THANK YOU!! I have been avoiding patterns with the stair step bind off because it kicks my ass every time! I will take on a pattern now and use this method instead. Fantastic!
Thanks so much Staci. I've left a sweater sitting for years because of that stair steppy thingmee. This sloped bind off is so simple and clear. Thank you muchly.
This is literally the video I needed. I am going to try to knit a kitty sweater for this little almost bald cat that my friend has. I think this will be PERFECT for that project. Such good timing. Thanks Staci!
Love this technique. I just finished a sweater and while seaming sure wish I had this sloped seam instead of the stair step I had done. Will definitely use on my next sweater
Great video, thanks.!! I was going to use it for my shoulder shaping, but instead i practiced it, and used short rows instead because I had already completed the back and one side of the front of my sweater, but I will definitely use it next time, it just looks even neater than a short row, I guess because it doesn't have the wraps to pick on the finishing round.
Thanks for another great video. I haven't had to use it as yet, but what a nice, easy way to deal with shaping. I'll be sure to refer back to it when the time should come.
Staci, thank you for this! I am just finishing some sleeves (cuff up...) and this choppy finish is one of my OCD pet-peeves! So timely!!!! Thank you again for all you do to make sure I am doing it right!!!!
Love your videos! Just saw in your notes you called out the color of your nail polish. Last week, while watching your video, I was wondering about what nail polish you had used :) I'll have to go back and see if that video had notes with it. Thanks so much!
+Just Dolls - thank you! Yes, I've been listing out my nail polish color for a while now, only because I was answering multiple comments and emails about it. I get it - I'm the same way! If I like a color, I'll stop a gal on the street to ask her what it is! :)
Hi, thank you so much for this brilliant tip. its so much neater.. i am just battling to keep my slip stict as neat and tensioned like yours. how do i do this? i have gone back and finished the previous cast off very tightly, but it als doesnt seem to help. By the way, your stepped cast off is also a pretty amazingly tidy finish. mine lso has lopy steps. thank you for sharing
Hi, can just say a huge thank you to you, as I have followed you for a long time and gave me the confidence to be able to knit. I totally understand this and am able to do this, however I’m finding that my cast off loops are not even on armholes and neck edge. Not sure if I’m doing something wrong. Please help.
Oh I really wish I'd know this 2 weeks ago when I was binding off the shoulders on a jumper I'm making. I am not prepared to rip back enough rows to do this with it now though.
Really nice work! And how do you determine the angle? Say I need a particular length of slope at a particular angle. How do I calculate how many stiches I need to bind off when?
Woah, Staci, SO TIMELY and what a great result! I am not sure but I think I might have recently asked you for something like this because I was facing the dreaded stair step bind off based on my pattern. I am literally AT the row I would be starting my armhole bind-offs on my sweater back, so yay for this. One very quick question: is there any advantage to starting the slip of the last stitch in the row just before the start of the armhole bindoffs, to somehow smooth the first bound off stitch upon turning the work? Thrilled for your video on this super technique!
A great technique!! Though I don't usually get stairs in decreases, but a huge jogged stitch where the stair should be :( But it's just as ungainly, and this is surely going to help with that, too? I hope so, and will try it next time ;)
Ah, I tried this but unfortunately it did not help with the huge jogged stitches... :( Don't know what would! (I do pull the yearn as tight as I can, but to no avail.)
Is it possible to work both the left leaning and right leaning slope bind off at the same time . Kinda like bonding off in the middle of your work but with this slope technique
I did this technique, but when I slip the last stitch it messed up tension and I have very loose stitches when I pass over the first one. All my other stitches are the same except the slipped one.
Thank you for this great tut! Will definitely use this technique from now on. Also one quick question, I like the blocking pad that you have there, I've been looking for one that has lines just like yours, can you tell me what is it and where I can get it? Do you have this in your shop? Thank you.
Could you make a video on how to seam on a slope? Or could you tell me what it is called? The mattress stitch did not work. I am knitting some footed baby pants done in stocking stitch and the legs on the inside seam are slanted. Thank you for any help.
Hi Staci, Just to be sure I'm understanding you: I'm knitting a baby sweater and, to shape the arm holes, I bind off 2 at the begging of a row. That slipped stitch counts as my first bind off, and I bind one more off normally? Thanks! I'll send a photo when it's done :)
I need to bind off 1 st every 2nd row for V-neck. Did one side k2tog and it slant to the right. Dont know how to create a nice left slant to match the right side.
The v neck pattern I'm working on has a skpo for the left lean. Slip first stitch, knit second and pass the first stitch over the second as if binding off and that will decrease by 1 stitch. Hope that helps.
It should create a neat left lean to match the right lean. It has on the pattern I'm just knitting. I can't help with the crocheting comparison, I only knit because I have trouble seeing crochet. I tried to learn but couldn't see where to put the hook in.
+Dianne Shaw - there isn't really much of a gap there, but you can always seam by inserting the tapestry needle so that it splits the V of the stitches, essentially closing any gaps between the Vs.
Wow!!! You have just changed my life!! I usually knit shawls--but there's now a sweater in my future. Thanks so much!!
My goodness, this was exactly what I needed for my new design. Thank you!!!
THANK YOU!! I have been avoiding patterns with the stair step bind off because it kicks my ass every time! I will take on a pattern now and use this method instead. Fantastic!
Wonderful, thank you. Wish I had learnt this years ago, but better late than never! Thanks again.
Excellent videos for a returner to knitting! Thank you from London, UK
Love, love, love this. I am knitting sleeves right now and am excited to use this technique! Thank you!
Thanks so much Staci. I've left a sweater sitting for years because of that stair steppy thingmee. This sloped bind off is so simple and clear. Thank you muchly.
This is so cool and so much easier than either the German or the Japanese short row!!! Thanks :)
THANK YOU very much for the beautiful bind off especially for shoulders!!!! It's a lovely technique LOVE IT !!!!!!!!!! XX
Great video! I love how you break everything down, step by step. TY.
You are so helpful and good at explaining what each technique does and why it is helpful.
Perfect timing! I just did the bind off for the neck of my sweater and am starting the slope. Now I know exactly how to do it!
This is literally the video I needed. I am going to try to knit a kitty sweater for this little almost bald cat that my friend has. I think this will be PERFECT for that project. Such good timing. Thanks Staci!
Great help. Your videos are always beautifully produced with just enough detail. Thank you!
Thanks a lot! Now I can finish my sweater 😊 Only one question, where can I find the video for the left side? Have a nice day!
Fantastic. So pretty! Your knitting style is so nice. Thanks so much
So simple and simply explained - thank you!
I wish I would have known this a couple months ago when I was working on a seamed sweater. Such a great technique!
STUNNING as always. Thank you so much. always love your videos.
Thank you from Malmö Sweden 🇸🇪
This is amazing! I am now going to undo two shoulder seams that I stitched last week, unpick the stepped decrease and do this.
This tutorial is what I have been looking for a very very long time. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR TEACHING 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Love this technique. I just finished a sweater and while seaming sure wish I had this sloped seam instead of the stair step I had done. Will definitely use on my next sweater
Thank you!!! For this great video. I never liked my shaping of the armholes and necklines. I can't wait to use this technique.
Wow! This is just what I needed for shaping arm holes on my vest. Thank you.

This was a game changer. I always hated the stair steps. Thank you.
Thank you, made the baby sweater 100% better!
I would always do short rows to make a nice slope, but this is soooo much easier!!! Thanks for sharing this tip!
Thank you so much! I was making a horrible mess with an armhole for a tank top. It just looked terrible until I tried this method!
I love your techniques, they're soooo helpful! Thank you so much ♡
You always release videos of techniques i always wondered about! Thank you for this tip, it's really awesome!
Staci, thank you for this! I am just finishing some sleeves (cuff up...) and this choppy finish is one of my OCD pet-peeves! So timely!!!! Thank you again for all you do to make sure I am doing it right!!!!
Thank you for this clear & easy to understand sloped bind off. Love it!
Thanks for this great tip! I just finishing binding off a sweater sleeve...now I'm going to undo the last few rows and try this instead.
As always, another great and practical technique.
Love this tutorial, but is there a way to do this sloped bind off in combination with the technique to make both armhole heights be the same level?
Staci I ALWAYS know you'll have the answers! This is such a no-brainer. WHY do patterns do those awful stair-steppy shoulders when this is an option?
I will definitely use it for sleeves and neck... thanks for the trick... always useful :)
This looks lovely. I guess you could also just work to the last stitch and turn without working it. Thanks!
This is SO helpful ! You are simply awesome ! - i'm glad i'm a subscriber!
Terrific technique, makes such a difference. Thank you!

This was wonderful. Great to know for the next sweater I am going to knit. Many thanks.
Amazing thank you so much very neat Bo
wow thank you so much for this lovely technique .
Awesome! I love learning new things from you.
Thank you! Beautiful and so much better to sew together
Oh wow! Thanks for showing this. I can't believe I didn't think of this myself. Now I feel sheepish. ;-)
wow..those nails, but always the instruction is incredible. thank you
Wonderful! Thank you so much for this great technique.
Genius, thank you!
Brilliant, thank you!
So helpful! Thank you.

I will frog back my shoulder seams and redo with a slope - much neater and easier to seam.
Excellent way to work it...thank you 🤗

Out of Holland; thank you só much! 🌷
thanks for sharing. I'll use this.

Great tutorial!
Very simple😊
That slipped stitch left me with a loose stitch so when I sewed the seams together I had a hole on both sides 😩
A great technique!! Though I don't usually get stairs in decreases, but a huge jogged stitch where the stair should be :( But it's just as ungainly, and this is surely going to help with that, too? I hope so, and will try it next time ;)

Thank you for this. My left leaning loops are fine. But my right leaning loops are not--they look stretched. How can I correct this?
I’ve sloped off to bed sarks, all I need now is for the birds to stop chirping so I can pass out. Sweet dreams don’t stay up too late 😤😤😤
I keep getting a hole below the slip stitch. How can I fix this?
Very nice,thank you!
Do you work the pattern while you bind-off or do you just knit regular stockinette stitches while doing the bind-off?
You're excellent

I don't have a shop, and unfortunately, blocking boards like mine are no longer available. Blocking mats, with a grid, are a good alternative.
Thank you, again, for your expert instruction!
God bless you
very good mam
Thankyou so much!!!

+In Tune Knitter - Yes, I think you have that right.
Is that suitable for only 1 stitch blind off?
Thanks this help.
I need to bind off 1 st every 2nd row for V-neck. Did one side k2tog and it slant to the right. Dont know how to create a nice left slant to match the right side.

@@ClairPearl does it create same pattern as the right leaning side? like crocheting the base row of chains?
It should create a neat left lean to match the right lean. It has on the pattern I'm just knitting. I can't help with the crocheting comparison, I only knit because I have trouble seeing crochet. I tried to learn but couldn't see where to put the hook in.
How do you work in the hole that results under the slipped stitch when you are seaming?
+Dianne Shaw - there isn't really much of a gap there, but you can always seam by inserting the tapestry needle so that it splits the V of the stitches, essentially closing any gaps between the Vs.
תודה על הטכניקה המדהימה והפשוטה!!!! בדיוק בזמן הנכון!!!! יש לך סרטונים יפים וברורים. תודה! תודה! תודה!
סליחה, לא יודעת לכתוב באנגלית :(
plz make video of baby sweater with pattern
Does this work for garter stitch as well?
Yes, it will work regardless of the stitch pattern in the fabric below.
Thank you so much life saver x
Neat!!

Wow thank you!
