Tow truck driver here, just pulled my first fatality, what these men and women have to deal with on a daily basis is extraordinary work. I give credit to them and thank them for setting and cleaning up the things that we don’t have to see or clean up because of them. Stay safe, shoot first, and God bless you.

I remember when I first took the NYS trooper written exam and boy it was not a fun exam day in terms of greeting. That day, we had to file a line, admission letter in our right hand, and look straight. There were like five NYS troopers just yelling at us from the top of their lungs. Unfortunately for me, I was in the first line lol

The Trooper exam was the easiest police exam that I took.

@@JimyOfficial Yes, mostly. There were approximately 10 questions about mile marker signs. They were 10 free questions in my opinion. I found this to be very odd and generally useless in determining someone's aptitude for police work. On the uniform trooper side their job is mostly traffic oriented so maybe that is why. This was in the early 1990s so no idea what it might be like now. Municipal police exams were much more difficult than the trooper exam was.

I will say as a NYS resident, our trooper cars look the best in the country imo, can’t say I’ve seen every state’s, but it is intimidating having that big charger behind ya, if even you’re doing everything legal.
They do best state police cruisers every year. My state usually wins it. Ohio has won a couple times but it’s usually between Ohio and WV

This is perhaps the first time I've ever seen a State Trooper without having a bald head. Also speaking of, I pass Hawthorne about every day going to School, they are everywhere.

Every Senator & Congressman should be required to do a ride-along with the cops in their districts at least once a year.

Tbone 223 they hold the school more often than that but the test is only offered every 4 years, then within that 4 years they choose from people from the last test for the academy

Black Bear Gear Yeah I believe so, I know years ago when my brother took it there was like 30,000 people taking the test so if you fail you’re out until the next. But most guys score pretty high.

I decided to stop with the process due to the fact that I don’t want to move upstate. I lived in NYC most of my life & currently on LI. After the academy I’d most likely be placed upstate somewhere away from my family. According to all the Troopers I spoke with, it would most likely take years to be transferred back.
I wish all officer was like him.
upstate - funny! NY is a huge state, and Hawthorn is barely 30 min drive north of NYC.

You should do a ride along with NYC Highway Patrol go out early on a Sunday morning on the belt parkway you’ll see people doing 100 plus all morning long it’s insane.

NYPD certainly does have a Highway Patrol unit. Their jurisdiction is New York City.

Hi Brandon! Yes, anyone can apply for a trooper ride along. They do a quick background check and if it comes back clean, you’re good to go.
Every agency has their own guidelines when it comes to a patrol ride alongs

Not usually, NYSP work alone except between midnight and 5AM and some special details where the risk is higher than normal. The trooper who got in the back seat was the public information officer (PIO) who spoke later in this video.

The purple color on NYS Troopers is taken from the Roman Centurion Guards who also wore Purple. They were considered the Roman Empire's Elite Guards. Hence NYS is known as the EMPIRE State and the State Police motto is NYS ELITE dept.

You can't beat a Texas DPS Trooper.......they are the best with the best uniforms and courtesy!
Texas DPS are lame compared to NYSP. Texas DPS also wear those silly cowboy hats that don't look professional at all. NYS Troopers wear stetsons which look a lot more professional. Additionally, every element of NYSP's uniform is due to some historical significance. For example, the NYSP wear hats with a purple band, as well as a purple tie. This is supposed to portray them as an "elite unit" or "the best of the best" as the Roman Praetorian Guard also wore Purple to show they were the elite. The black stripe on the pants also portrays impartiality.
