenties and Cormac McCarthy In all seriousness though they are both beautiful writers, for whom the bell tolls is also my favorite. I’m also a history nerd and in Tender is the Night Fitzgerald writes one of his characters describing WW1 and In like 2 paragraphs he explains it better than most 800pg books by historians

I agree about a moveable feast..there was something a little weird about that book that stuck with me in a good way….I wouldn’t have been able to articulate this at the time but thinking about it now I believe it was the fact that I was very much into Hemingway and F Scott Fitzgerald and I probably had a bit of a romanticized idea of the hard drinking artist who understood humanity so well he was destined to forever be alone…and when I read the part of the book with the two of them I had this realization that they were both just annoying dicks. Fitzgerald was a dick because hemmingway wrote him that way and hemmingway was a dick for writing him that way. It was wonderful, a little piece of my youth was lost forever and I moved onto my mid twenties and Cormac McCarthy
In all seriousness though they are both beautiful writers, for whom the bell tolls is also my favorite.
I’m also a history nerd and in Tender is the Night Fitzgerald writes one of his characters describing WW1 and In like 2 paragraphs he explains it better than most 800pg books by historians

The reason these people are smug is because the USA government, and the problems they face could have easily been solved decades ago if we had a functioning government. Before you vote libertarian, one of the things you need to realize is that the Democrats raise money from large corporations who want low cost labor for lots of immigrants, and the Republicans raise money from voters who see what a shttshow the border is. They are both abusing americans for money. They will never fix the border. Voting Republican or Democrat is voting for which party you want to abuse you for 4 years. a real S&M deal is the american democracy
