bigwhopper6501 There were really no boss fights at all... unless you count the tank fights as boss fights. I am really disappointed in that, but overall I'd give the game a solid 9 out of 10 on the PS4 version. They did an awesome job, but I feel their lack of boss fights is a negative departure from the series.

***** I could see that, especially if you don't like the Batmobile and/or tank fights... I'd probably sit the game around 6 if I didn't like those. IDK, no one really talks about it, but the fighting seems off to me? Maybe it's just me... and stealth is almost preferred, perhaps even required much of the time.
Another positive aspect IMO, which I don't recall anyone talking about is the destructibility in the game... seems pretty darn good to me, makes me wonder why no one mentions it.

In MY opinion, there was just TOO much Batmobile battles towards the end of the game (the cloudburst tank fight, then the drill), I feel Joker once again stole the show was the star villian, and my major gripe was the concept of the Arkham Knight himself. Why not just say it was the Red Hood from the beginning? It was so obvious (especially with the flash-back, various dialogue, and Red Hood story-pack) and they didn't even bother to alter Troy Baker's voice that well. It's still a great game I just prefer Arkham City...However the Henry Adams reveal...I'll give you that Rocksteady

They changed red hood's name because they had to have "arkham" in the title. That's what attracts the masses who played arkham city but don't read comics.

Was hoping that Arkham Knight was maybe Talia's son that came back to take out Batman because he blames him for her death.... Maybe even being Bruce's son as well the he didn't know about.

    1. Arkham Asylum
    2. Arkham Knight
    3. Arkham City
    4. Arkham Origins
If they didn't have so many tank sections that get very boring very quickly, and better boss battles Knight would have probably edged out Asylum. The world is beautiful and dense, the combat and predator sections have never been tighter, the story is incredibly well written, it is a love letter to Batman fans. The only minor issues I had with the story was that they dropped too many hints about the Arkham Knight's identity, and the resolution between Bruce and Selina seemed forced and unresolved.

*REVIEW/ OPEN DISSCUSSION FOR THOSE INTERESTED*
Before I give my thoughts, I just want to make it clear that I LOVE this game and series. I'm a huge Batman fan (comics, films, games, etc.) And I'm only gonna focus on story. Gameplay was phenominal. Combat is better than ever and navigating through Gotham is 100% perfect with the better grappling. I don't hate the batmobile like most. I LOVE driving but the tank fighting was sometimes forced and got annoying. Ok now with that out of the way, let's continue:
MAIN STORY: What I liked- I really enjoyed the story. I loved several parts and was left disappointed by others.
JOKER- First off, I really loved Joker's role in the story. I predicted that Bats would get exposed to the fear toxin and see Joker once or twice but never would've thought he'd be in the whole story. In many ways, this serves as a good Joker story almost as much as a good Batman story. Batman basically becoming Joker was great. All the callbacks to Asylum and City were awesome! The fact that Rocksteady managed to keep Joker's larger role a secret and even Mark Hamill out of the marketing is an achievement.
SCARECROW- Second, Scarecrow was fantastic! By far the best depiction of the character. He was creepy, raised the stakes, and his voice was spot on.
FLASHBACKS- Probably my favorite part of the story are the flashbacks. The flashbacks were love letters to die-hard fans like myself. Actually getting to watch the scene from The Killing Joke rather than read it left me speechless. Jason's torture scenes were insanely creepy and well done; they gave me chills.
Ok now lets move on to the story aspects I didn't like.
    LACK OF BAT-FAMILY:
While this is the first time the majority of the family is in the game and not just challenge maps, I was left disappointed because they weren't that intregal to the story. For the most part, Nightwing was just a side mission. He could care less about Arkham Knight or Helping to find Barbara. Tim was in the main story for a small segment but a tad more than Nightwing at least. Barbara was in it the most so I can't complain about her. However, seeing the "All Who Follow You" trailer with that one shot of Bruce, Dick, and Tim together led me to believe they were key parts in the story \:
    ARKHAM KNIGHT IDENTITY: MIXED
I'm not a fan of Jason being the Arkham Knight mainly because there was no surprise. Arkham City's ending was shocking because no one thought Joker would die. But with Arkham Knight, I knew it was Jason even before he opened his mouth. Rocksteady didn't even try throwing in other possible suspects to keep you guessing. I also, like Greg, recognized Troy right away as AK so as soon as Jason spoke, I knew -.- The boss fight also kinda sucked. There weren't really any boss fights (how they handled Deathstroke is a fucking travesty). However, what I liked was that Joker kept Jason in Arkham for over a year. That's such a terrifying thought, just thinking of the things he must've done is beyond scary. I wish we knew how Jason managed to escape... I also wish we saw what happened after Jason saved Batman. lol did Bruce really just walk out? Obviously not. And there's no point for Jason to become Red Hood since he only took that persona to spite Bruce for not killing Joker.. Too many unanswered questions
OVERALL- I do love the game. Some key parts were predictable but the ones that weren't truly stand out. I like the Knightfall Proticol even though it was predictable for the most part. I hate that we had to do side missions to get the ending. And I hate when games have endings that are up for interpretation and not definitive. The game, for me, is like an 8.5/9 out of 10. Arkham City left a better lasting impression...

I'm not a comic book fan but I do love these games and the batman films. I pretty much agree with you on the story stuff, like it seemed a little weird to have some of these big characters stuck to side missions. Also I was a little disappointed that the side missions didn't actually have their own narrative. Having said that, I kind like that batman is handling everything mostly by himself as this is his last hurrah. With Jason tod stuff, I figured it out before so by the time I got to the reveal I was like 'Yeah cool whatever let's move in'. Ultimately, what I loved most about the story was the amount of times it surprised me, from joker, oracles fake death, the release of the cloud burst and way more. Plus I agree the combat and stealth are the most robust in this game, absolutely phenomenal.

SanaySK Some of the rioters in the streets also mention metahumans, I've heard one talk about Black Canary, and then there are the numerous Superman/Lex Luthor mentions in the game.

A reason why you need 100% to get the true ending is that the scene with Batman and Catwoman at the end of Riddler's Revenge after getting all 243 riddles solved and beating the Riddler is a crucial piece of dialogue that is IMO needed to comprehend what the vague and ambiguous epilogue scene really means. Batman talks about the need for a new "myth" to be his successor. That's why he "kills himself" in Wayne Manor leaving everyone to think Bruce Wayne AKA Batman died and then he "rises from the ashes" as he mentioned to Catwoman too, as a legend and is once again a masked vigilante that spikes fear in his opponents and has no one close to him as a weakness.

I have been really busy, so I finally finished the game. I mostly agree. The story was phenominal. My only wish was that more villains were integrated into the in story, but that is offset by the fact that a majority of the side missions were phenomenally and actually felt like an organic part of the story itself, unlike how it was in Arkham City where most were good but felt separate from the momentum of the main story. The Riddle trophies were a grind as usual, but I found myself actually enjoying far more of the puzzles than I did in previous games. They were well done. Some were ridiculously hard that I couldn't do them at all, but then you realize later down the line that buying that one upgrade makes all the difference in the world and it all makes sense and it goes from frustratingly annoying to clever and fun. The voice acting from everyone was top notch as usual. The Batmkbile was mostly awesome. I actually enjoyed the tank fights. They did show up a few too many times. To offset this, I found it beneficial to just avoid using the Batmkbile for a while and just glide around the city, enjoy the view, and tackle the characters focused side missions like Prof. Pyg, Two-Face, Penguin, and whatnot. The racing was the best. Loved flying through the streets. It was tricky to maneuver at first but once you feel it out the car ours like a kitten and just driving around turns into a feat of brilliant gameplay. The only thing I completely loathed about the Batmobile were the tank stealth sections. It was fun at first, but after a while it was just a pain and outright ridiculous. I died so much in those fights. I found that using the underground tunnels to drive around made the Arkham Knight tank fight to be much easier. Just lead him down there, shoot him when you get behind him, and then drive straight as fast as you can until he stops chasing you. It definitely bears trying to swerve and fail when the missiles hit you. I got pissed during those stealth tank fights but it made it so satisfying to finish it. Suffice it to say I refuse to get the platinum for this is game (I don't care about those much anyway, I like to have a reason to come back and platinum trophies remove incentive to return once I get them). I tried two different tank stealth challenges and each time I tried both of them I failed in less than 5 minutes. I despise them. I will do and enjoy everything else, but I refuse to do the tank stealth challenges. They made up for the first two Arkham Knight fights with the great fin i just won't do them. They redeemed the Arkham Knight tank fights with the awesome final stealth confrontation that had all that drama and character moments for Bruce and Jason, but Deathstroke was the only completely wasted opportunity. It could have literally been anybody commanding that army. In Rocksteady's defense for the Jason Todd is the Arkham Knight thing, they did set it up very well and they it's only not a surprise if you are really familiar with Batman lore from the comics. A number of people who will end ul playing this game probably won't have read A Death In the Family. I'd have a problem with it if the setup and the payoff wasn't so well done, but it really was done well and delivered some phenominal story beats. I had more emotional freak out with this game than any of the previous ones. I can probably think of multiple occasions when I yelled at my TV in either excitement or disbelief. My only other complaint which is very minimal is that I still don't love the costume for Batman. There's too much going on. The first costume, and even the Arkham Origins costume worked so well because it was simple, and it translated a comic book like what we would see off the pages of a comic book but translated it completely believably. It looked too "Iron-man-y" for my taste. It looked cool, but there was too much going on to look at there. Less is more. All in all, I absolutely love this game. It didn't do everything completely right and a few comparatively small parts could have been omitted entirely, but an overwhelming majority of the game that was good was just that freaking awesome it completely makes up for its faults.

Greg, on the riddler challenge you're on, you don't have to get the question mark dots precisely in the crosshair. As long as it's in the outer circle batman will still hit the target. So you can just spam the trigger in their general directions when they give you the multiple targets to hit. Hope that helps (if you even see this message that is.) Peace.

So this is a late response to Gregs question of how Arkham Knight got an army this massive. The answer lies early in the game where you're saving the Ace Chemicals workers. Once you've reached inside to save the last one left, the soldiers converse on where did Arkham Knight get the army. One of them said that it was the rest of the villains that trust funded him and Scarecrow to finish Batman once and for all. Didn't think this something to glance over but it looks like they missed it somehow.

Just finished the game. It's easily the best in the franchise and one of the best games of the year so far.
    Only cons:
    - ace chemical batmobile puzzle
    - amount of riddler puzzles and trophies
    - riddler puzzle where you need to eject out of batmobile and glide around the room and land on a button on the wall.
    - batmobile stealth (although, this gets fun when you learn how to beat it efficiently)
    - puzzle using the batmobile to lower the gigantic fan (it's just kind of tedious but not entirely joyless)
Everything else in the game is pretty much perfect.... Even the tank combat, which is simple, fun and addictive.

I didn't mind the tank at all- actually had a lot of fun with it, the delineated enemy fire let you skirt past ridiculous artillery by mere inches for entire fights and felt pretty much godlike- but when the Deathstroke fight turned out to be a tank fight I was beyond disappointed. I mean, they even have him leap out once you've defeated him, ready for a brawl, only to get punked by Bats in a single shot. It was... not the best.

I really didn't like Arkham Knight. I found the story predictable as hell. Babs not being dead was sooo obvious it was insulting. Then the Arkham Knight foreshadowing was like being spoon fed. The side missions were b line at best, that mostly use villians from the previous games, in boring missions. The Batmobile as an A to B transport is cool, but the tank stuff is unfun, and the last story mission where you take on 60 tanks was ridiculous. The combat was also way too easy and broken up by the prolonged Batmobile sequences. Overall Arkham Knight is the most mediocre game I've played in years. I wish I hadn't spent my money on it. Rocksteady have fallen far since Asylum. :(

Drake Jensen I can see your point of view, and share many of the same feelings but I still really enjoyed the game... however the lack of actual boss fights and the over reliance (read used as a crutch for no boss fights) tank sequences does put this game below all the others in my book... even Origins (which I personally love to pieces).
The writing was all over the place for me... at times I found it acceptable and at others just dumb. This game needed another year IMO for proper boss fights and the fighting needed some polish... it felt too easy to me (generally) and somewhat broken.
I can't believe they didn't put in a proper Batcave? Hell even Lego Batman 2 had a Batcave. :/

Drake Jensen They EXHAUSTED the batmobile tank mode. It went from enjoyable to "ugh, this sh** AGAIN!" lol My breaking point was around the time the b tank had to take down the cloud burst. Sometimes less is more.

My issue with the combat is that in NG+, the Arkham Knight combat is too busy to be able to see what’s happening, in Arkham City, even the fight in Penguin’s initiation wasn’t too bad, but without the counter indicators the combat is really hard to read.

I actually thought that Ras Ah'gul was the arkham knight since he may blame Batman for Talia's death, was working with Hugo Strange in Arkham City so he has a connection to arkham there, and trained the Batman, hence knowing the Batman's moves. I was a bit dissapointed with who he was, but the story afterwards still redeemed the story for me. This game is so f'ing good though.

The story in this game was great. i feel like people dont actually talk about the complete story and instead focus on the gameplay and the arkham knight itself, but rarely discuss how well realized and true to their comic book versions this characters are. This story, from Asylum to Knight, is one of my all time favorite Batman stories.

    So many disappointing moments.
All villain fights especially the Deathstroke Fight.
    Hush.
    Lack of Villains.
So much more could of been thrown into the series' biggest free roam, and there really was nothing.
Too much Batmobile is one of the reasons I'm put off replaying, it's so boring.
In terms of content and storytelling it's the worst one!

I've come across a strange bug/glitch/design flaw that breaks the end of the game.
I completed all the side missions with the exception of the Riddler collectathon before finishing the main story and because I did them before the main story I can't get the prompt to activate the first part of knightfall unless I 100% the Riddler trophies and unlock the 2nd, so no ending at all for me :(

I literally, just finished the game. I never had the frame rate issues they talked about. My game froze about a half-dozen times. I loved it, I loved the story, I love the additions to the combat, everything was great except the Batmobile. I agree with what both Greg and Nick said, I loved the Batmobile combat at first but it's overused way too much, to the point were it replaces boss battles and simply just being Batman. Reducing the amount of Batmobile Tank combat and replacing it with regular Batman stuff or a boss battle as Batman without the Batmobile would've been a huge improvement. I also agree with Greg that Jason Todd as the Arkham Knight was a disappointment, I originally thought it might have been Hush or maybe someone from the Court of Owls but as soon as I saw the flashbacks, and the Hush side mission I knew it was Jason. It was predictable and disappointing however it was well done. The voice cast was amazing as always, Mark Hamill is always a treat, wasn't expecting him to voice the Joker again after he said he retired the role after Arkham City, Conroy is the definitive Batman and the rest of the cast Baker, Strong, Banks, North Porter just to name some were all great. Joker stole the show again. Ultimately I loved it, it was the natural evolution of City and they got most of it right, any Batman fan should play it. Should be noted I played it on PC at a resolution of 800x600 just to get a decent frame rate because the port was awful but I didn't want that to stop me from experiencing the game and I loved it regardless.

The knightfall protocol ending was too ambiguous and strange for my liking. I wish that they would've incorporated Nightwing, Robin, Jason and maybe Azrael and show that Batman has left his city in the hands of trusted allies. That would've been a much more compelling and emotionally gratifying ending.

there were definitely some good batmobile moments in game (that made you go this is why the batmobile is awesome and why when you think of any other superhero's ride they pale in comparison), they were overshadowed because the tank missions felt lackluster.

a little late to the party, but, I thought I'd share my thoughts now I have got the full ending of the game.
Yes there were too many tank battles, but the real flaw in this game is that I had to spend about 12 - 15 hours after I had finished the story trying to get all of the Riddler trophies.
I became bored of wandering around looking for green guys to interrogate to get the last 20 or 30 trophies.
Once I had finished it I was so fed up with the game I took it to a shop and traded it in as I couldn't ever imagine myself wanting to play the thing again.
Which is sad, because in terms of story and gameplay mechanics this was right up there with the best of them

Batman is the most adaptive hero in history. He anticipates everything so I don't understand how the tank battles can be "not batman like". Batman would do what ever he has to do to get the job done short of killing.
