- I restore a 1950's Casino Card Shuffler. I wonder through all the rust how much black jack did this antique restoration play?

I love restoring vintage odds and ends. What antique do you want to see Restored?
#lostandrestored
Everyone in my family's circle of friends (all avid bridge players) had one of these. As a very young kid, I was in awe of this simple mechanical device and lulled by the clean whirring sound it made shuffling with an almost precise even-handedness. Thanks for sharing.
Interesting contraption. Would have liked to see the paint applied smoothly and the wood restored properly, but gets the job done.
Two months ago I bought one of those battery powered card shufflers for my mother-in-law who has arteritis in her hands, making it difficult to shuffle the playing cards. Upon receiving the shuffler, I could never get it to shuffle reliably, even after taking it apart, going through the mechanism, and looking at RUclips videos for maintenance tips.
Giving up on it, I decided to buy something american made from the past and restore it. Researching eBay, I found one of these Nestor Johnson shufflers made in the late 1940's, which is about 5 years older than the one pictured in this video. My assumption was, since these have been around for 50 - 70 years, are made entirely from metal and wood, and still in one piece, the shuffler should work fine for many more years with some reconditioning. After completely disassembling, cleaning, and oiling, the reconditioned shuffler works like new.
While researching these shufflers, I noticed some cost cutting measures were implemented over the years. The one I have has nickled plated screws, "wings", and the crank wheel. Only 1 rubber roller (2.25" long) is used per shaft and the large gear is pressed onto the crank wheel. Later models used a nylon combination crank wheel and gear, with painted "wings".
Top Marks again . My daughter thought that this would be great to hold recipie note cards in our kitchen. She is 13 and loves this channel.
A good way to choose a meal at random! I can see your daughter's a future chef-mechanic in the making. 😁
I love these intricate restorations. So good to watch. Really good job, love how it turned out!
Great job! I was hoping to see powder coating, but it looks good!
I need to build a powder coat oven. My wife would hate me if I used the kitchen oven.
@@lostandrestored
Well, well... And so, why your wife's gonna hating you if *you're using the kitchen oven for powder coating* right 😗?
You find fixing dings and dents satisfying, and I find watching you fix dings and dents satisfying. 🙂 Thumbs up.
First video I've seen from this video and as soon as I saw the great value rainbow sherbet bucket I knew I was watching a creator of taste and excellent work.
I enjoyed the video. However, the paint didn’t turn out well in my opinion. Could have used a nice primer followed by wet sanding and a good powder coating. Otherwise good. Thanks for the video.
What an awesome job you did restoring the card shuffler. It looks much better than before and it works like a charm as well. Great work.
Lovely restoration. Great work, as usual. Just wondering why you didn't use primer before painting. Btw, I loved that green tone better, too.
Best asmr channel that doesn’t advertise as asmr
I love work, I could watch it for hours.
Bravo! Thank you
Thank you for sharing this. I was unaware such things existed. So not only do your tapes teach restoration skills, but increase our general knowledge too. First class job to !
Beautiful restoration mister well done
Still got it! Keep the great videos coming!
I don't like how that paint looks when it's applied with a brush. It seems as if I applied too much. That paint exists in spray format and it looks much better
Nice Restoration.....Better Poker Hand!
enjoy watching your video..i really like tje outcome of your project...
This is the first time I've seen someone work on this type of device, interesting.
Great work.
Nailed it!
Nice
Great job
Man, I'm enjoying watching you, you're amazing, thanks man, I couldn't quite figure out what this tool is.
That card shuffler belonged to the Great Captain Zeep and his band of unruly bum-sniffers. Return it at once! Now who are you people and where is my horse?
Класс 👍👍👍
7:52 what was the original color I wonder 🤔
Классная работа!
Very cool resto. I think it would shuffled better if had used a deck of Bicycle Standard deck of cards rather than those cheap bottom of the barrel Maverick Cards.
there is alot more things 😊😊 that I seen now the more I see the more the more I like 😊❤ it's cool and neat and alot of it I didn't see when I was a kid growing up all those years ago I more than like it myself it's cool 😎 😊🎉❤😊😊 OMG 9 28 2O23
👌♠♥♦♣🤞 Awesome job! Thanks for saving its life for a little while longer.
nice video
Like! well done! thanks
Next time look at rusteloum hammerite green colors it's gives a Awesome texture old style finish
I like the restore but i just don't like the paint. I would have gone with powder coat mint green something thin so you can see all makers marks etc. still great job
Nice restoration but the paint job could of been better 9/10
great work on this shuffler, but the paint job isn't the best, it would have looked a lot better if you had sprayed the paint on, sure you would have had to use thinners and done a few coats to get it fully covered, but there would not be any brush marks left on it and it would look like it had just rolled off the production conveyor. Other than the paint job though, this thing looks fabulous. I noticed you need a new bench grinder, it was really bogging down with only light resistance from the plates you were wire wheeling. You should have to put almost your entire bodyweight into it before it should bog down like that.
It looks good, but why paint it with a paint brush?
Did he throw the screws into an instant pot with water?
Can you turn it into something useful like a cheese slicer
🖤❤️
Back in the day, there was typewriter plumping fluid. It brought the "fatness" back to the platen which became beaten down with use. I only heard of it a couple of times, but don't recall seeing it used. I think it smelled horrible. These days you can probably buy new rubber wheels online, were it not for Plastidip.
Cold blueing does nothing as far as rust protection goes. Got blueing does. The oil bath is the short term protection.
Bem feito a restauração
Mas a peça pra mim, é sem relevância
Great job! What are the plastic plugs you use for the holes when painting? I could use some of them!
I think those are called "masking plugs", if you're looking for some.
@@suitov Thanks!
Egghhggghummmm. Can we please do a lead check on the old paint?? Thank you
The handle of the vise wound not continue to hit the workbench if you turned it around so it hangs over the edge of the bench.
But if I did that, everything I work on would be out of frame and you wouldn't be able to see it. My space is too small. So I get the shot so everyone can enjoy.
Sheesh dude, don't you know how magic works?👀👀
@@lostandrestored 👍🏻
@@lostandrestored
Nice joke, but the shot has nothing to do with it [you're using two hands above -- and since you have no hand below , and that might not even help ] because everything you knock out would be falling on the floor , and bouncing off of that vise worm gear in the middle bouncing this way or that].
Nice joke though lol
[[So, it's better the way you have it ]]
@@leehunter1967
That's what he should have said.
Ya can't have small screws smacking the floor and bouncing all over [and maybe even under the bench].
Ya don't need a wanted screw flying back there.
Better the way he has it [I'll have to keep that in mind] lol.
👍😂😎☕️
...ANTE UP, IT'S YOUR DEAL....LOL..GOOD ONE...

paint...why?
That’s sooooo random
도색의 품질이 떨어집니다, 분명 함마톤같지 않다😢
Why are you calling it a "casino" card shuffler????? Nice that you can fix it but too bad you don't know it was a common item. Even my great grandmother had one. She was an avid canasta player
C’est bien de restaurer, mais là la mise en peinture le résultat est horrible !
Покраска и реставрация ручек, жесть колхоз полнейший...не мог нормально краску нанести и ручки пошкурить....идиотизм
rust.
That was one serious throwback, the battery powered ones have been around for years now and to find an old hand cranked model is truly unique. Thanks for sharing. 😁👍🇺🇸
Incredible! He managed to take a Jack of spades and create a vise AND a floor jack.

Hahah you're right😂😂
I truly enjoy restorations of all kinds thank you ! Never seen a shuffler like that .
Powder coating would have really pushed this one over the top.
Slightly different model than the one I restored, interesting to see the changes. Nice job! 🙂
Beautiful restoration on this old rusty card shuffler. Your work is always perfect. I love watching you work your magic with your hands.
I never seen anything like this before your video. Thanks very much for sharing.
I'll be looking forward to your next one.
Take care and stay safe and healthy
Came out awesome as always. Great video. You are extremely talented. (that's what she said) got it first Geeat channel.
So, my wife and I are by no means experts, but we watch at least one restoration video a night before bed. It's out little tradition lol.
Manufacturers stopped using lead in paint in 1978, so for your own health, I would caution you to check something made in the 1950s, because that stuff is no joke if it gets in your lungs, and paint dust, even in a sand blasting cabinet, can hang around forever!
Hammerite is an awful paint and when applied with brush it looks even more disgusting. But the rest of the job was great, just some scratches on polished parts...
I have a 1985 1cent gum ball machine that needs attention if it's possible can you restore it or can you tell me what steps I need to take for that to happen. I love your channel and what you do to restore things from the past. Please let me know.
That painted-on finish is terrible. You would have been better off spraying those pieces.
Parabéns lindo trabalho sou do Brasil
Is there such a thing as too many treats?
👏
What a great item! I've never seen one. That's a nice old school retro color green. This restoration looks great! ♣♥♠♦Deal me in, I'm hiding 2 jokers! 🃏😄🃏

Strange how the wood parts are heat scorched, while the rest of the item has mostly corrosion.
How unusual...
Nice little restoration.keep doing your thing.👍👍👍😎😎😎
Excellent video - as most of yours are. It was interesting and entertaining. 10/10
What a very cool project 👍 brilliant job.
What are you going to do with the other cards that was in it
Beautiful Restoration👍👍
Very cool object, well done.😊
Excelente trabalho. 👏👏👏👏🇧🇷
Love the color choice.
excellent

I love that there are people like you in the world. You have the skill and the inclination and you restore and make whole again. 🤟
*Focuses in on gallon sized Walmart brand Rainbow Sherbet that my local Wally World don’t carry
Well I’ll be MU+#@FU€KED 😫😣😭 As much as I love sherbet?!? This is a crime and an unforgivable travesty! 😆😂😄🤣
Oh and also…great job! This restoration came out amazing…as per your usual 🤩😃👍🏻
WOW!!!
I’m sure Gamblers are so crazy about you. But we’re not addict to gambling in any casinos, hopefully.
You’re so amazin’ job!!! I think card dealers are willingly to speak to you about card shuffler.
Best Card shuffle maker!
