My family and i flew the Sp in 1981 from Brisbane to LA partly on our way back to Edinburgh for holidays to see our family for the first time since we arrived at Brisbane in 1964, flight was great .
great video of a rare 747 variant. These must have been the hot-rods of the 747 series. Same engines, less weight, less drag on the wings since they don't have the underwing canoes required for the triple slatted flaps. Obsolete now because there are twins to fill this role that do it more economically. Also, the stubby appearance may look like a pointless modification of the huge 747 airframe, but it was designed and built to fill a niche and compete with the L1011 and DC-10s. From that perspective, it really shows how much smaller the DC-10 and L-1011's were than the 747 100s etc.
Range. The SP had the range to fly the Pacific. The 747-100 did not. When the 747-400 was released, it had greater range than either of the first two models..
Thought it was, seems to suffer from the same white balance issue that mine has causing a green colour cast in some sky shots. A known fault with some Panasonic camcorders, I have gave up on a firmware update from Panasonic to correct it. I use Sony Vegas to try and correct, works sort of but a bit of a pain.
