We were leaving another restaurant and stumbled upon this place while visiting Columbus years ago. We had already eaten but got a cream puff from the case to go and ate them in the car on the way out of town. My wife still talks about going back to Columbus just for a Schmidt's cream puff.
While on a business trip about a month ago and found this gem. The prices are great and the service was awesome. I had the 3 sausage platter with potato salad and saurkraut. The german section of town was wonderful . Wish I lived closer, but NJ is a bit of a commute.😃
One of these days you should come to Indian Lake and stop at Lulu's I know it's not Columbus but this year alone the ownership has earned my heart as a lifelong customer.
Last visit there was in August of 2016, didn’t get enough time to grab a decent meal in July of 2023 but it’s on my to do list next time I make it back to the States.
They use to have the best buffet. I wish they would bring it back. Some of the dishes on the buffet were not on the menu. The Hunters stew was really good.
I parked around the back of the restaurant in the farther side of the parking lot while I visited. I guess I was far enough out I could have my car broken into and all my stuff stolen. In broad daylight. I was going from point A to home because of work travel so my suitcase and travel bag were stolen. First and only time I have been broken into. At Schmidt's. I've stayed near Dublin a few more times but I keep the heck out of Columbus.
Sadly rare to find German restaurants these days, even in the heavy German immigrant states. Millennials and Gen Z seem to be disinterested in anything European except for Italian and Greek and maybe Spanish.

Great story about a successful business that cares about what they do in a community. Great interview !

I wish that there was food like this in southeast US. I absolutely love German food and there is NO German food here. Looks exciting!

Nice but this is not a food what you get in germany this is made for Americans sorry
It’s adapted for the American palate just as Italian, Greek and Chinese foods.
