    These swords were made in India and sold as souvenirs for tourists in a few european countries. As you noticed they were cheaply made, with softer.metal blades that were never hardened or really sharpened. The "blades" had an ornate design stamped on them, but the stamping was typically shallow and did not survive rust or wear. The blades were chromed to keep rust away.
    I think your restauration made the sword look better than than was originally. I wonder if the blade could be hardened and sharpened for use.....

      Used to have one of those tourist things as a kid. Bought it in Spain, I think.
      Build quality was utter rubbish.
      You turned it into a nice looking wall hanger.

      Spot on, my dad brought two new in the 1980's, came with red velvet covered scabbards. The tang is so thin one hit and the blade would bend 😂

      Ahh if it can be hardened/tempered if it isn’t already it would be a fine functional blade. It has a full-tang at least

    I also own a souvenir sword very similar to this. I believe mine is adorned with a lion hilt, it's old but we have no idea how old. Thinking that during my oldest brother's travels across many countries he picked it up and sent it to my Dad possibly before I was even born.

    Sword 🗡 is very cool.
    We call the name “Red Eye Ball”. That’s honor that you created red Diamond on horse’s eye.
    I’m sure India 🇮🇳 people really love your work. Maybe, Indians offer you to work on swords. That’s business.
    It’s up to you! I’ll see you next amazing tools, knives, locks and et cetera.

    It looks like an Indian imitation of a British military sabre for the benefit of tourists. You've got it into about as good a condition as was ever likely; it'll be fine on somebody's wall, but not a serious weapon for use or for proper military dress. Well done. Decent restoration.

    I have one of those somewhere they weren't old swords, they were cheaply made for the tourist market. You probably spent more time restoring this sword than it did to make a 1000 of them in India lol Nice job though.

    I have one on the desk in front of me at this moment; that I bought at the local Community Aid Abroad shop in Australia in the 70s for $5. The design is actually lightly etched into thin chrome plating which is why it didn't last. It has "made in India" on the ricasso in English on one side, and in Sanskrit on the other. Heavy, unwieldy, unbalanced , very cheap and poor quality. Might be OK for cutting carrots or just scaring an intruder with ! That wire wheel is much too harsh for "restoring" anything !

  • @teacheme
    @teacheme Год назад +1

    Nice job rescuing this sword but, the fact remains that it's a piece of tourist junk, poorly made and only good for hanging on a wall to be looked at, which after your restoration is where it should go. Still I admire the work you put into it.
