The Universal Story - 1996

- YES THE SOUND AND PICTURE SYNC IS OFF AT SOME POINT DUE TO RUclips COPYRIGHT EDITS
This was a VHS sold at Universal Studios Hollywood in the late 90s. I've also heard this was used as training material for Studio Tour Guides around that time. This features Richard Dreyfuss narrating the story of the first 80 years of the studio.
I do not own the copyright and post this for educational purposes.
RUclips has muted a couple copyrighted songs and removed a couple 1 minute scenes due to copyright.
A portion of this is out of sync, due to copyright adjustments. Unfortunately this is the only way to keep the video live and viewable.
Oh well, It was great while it lasted, like Hollywood. 💡🎥🎬⭐
"Copyright adjustments?" That doesn't make any sense. Universal made the documentary itself and all the clips from the movies were all Universal movies. If you sit through modern movies with all the credits, from cast to Best Boy, you see credits for other movies and music NOT made at the studio. When that is the case, the movie's producers give credit to the other studio or recording company for the right to use the clip.
yes quite annoying.

I loved "Showboat" 1936 and some of the off broadway shows that were filmed and these were outstanding and so wonderful to watch and listen as the music is still amazingly good and always recieved well.. thank you Jerome Kern your musicals made my life as at our community theatre perfomed about 3 shows a year another one in the summer. Plus most of us were in Drama Club in high school...wonderful times.
My father always sang it to. Now that I'm older so do I.
Love stories about the old studios. A bygone era. One that we will never see again.

Universal Studios created the most memorable movie monsters in the history of film.
those Saturdays spent at the local theater in the `50's, thought my folks really liked me til later on figuring out they wanted some time alone. But those Saturday afternoon shows always had Flash Gordon and several cartoons then if you were lucky, they had a double feature, they also showed all those old classics. those old theaters were (in small towns) like your living room....then we got a little older and wanted to sit with all the girls...for all the obvious reasons.
The 4D Man. (1959) Was it a Universal movie?
Thank you for posting this. Saw this in 1998 and I was so young I didn’t know the name of it.
💝 THANK YOU
Brought back so many great family memories.
My late husband was the night foreman for the Electrical Dept and Lou Wasserman and Edie were like sweet Grandparents to our 3 children.
This was like going back in time. May my husband rest in peace 🙏🏼GOD BLESS YOU.
And all our families 🇺🇸🌍👑✝️🕊️
Wow! Very cool! Thank you for sharing that. I’m glad you got enjoyment from this. Have you seen “The Last Mogul” documentary about Lew Wasserman?

Technically, the Universal centennial would have been with IMP's formation centennial in 2009, but they waited until 2012 when the Universal name was first used. I have a copy as well and put it to a DVD a few years back to preserve it.
This show was originally broadcast on Starz. Also available on Laserdisc, which at the time was backed by MCA/Universal.
I had to have this playing in two windows so I could link the sound/pic.
The unique creature and spectacle creating film studio is timeless to find out more about.🎯🎬🎥☀️ Stay safe everyone!
I just found my VHS of this. I was gonna rip it myself, thanks!
I love how they use the theme from the then-current opening logo as a leitmotif at different times

The score is very well written. Clever of you to notice.
Love universal studios Hollywood
Been looking all over for this! THANK YOU!😂
From 35:15 to about 38:30, the sound and the picture become unsynchronized. THE EFFECT IS HILARIOUS !!!!
I was screaming. Funnier even than that disastrous premiere in Singing in the Rain.

Thank you for posting this! Been trying to find it for years.
Timing is everything.
this was released on laserdisc as well.
This was going great until the pictures and the sound got off sync!🤔
Interesting documentary, but someone screwed up the footage with voices.
Am I the first,, perhaps only commenter to notice that the sound track and the video are way out of sync? The audio is way-y-y-y-y-y ahead of the video. Did no one catch this before posting?? Because of this I quit viewing at 1:10:00. It spoiled everything.

WTF?! It started out fine until 35 minutes in the sound and images are all messed up.
Too bad the sound doesn't match with the film 1/8 into the documentary
Sadly,Stage 28 "The Phantom Of The Opera"stage at Universal City Studios no longer exists.
Why's the picture way behind the sound?
To prevent the copyright police from taking the video down.
The OP wrote about in in the top comment.
What was the movie in the beginning of this documentary the Western I’m referring to
only first half hour is in sync after that it's Unwatchable ashame
Hey they just shown Clips from Universal Monsters Movies 🎥 but they didn’t shown 1933 Classic Monster 👹 Movie King Kong!
King Kong was owned & filmed at the R K O studio. Universal does own the rights to it now, But I guess because it's really an R K O movie they didn't include it in the Documentary.
King Kong was made by RKO. Years later Universal bought the rights and features Kong in its theme park.
Oh and They Didn’t Shown Sam Raimi’s Darkman (1990 Movie) either!
@@CubanPete1990 I'm sorry, but this is not your decision. Let the Seagram executives work it out on those things, okay?
Because we got better stuff to do this fall - so let's not wasted any more opportunities on this one.

Does "The Universal Story" have any clips from "Scarface" (1983), "Brewster's Millions" (1985), "The Money Pit" (1986), "Howard the Duck" (1986), "Harry and the Hendersons" (1987), "*Batteries Not Included" (1987), "Twins" (1988), "The Great Outdoors" (1988), "Parenthood" (1989), "Uncle Buck" (1989), "Problem Child" (1990), "Tremors" (1990), "The Little Rascals" (1994), "Casper" (1995) and "Babe" (1995)?
How about DUEL with Dennis Weaver and the truck? (1971)
@@glennso47 And “Major Payne” (1995)?
Since none of these, excepting perhaps Scarface, are in any way memorable, quick answer: No.

Completely out of synch with the sound. Lame......
Dreyfuss refers to Carl Laemmle as "Uncle Carl." Are they really related?
I'm sure it's term of endearment as a member of that era of motion picture stars.
The sound and the picture are off at around 35:15.
This is noted in the description and top pinned comment.
