In a world clogged with unreflective, poor designs your work stands out! It's amazing how you take into consideration the entire lifecycle, from printing, scaling, customizing, finishing, and assembling. It really sets you apart.
Thanks so much! That said, I could easily spend an extra month improving each and every design!
I discovered you through the video from Zach Freedman. I’ve already fallen in love with the channel. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for sticking around! More videos are on the way.
Same here you make some dope shit son
Same!
Your work is underrated, you should have more of a following. thanks for all your hard work.
Keep up the great work, really love your videos and projects!
Thanks so much!
9K Subs. OMG. You a Rock Star. Handy Trick: Add a Heat Gun to your Workshop. Set it around 200 (or "LOW", if it's a cheaper hobby gun). Short passes over the stringy part, and they will shrivel up and (Mostly) disappear. (Depending on how bad) Lower print temps, also tend to resolve stringing.
I suspect you noticed the TPU strap! To be honest, I didn't even see the strings until I was editing the video!
Good recommendation, especially if printing in something as stringy as TPU!
RUclips led me to you but I did see Zack as well. You both are MARVELOUS! Thank you...thank you...thank you...
Thank YOU :)
Immediately subbed after finding you from Zack. Super cool work and quality videos. Keep it up
Glad to have you on board!
many thanks ❤
Welcome! I'm glad people have helped make these designs better with great suggestions!
Way to go 3D Printy! I'm glad your new channel got the much deserved attention. I'm not familiar with this Zach guy lol but I guess I gotta share your with all your new subs now haha.
On another note. You are awesome for listening to all the viewers. I'm sure everyone is being polite but its a true virtue when you can accept critiques and small criticisms from people, let alone strangers from the internet especially on something you worked so hard on to begin with. Thank you for being you:)
You get to claim your position as an early subscriber :)
Thanks! Constructive criticism and ideas are always welcome - and fortunately the vast majority of requests and feedback I've gotten has been of the helpful variety!
I’m not sure why my comments are getting deleted but keep up the great work!
Your videos make Mondays much more bearable thank you
Thanks so much! There must be some sort of automated moderation happening, but I'm glad this comment got through!
I printed the lovely fidget and decided to explore fusion and make some modifications!
I made the peg snap fit into either side of the heart while keeping the peg diameter low so it turns freely. I after a few iterations I got it working. I'll share the modified files with you soon!
That's great! I can't wait to see your remix!
Man how do you come up with stuff like this? I want to design stuff like this! Where do I start?
Thanks! Ideas come from everywhere - childhood memories, pure mechanical exploration, or other RUclips videos. The Rolling Storage Box, for example, was my 3D printing take on a wooden rolling box by Pask Makes (ruclips.net/video/WFhK3Tff3Do/видео.html).
I recommend keeping a notebook to jot down inspiration when and wherever you find it. What you see in these videos is usually the result of multiple iterations on an idea, so don't be discouraged if your first, second, or third attempts don't work out. Often failed attempts lead me to completely new ideas!
Good luck!
Great Work! I will print a heart box but, can i glue the key instead of using a bolt?
You can, however the glue will need to be strong enough to handle some flexing when the parts are rotated together. Worst case scenario: you glue the key, it breaks off, and you reattach with a bolt. No real loss in trying!
Very good video, I like your video, thank you
Thanks!
That standard galactic counter is going to make inventory counts so much easier on your intergalactic tour.
How would I possibly get by without it?
Love your ideas and prints. Thanks for sharing!
Happy to spread the 3D printing joy!
Hey 3d Printy, when I opened the core file in Ultimaker Cura, it was holding up on its side, meaning it would need supports. When I decided to print it, I tilted the module 90 degrees, so it had more adhesion and saved me some filament. My problem was, I did both the core and the cap that way, and the treads did not fully connect screw together. I was thinking, maybe if they were on their side that would help the threads print smoother, but I wanted to ask first to see if you thought that would work better.
I assume this question is about the rolling storage box. My STLs for that project are not properly oriented (sorry, I made that design before I learned that prepositioning objects was expected).
The core should be printed with the bottom flat against the print bed and the threaded end is pointing straight up in the air. That way you can print it with zero supports!
Happy printing!
Thank You
Hey 3d Printy, I wasnt able to find the file for the version of the rolling storage box that had the special lid. It was shown dropping into your hands at 0:12. I wanted to print that version but only found the first version. And I was wondering what the file with the special lid was called
never mind, I found it.
Excellent. Happy printing!
I wish I could like your videos more than once
Thanks! Just once is more than enough!
The spring and gear update is brilliant. Well done sir.
Thanks. Happy printing!
OMG, the new Spring. Thank you Baby Jesus. I'm literally preparing to Print 2 Coffins, and almost didn't finish this video! I find the new Thicker Peg you updated at my request, works great, but, I think this is how it was meant to be. Great work, as always.
Glad you like it! I'll probably keep printing the stiffer old spring, but it's nice to have options!
What is easiest way to modify lids to add initial text.?
It depends on the 3D modeling program you're most comfortable with. I'd use Fusion 360 and open the STEP file found in the project. STEP files are generally more editable than STLs because they aren't already broken down into triangular surfaces.
Thanks for keeping all these designs up to date. Great designs just getting better! On the new spring, I was trying to keep all my files up to date with the new version for all the twist lock and gift boxes but struggling a little to find all of them (not sure if you did it yet for the gift boxes). Maybe worth it having a separate post of Thingiverse gathering all the versions of the new springs if you have time. Thanks again for your work.
Good idea! I'll upload them as a separate project and update the video description accordingly.
@@3DPrinty Thanks!! You're just awesome ;-)
Happy to help! The video description has been updated with the new links!
The intro sounds is the How it is made intro song!
I love that series!
How about a rolling storage box that's a circle with adjustable bin sizes for diffrent bin counts and an option for the bins to be squared instead
Actually this is baisicly a rolling storage box with an adjustable bin count
Parhaps you could do it in that one application that allows for diffrent modles to be crated based on settings
I'm strongly considering rebuilding this design from scratch in OpenScad, which would make it MUCH more customizable via a configuration form!
That said, there are some limits due to pure geometry. For example, a 6 sided box would result in bins with sides that overhang too far to access the contents easily and a 24 sided box would result in really thin bins or a huge central core. Outside of extreme settings, though, there could be a lot of options.
@@3DPrinty good to know
good luck with that i hope it goes well :D
@@3DPrinty parhaps a core size option could work as well as new bins that have a hinge on the top to open them if the inside is unreachable to to geometry
You are just the best, I love the new updates for example the heart boxes without magnets
Thanks! I'm glad more people will be able to print and share those boxes - the magnets I rely on for so many projects suddenly became a lot harder to find!
@@3DPrinty yeah even on Ali express they are hard to find also you wait arrount month or two to come ,keep up the good work
I found an issue with the merged spring on the vase box. It works fine on the normal latched but the extended latches the spring bottoms out before it can fully release
I've stumbled upon your channel when searching for puzzle boxes, already watched all your videos! Keep up the great work, I'm really loving it! Subscribed and waiting for the next videos 😁
Thanks so much! I've been working on my next large puzzle design for a while. I hope to be able to share that with everyone soon!
Stay awesome.
Working on it :)
I have printed 5 of your beautiful designs. Thank you. I want to upload pics of my makes. However, today I can’t find you or any of your designs by name of number on thingiverse. Are you banned from thingiverse?
Thanks for printing my designs! I don’t know for sure what happened, but all of my designs (more than 80 of them) were deleted without warning. My guess is that someone abused the reporting system to falsely claim they were offensive or stolen.
I’ve contacted Thingiverse to ask them to restore the designs, but haven’t heard back. To be honest, this is what I expected as Thingiverse is mostly on autopilot these days.
While I could spend several days reposting everything, the new posts wouldn’t have any of the old comments or prints shared by the community. There also would be zero guarantee that that designs wouldn’t just be deleted again. With that in mind, I really have no choice to to switch to using something else. All of my designs have now been copied over to both Thangs and Prusa Printers. I hope you’ll consider checking them out there.
Thanks for all the amazing ideas and projects! How easy would it be to update the counter to a non-base-10 counting system? Say, binary, or hexadecimal?
Thank you!
It depends a bit on the system you're aiming for. A base-2 system would require the inner indexing wheel to be too large to fit inside the counter. But you could fake it by using the existing indexing wheel and replacing "0123456789" with "0101010101". You'd also need to add more notches to the inside of the number wheel to roll over the indexing wheel more frequently than once per turn.
A system closer to base-10 (anywhere from base-6 to base-12) would need custom gears, but wouldn't have to repeat any numbers.
Hexadecimal, and other larger numbering systems would require larger counters.
So, to sum it all up: very possible, but not nearly as trivial as switching out a font like the Star Wars counter.
Awesome thank you! I used that enclosed keyhole design & just cut the flange on the bottom piece. Works great!
I'm glad it worked out! I didn't realize the bottom wouldn't fit until after I made my first test print of the frame.
Oh the mini lovely box is awesome, I am going to print one asap! liked the big one but I don't have the right size magnets on hand.
Excellent, happy printing! Pro tip that I failed to mention in the video - you may want to leave the key slightly loose. It helps the parts rotate more easily.
Do you think the lids on the mini lovely box would print ok upside down without support? I’d like to match the surface texture from the build plate on the outside of the lids to the bottom of the trays. Love your videos, and your models are always superb!
Thank you! The lid has 2 small overhangs, but they’re both only 45 degrees - so it should print okay either way!
@@3DPrinty awesome, thanks! Will let you know how it goes.
I found your channel a few weeks ago and have already watched through all of your videos! Your designs are awesome and have helped inspire me to get back into more intricate, thought out designing. So thank you!
Question: Do you keep a group of standard magnets/pegs/threaded inserts that you use in projects? Or do you typically buy new pieces as you need them. And do you keep a fusion directory for these little parts?
Thanks so much for watching!
I have a bunch of assorted M3 & M5 bolt kits on hand as well as lots of 3x3mm and 6x3mm magnets. So I design stuff to reuse that same hardware as much as possible. If I know I'm going to print many copies of the same design (the puzzles, for example) I'll buy those parts in bulk.
When creating a design in Fusion, I just model the holes where the hardware will go. Adding fake hardware looks cool, but just slows me down... so I skip it :)
@@3DPrinty Good to know, thanks for the advice!

Can you make the DK barrel and drums as a non-puzzle item?
Love the designs and want to give some to a couple DK loving friends some but a non puzzle version.
Definitely something I’m looking into :)
@@3DPrinty OMG Yaaay!!!! I can't wait!
Just heard about your channel and absolutely LOVE it.
I just did your giant snowman and everyone loves it. Probably one of my favourite prints!
Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
A screw-top version is now available: www.printables.com/social/106529/models Depending on your needs, you can glue on caps or leave the barrel screwed together with no lid.
