A while back I acted in person and publicly like a huge jerk to a guy working on the ferry I take where I live here on Ometepe Island in Nicaragua. I was very hot and tired but I was very mean. Next day I went to the ferry and very publicly and humbly apologized. We fist bumped and laughed about it and agreed to be friends.

Yeah, he didn't get two years. He spent 2 years in jail yes, while awaiting trial, but the charges were eventually dropped. Which also means he's not on the sex offender registry.

They had a warrant for arrest, not entry of the residence (hotel rooms count like your home when you're legally occupying them - they can't just pull you out, they have to get you to come out, why he asked them to come out)... If the lawyers jumped on it, I don't see how that could help anyone. Gum stuff up sure, but not alter the ultimate results (here, in this situation). But.... I'm hung up on the cop entering the room like he did. Why not just wait until they stepped out and skip the constitutional violation and possible fallout?

Most people don't know their rights under the law. You're right, that a hotel room would normally constitute a place of residence under the 4th Amendment. However, the legal system doesn't take this into account. He got only 2 years for SAing his mother because of a myriad of factors. I know the factors, I _can_ articulate them when I am sober, but it it 3:24 AM as I am typing this out, and I am *_not_* sober.
The point is, the cops, while technically being in the wrong, get to get away with it cause no one knows what rights they have.
Side Note: The only way to legally lose your rights in the USA is to declare yourself a Communist. It's the one and only thing McCarthy got right.
